fun thread
Friday the 13th (july '01) south shore of mass... live eel... 44 1/2", 33lb 4oz.... standing on terra firma, so YES, IT COUNTS BABY!!
That was 2 years ago and I haven't sniffed 30#, let alone 40# since. In all fairness to myself, I haven't put alot of time in targeting large, but more this year. Biggest this year was a bit over 23lbs on a live herring from a boat. I'll be back over 30#, maybe 40# next season 'cause I was just figuring out that live bait thing when the live bait swam away for the year. I was on some good fish there. Of couse, those will be loser boat fish so they won't be any fun. Biggest fish on artificials was 37+" and 20lbs. on a 5" split tail ledgerunner in July off my favorite rockpile... smoke. |
All small fish. Feel guilty. The fish I brought home last night was the first fish under 30#s I have brought home in over a month. Just been lucky.

Biggest Fish
I have had several 40 lbers this year during commercial season, but from my boat. My biggest fish, actually my two biggest fish were taken on consecutive nights way back in 1990. Late October, live eel, Osterville Ma., from a jetty, outgoing tide, dusk, not a soul around. First night 52" 46 lbs. next night standing on same rock 55" 58lbs. Had it mounted and still enjoy it especially when I get home after fishing for 10 hrs. with nothing to show.

32 lbs, October 1st on a 1/2 white bucktail in the surf. My career biggest was a 38lb fish July 4th 12:00 noon 90 degree day light surf, swimmers swimming around while I fished on a clam on a Long Island Beach. After I landed that fish most sun bathers were afraid to go in the water with stuff that big swimming around.

well, no weight on her, but i got a FAT 53" last fall from the cape. that is the biggest bass i have ever witnessed! she was the third or fourth fish in the series. i always say that ANY hog i catch, if she can swim off on her own, will! and so she did. i had found a hole that was full of big bass. i landed 6 fish before i ran out of eels. the smallest was 27#'s, the rest bottomed out the 30# boga with ease. others were into some good fish that night, but i didn't see anything as big as my girl. one guy even had the nuts to call me crazy for letting her go :jump1: , but i was happy with the outcome.

42.5" 33# and change. Caught it 9/5/02 on a live eel here in Westport. Had been getting "bluefished" all night and had only 3 eels left. I decided to move away from the blues. When I hooked the eel he performed the elusive eel knot, followed by a triple lutz, after about 10 minutes of untangling I decided that he deserved to be fed to the blues. Threw him into the bluefish and caught the biggest bass of my lifetime so far.
