ok I have to ask.....what size tank are you going to keep these in ???and how many do you plan to have??? how often do you plan to do water changes??? what will you feed them??? what will you do when they become to big for the tank??? keeping fish of this size is a whole different story from keeping tetras and guppies!

as for JayR I hope I am there when you decide to take an illegal fish....:af:

I never mentioned taking an illegal fish.....
Don't assume the intent of a opinion. You are putting words in my mouth and I do not appreciate it.

Hey guys. When and if SOL gets back online, contact Wizardude. He has had tanked Striper's, and gave me all the info I needed. He's a whiz :)

Im was planning on keeping them in my 30 gallon tank, and was going to upgrade to a 100 when they got bigger. The fish are only 3-5 inches now so this would be plenty of room for quite a while.I was probally gonna get 5-10 fish so i can watch them school. After they out grew this my parents have a large pond(man made) in their yard that i was gonna put them in. I have owned many fish tanks in my time fresh and tropical salt, and know the wholw water change deal. I was planning on feeding them oscar food, with other live foods i collect myself, i work near the water, so ill just dump a minnow trap behind my job when i get to work.

Jayr i found a company that offers pure breeds and hybrids. The owner said the hybrids would be better for an aquarium as they aRE LESS FUSSY. I asked him how much harder the pure breeds are to care for and he is getting back to me. The hybrids are $1.50 each with $80 freight chaRge. Anyone interested?? How cool would it to have a 10 fish mini striper school in your living room??

First my apologies to Jay R for misinterpereting you "poaching" comment

and second to cheferson. I am glad you have thought this out and REALIZE they will get much bigger...its unfortunate but too many people (dont know what they are getting into)and thenwhen the fish get to big for the tank they try to find a place to "get rid of them" ....often resulting in introding a non-native fish to local ponds etc.

Raven 02-02-2004 02:13 PM

yeah local ponds

then we'll have to go in and whiper them out

No one wants to get down on some fish for their aquarium?

cheferson 03-06-2004 10:48 AM

You guys down at the saltwater edge arent interested? Think what a good way to sell your gear it would be. People come in your store any ee this mini school of stripers in your store, which excites them into buying more gear.

macojoe 03-06-2004 11:50 AM

I would be so excited over seing a bass in a tank I would by a Charlie Brown fishg pole and try catching it!

NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My thoughts are that when I saw this, would be, let it go and be free to grow to a 50# so I could catch it!

Or Gee I hope I will be able to catch something better then that!! Or why the heck am I borthering to buy anyting at all !!

I just go and get a Gold fish.

InshoreAngler 03-06-2004 12:52 PM

I dont think stripers would do well in a home aquarium....i was thinking about it myself.
right now I have a 45 gallon tank with 8 yellow lab cichlids, and a 20 gallon marine with a pair of clowns and lots of live rock and live sand.....if you want to go marine, get clowns and stuff, there probably funner to watch than stripers anyway.....and live rock setups look awesome:)

cheferson 03-06-2004 01:04 PM

I used to do a lot of tropical saltwater a while back. I just wanna watch stripers.:smash:

piemma 03-06-2004 01:48 PM

Me too. I want to watch them on the end of my line.:laughs:
