Thanks Slipknot,Its fun when you go fishing with good people and have some laughs, Just a little better when you catch fish, THat trip was lined up in two phone calls five minutes apart and everyone did their share of getting bait and still not holding anyone up / thats what fun fishing is all about. Fishpot, we got to find a way for you to go fishing yet stay out of the doghouse// Im thinking of a completely different way of fishing the next night out/ but that may change ,depending on the buckies////later
|
Thanks Saltheart ,,// your wecome to come anytime ,if we can pull you away from the ditch//
Only problem is I seldom make plans, I see what shape my personal life is at the time, check conditions and go// I do have to actually make plans with Fishpart to go Fluke fishing---- that may help the doghouse// later |
How about this (fish caught 5/26/01) :
|
Say this in Homer Simpson's voice - Fluuuuke
Jaiem, you dropping rocks down her belly??? :P |
That's a fat one Jaiem! :)
|
Has anyone ever seen clamdigger and Saltheart in the same place at the same time? Except for the fact that Mike is slightly larger, there's more than a passing resemblance.
Nice fish guys, all of you. Jaiem's is probably full of 5" herring, not rocks. Maybe a big hickory shad. I know what was in the water where he was fishing ;) "For the night, has a thousand eyes, and a thousand eyes, can't help but see......" Some places, when you're fishing, it doesn't do just to look left and right to see who's watching---sometimes, you have to look up, too ;) |
John, Saltheart - When I cleaned her, she had *6* fluke in her belly!!!! And some kind of small eel (conger eel maybe).
I had always heard people say bass eat flounder/fluke but this is the first time I've ever seen it and so many too. Guess I have to start taking those rubber flounder jigs more seriously. ;) I have the picture of the fluke in the bass belly too but it's kinda bloody. Let me know if you want to see it and I'll either post it or email it to you. Mike - Guess you never know who's around. Where you there at "the spot" when I took her? |
About 70' up and about 30' to your left. You were flyfishing when I saw you. I usually check the spot from up top on a weekend, to see how crowded it is. Range Rover Anthony was fly casting where I wanted to fish, I moved about a half mile farther west to catch the ebb. Substitute inches for pounds on the fish I took there.
Just don't ask where I park when I do the eyeballing---it isn't "at all" legal. ;) Just a quick peek and move. I saw a black 4-Runner in the lot, and thought it might have been yours. |
I'm not really in the doghouse so to speak, but the little ones don't want daddy sleeping when they are supposed to be playing with them :)
Fluke will go a long way to keeping me out of the doghouse... BTW miss "I don't like to eat Striped Bass" was asking if I brought any home..... |
Anthony weighed the fish on his Bogagrip - 24#.
I've seen guys drive and park under the bridge but haven't tried it (don't have the nerve to loose my permit). So I hoof it in from the parking lot. Yea, that 4Runner is my buggy. :) Next time you're on the beach come by and say "Hi!". I'll probably head East this coming weekend (have to scout areas for the Salty's ralley in 2 weeks) but I spend a lot of time in that spot during the summer. I'm sure our paths will cross again. |
We can break her of that no taste for striped bass... When my wife cooks up baked stuffed with lobster & crab meat or Beer Battered S-Bass, mmmmmmm...
One of the guys at work was born here but his folks came over from the Azores (Portugal) and they live on fish. His mom makes this fantastic fish/rice/egg whites/oil/spices mix that is incredible (very similar to a dish that a puerto rican friend of mine makes but his isn't as good). I took him out fishing a couple times last year and sent him home with some steaks for mom and two days later I had that recipe with striped bass and I think it was the best fish I've EVER had - it was that good.... (just don't tell my wife :P ) There's hope for you Fishpart... Has she ever had it? |
So far plain baked with butter and some seasoning and on the grill in Al foil with mayo and chives. She thinks it too heavy and meaty. The first time she had it it still had some dark meat and that did her in.
John, I was thinking our wives might do OK together or it could get US into lots of trouble... |
I've been making the point of cutting out the red/dark meat in the fillets. In addition to the fact that it has the worst taste of the fillet - that fatty part is most likely to contain any ill contaminants in the fish. It actually cuts out pretty easy and quickly, only adding a minute to a slow filet'er such as myself :P
Yep - we'd be dead for sure if the wives were allowed to compare notes. I've often thought that a "fishingwidows.com" would be more popular but I don't want to let that Genie out of the bottle :P (besides - the domain has been taken) |
Judging by all the pictures sent in I can see that catch and release is not a credo of the striped-bass.com followers/groupies/fisherpersons or wanabee messiahs. It appears readily apparent that all the aquatic life being proudly held up for the snapshots were way beyond the Silvis massage otherwise known as fish CPR. So I thought the other end of the spectrum as far as pictures were concerned was needed. You know something more mundane and peaceful taken just prior to a new days beginnings. The first person in the picture is a flyguy, but the second two pictured are baitcaster and fisherwoman at the narrows in Cotuit.

WOW nice picture Swimmer! It looks like the sun has a stream of smoke coming from it, cool. Sometimes ya just have to keep a fish now and then, you know to prove that you really are catching them. My wife said to me the other day, when are you gonna bring some home I want fish! I am a believer that if you can cook them good your spouse will enjoy them as well, but for the kids I gotta make it look like fishsticks and do a sales job.
|
Nice Shot!! That's on heck of a candidate for the front page - sorry Clammer but you get a week up front :P ... Swimmer - OK to put that up?
Yep, Swimmer, a lot more of the pictures are going to be table fish (at least they should be bound for the table). Then boat fish, shots taken before released are almost as common but it's a little tougher on the shore bound fellow. Now half those pics were fish that got quickly released, which is what we do prefer here. Not 100% C&R as some of us, myself included, do keep an occasional fish for the grille.... I was probably 99.95 C&R last year and plan to be about 99% this year. |
Nice shot swimmer, wonder who took that one LOL. What a beautiful day it was, I remember it well!!! What time are you getting down there on Friday? Email me and let me know.
|
Swimmer - You're point is taken. NTL,in my case my better-half asked me to bring home fish for the weekend grill. I doubt I will keep more than 1 more bass this season.
For each picture of a taken fish I feel safe to say there are dozens more fish anglers here release. |
The reason why I don't have any pictures is because I don't catch any!
No for real, I don't carry a camera because I don't have anyone to take my picture with the fish. And even if I did, it would be one of those waterproof ones and I would never get the film developed. We still have undeveloped film from Disney World when I was 7. But I'm one of those guys that throws back his catch. Except for fluke. Get in mah belly.... |
Swimmer outstanding pic and I am a devote CPR advocate, but I also like a good striper for the table once in a while. I catch a ton of keepers in a season and less than 10 usually make it home to the table. After a while, it's just another striper and the taste for it is gone until next year.
Personally, I'd rather eat a bunch of sweet crappie filets...yum. [img="http://www.rgsiroisco.com/fisherman.gif"] Tight lines. |
Check out my 49" stripe Bass
|
I think we might have a winner... nice fish!! Did you weigh it before it went on that round, fire breathing cylinder just behind you in the picture???
|
Nice fish Deeaago, Look's male, and look's like it was plenty hungry. Means it had a long swim.
|
Nice fish!
|
The fish in the picture on the first page posted by Jeff H (over 48 inches, hard to measure while wading) was released. FYI
|
Excellant catch there Deeaago, so tell us more. I definately want one of those.
That's good to know Damon. |
Deeaago,
Again, nice fish but like Damon said - more knowlege is necessary [img=http://www.striped-bass.com/Images/evil.gif] All I know for certain is that you got this fish photo done a couple weeks ago... But were you tossing clams, live-linning buckies, plugs or theoft mystical eel ... And where did you run across this fine bass? |
Another quality CT River fish
42 pounder taken a week and a half ago on a 7 inch bomber. This fish came from good stock. Not really fat, but very wide with broad shoulders. If more states would adopt a slot limit, Im convinced we would see more fish of this quality.
|
This is the one for you!
|
Welcome aboard JoeyF...
Nice fish gentleman!! I must admit that I'm jelaous as I've hardly gotten out and have barely managed 20 pounds this year :'( ... OK people, we need a vote - which fish goes on the front of the site :) |
