Generally comedians get some leeway on these issues. Wanda Sykes (whom I love) was the first to say she was leaving the show but some of her material is worse - of course she is black so she gets a pass? What about someone like Andrew Dice Clay who was very popular maybe 30 years back - would a comedian like him get away with that nowadays? As a society are we too sensitive and take things way out of context?

Rosanne says here medicine made her do it, typical gutless dodge.

For the reasons I defend a lot things Spence. As a society, we should not go through life KneeJerking at every misstep or stupid move made by someone. Particularly by the left, you are likely to be sacrificed to some social jury mob.

The comment was stupid, it was not racist, and she should have been penalized. But not had her head on a spike in an orgy of virtue signaling.

another case of say something then try to pull it back saying it was a Joke (you wern't on stage.. ) or the free speech argument .... I can say what i want !!! which you can ... calming free speech doesn't absolve the speaker but it may comes with consequences..

what trump thinks

Donald J. Trump

@realDonaldTrump
Bob Iger of ABC called Valerie Jarrett to let her know that “ABC does not tolerate comments like those” made by Roseanne Barr. Gee, he never called President Donald J. Trump to apologize for the HORRIBLE statements made and said about me on ABC. Maybe I just didn’t get the call?

Trump is a megalomaniac, you know that. He also has a point, there's a lot of hypocrisy on this issue.

I'm sorry - I don't think every time someone is compared to a monkey, it is a racist statement. When someone does it to B or M Obama it tends to be close or go well over into racism.

VJ is of Persian heritage - all of you know that, right? You knew that before today, right? So is saying she is the offspring of a monkey is it to be looked through a lens as if she is black?

Freud would not kneeJERK a response like that, Eben. I would think you know me better than that.

JohnR 05-30-2018 03:06 PM

And a follow up - sometimes things are racist, some times they are not. I thought her comment was stupid, though not racist.

Not being a fan of Rosanne (or Jarret for that matter) I have already expended more effort on the subject than I had expected to spend.

Better be careful, Kev - you might be forced to a re-edeuction camp sometime soon too, maybe by a lake, in NC.

Comedians all say offensive stuff. But when a Trump supporter says it then its across the line... Its ok to say Trumps mom mated with an orangutan and it is just good fun, but say it to an Iranian who may have as much African blood in her as Elizabeth Waren has Native American blood and Oh my god Rossanne is a racist and must be fired... For fuks sake guys... Open your eyes to the huge double standard.

JohnR 05-30-2018 06:31 PM

So apparently both her folks were American, she was just born in Iran - not Persian.

Interesting - she does not look African American. I (incorrectly) assumed she was Persian. Changes things a little.

Wiki said she has some European heritage as well, but yes, that context is important.

I am so tired of the African American this or the any other name before American.. You are all of the HUMAN race and either your American or NOT American. No other ethnic name should go before American. All of this emphasis on ethnic back ground and naming people this sort of victim or that sort of victim is all a bunch of Bu11sh1t. It is almost like this is intentional to divide the USA .

No, I could fill the Pacific Ocean with the hypocrisy.

Roman Polanski is a famous director who was convicted in court of drugging and violently raping a child (I think a 13 year old), and he fled to Europe. Hollywood gave him a standing ovation not that long ago, long after we knew he was a child rapist.

So you tell me WDMSO, other than hypocrisy, why is a child rapist still embraced in Hollywood, but someone who calls people nasty names, isn't?

That's one example. I could go on all day. Look at the way they treated Sarah Palin, the things they said about her.

It's more acceptable to abuse conservatives, than it is to abuse liberals (and those sympathetic to liberalism). If Rosanne made fun of Sarah Sanders, there would have been zero outrage.

It's a political calculation of the left. Splinter the nation into as many groups as possible, and hope you can cobble together enough of them, to equate to 51% of the voters on election day. It is absolutely deliberate. They can't win any other way, they can only win with conflict among those groups, they want groups of victims to be mad at upper middle class honkeys. They cannot resist the urge to fan the flames of divisiveness, they depend on it. Their political survival depends on it. They are getting clobbered all across the map, they are desperate, so this is what they came up with.
