Just a bump.....not sure why, but I figured this might be a good time to re-visit this topic.....;) :)
Thanks, Mike.....:) |
Good bump Steve.
Actually, I have a question. The biggest problem I have is with the last step - securing the line to the lip hook - how the heck do I finish it all off? I've been told to tie a half hitch - would someone please be more specific? -WW |
Yep, Ben, that knot in the front hook has always stumped me......I just tie some big old ugly knot in it the best I can.... :smash:

I used heavy Dacron to rig up my last batch. I used a siwash for the rear but substituted a Gami Octopus for the front.
I tied the rear hook with a palomar but before feeding it through the vent, I estimated where the front hook would be and tied a couple of knots in the Dacron (leaving slack for the rear hook) to create a ball that wouldn't pass through the eye. I forced the front hook in through the mouth and, once it was in place, I fed the line through the vent and then through the back of the upturned eye. I threw another knot in front of the eye to hold it in place. Next time, I may use heavy braid and tie a small loop where the front hook will be and pass the loop through the eye, pull the running line around the eye and then through the loop. If the loop is small, I don't think it will slip. |
