question-what does the boat supply for rods/reel/line? think im going to leave my stuff at home and use the boats stuff. i got regular dacron and if the boat got Pwr pro or some other super braid ill just leave my stuff at home.

fishweewee 11-16-2003 10:12 PM

Christian-

Mike has everything you need (rod reel line terminal tackle and...the boat), just bring warm clothes and dramamine and food/beverage. Cooler too for the fish.

tlapinski 11-17-2003 02:44 PM

:D

Christian 11-18-2003 05:53 PM

o ya thatll rock for cod, youll love that rod and that reel. i havent used superbraids but ive heard how much better they are than regular dacron. i got the same setup as you. you might want to cut some off the tip of that rod in the future if you want to do alot more jigging. its still works for bait after you cut it, but its really nice for jiggin cut down. :D

thanks the sacraficed storm jig, might help some. :D :laughs:

tlapinski 11-18-2003 05:57 PM

i have been told by a couple of guys that the 4/0's are not superbraid "friendly". something about there being too much of a gap between the spool and the side of the reel. i guess the line is prone to getting stuck in there. no personal experience with it though, as my 4/0 has been sitting on the "reel shelf" for over a year now. :smash:

InshoreAngler 11-18-2003 05:59 PM

Thanks for the help.

Christian, FWW is contacting Cpt. Mike to see if there is a possibility of another spot. My dad already gave me the OK. So if it turns out well, I'll get the chance to meet you Saturday....
im not putting my hopes up though, Capt. Mike has to approve and the weather has to work out.....

The weather gods will prevail! Vic, I have the same setup and the tip is too soft. Have your tackle shop cut it down to the guide after the tip and put a roller tip on, maybe 15 bucks. Use 80 lb Yo-Zuri Hybrid instead. Its a great mono line and has the diameter of 50#, its waterproof so it won't swell and Stretch so ya lose your bottom feel. Its the only setup I use for party boats. If your only going to fish on your boat go with the braid. It dosen't work on party boats cause if your fishing the Stern the Googan at the bow fishing clams with 5 oz will getcha every time :laughs: :smash:

chit! chit! chit! where do I get some? chit! chit! chit! :smash:

Pics, Toby?!!!!!!!!!!!!!

InshoreAngler 11-18-2003 08:08 PM

that roller tip helps alot? ill get an aftco one, since I hear alot about them. so your cut the tip top off and hsve them put the roller guide on, or cut the tip top and next guide off and put the roller tip on to make it a little shorter/stouter?

BTW, I tied 10 cod rigs with 2 dropper loops and Gami Octopus 5/0, barrell swivel and 3" PINK B2 SQUIDS for teasers. Do cod like these, and hwo do the rigs sound?

thanks for the help guys:D

Swede 11-18-2003 08:29 PM

Vic. put the roller where the second guide was . imho it makes it the perfect rod.! And use the yo-zuri hybriid!

InshoreAngler 11-18-2003 08:33 PM

thanks swede. ill get that tip on there soon.
but I think im gonna stick with 80# Cortland Spectron or PowerPro, since I had some bad experiences with the lighter Yo-Zuri hybrid, I think it had horrible memory.

Swede 11-18-2003 08:42 PM

It does have bad memory on a spinner, don't use it . 80# yz is GREAT on a 113 Cod reel. Trust me..Use 80 Hybrid..

tlapinski 11-19-2003 02:50 PM

ben, no pics since my camera is a piece of crap and i had a bit of an argument with it last week..... :bsod:

Vic, i have had AWESOME results with the yo-zuri hybrid! i won't use any other mono now. i put 25# on my VS200, and run 30# on my abu 7000's in the surf. the stuff is the best mono i have ever used. wonder how long it will take for them to discontinue it. :af:

InshoreAngler 11-19-2003 03:05 PM

I see.....but isnt braid the best for cod jigging?

tlapinski 11-19-2003 03:07 PM

yeah, for jigging. i was just saying that i have had great success with the hybrid. have not tried the smaller diameters. i will be spooling up my 4/0 with it for another rod i gotta build this winter.

fishweewee 11-19-2003 03:07 PM

yes, braid is better for jigging but sometimes you're not allowed to use it (some party boat skippers forbid it).

InshoreAngler 11-19-2003 03:08 PM

all the party boats I plan on going on allow braid.
does the "avemaria charters" in case I go on?
FWW, any update or nada so far?

fishweewee 11-19-2003 03:10 PM

Vic - yup, braid okay on Ave Maria.

Still waiting to hear....will let you know.

Pray for good weather.
