I have actually woken up

and tryed to force myself not to fall asleep again because it seems to happen right when you are going to bed I really dont think its a dream because you are consious enough to try and wake yourself up my feeling is like jimbos that I am vunlerble to someone or something happening and I cant even defend my self or family jimbo hit home with his comment because thats what it feels like someones coming in and you cant do a thing about it.
Good subject I never knew there was anyone else with this dream, feeling or paralisis or whatever it is.

Dr WeeWee show.

Billybob 12-03-2004 01:28 PM

I have that falling dream too - feels so real.
.
I bet some of you have had this one:
.
It's your last day of finals, senior year in college and you never went to the class all semester - you don't even know where it is.
It's amazing how many people I know that have had this one.

partsjay 12-03-2004 01:57 PM

I have had this dream since I was a kid. For some reason I keep getting chased by a snowman:huh: ....I have no clue why I have this dream, but every once in a while, I do...and I love snow. No Clue.

MIKEY, MR MACY , JIMBO
next time you have that dream try and put your foot on the floor . force it off the bed , try really hard . you cant do it no matter how hard . Dr weewee is correct , you are in a state of sleep with the awareness of where you are and what you are trying to do but cant . also try and yell out . its some funny stuff .

You fall asleep, but your mind wakes up while your eyes are shut.

You are paralyzed - you can't move any muscles controlled by voluntary nervous system.

At first it's terrifying and then after a few of these you sit there and figure you're going to eventually wake up or shuffle off to another dream. So you're a prisoner in your own consciousness. It's pretty annoying, you can get pretty bored waiting to wake up. :smash:

mrmacey 12-03-2004 02:10 PM

funny to some

but scarey Ive tryed everything but you have that feeling that you cant move and damn what happens if you stayed that way OH OH that would really be a problem I even thought thats what it might feel like to be dead you know everything thats going on but cant move or speak.

S-Journey 12-03-2004 02:16 PM

Man, that is some scary stuff.

Rappin Mikey 12-03-2004 03:47 PM

You have no idea how scary it is. I feel like I'm straight out of Nightmare on Elm Street when I tell my fiance to wake me up if she hears me trying to say something or see me moving funny. What I find interesting is that everyone who has had this dream states that the feeling that someone, or something is trying to "get you" is way more scary then the actual paralysis. I really think it is satin or aliens? I know, I know, it definitely is some kind of sleep dissorder. If you experienced it, you would start to doubt your rational scientific explanations.

Jimbo 12-03-2004 04:04 PM

If I were to tell my wife about this dream she'd lay awake nights until I finally had it then she'd say to me, in a loud voice, (of course, because people who can't move don't hear well either), "Blink twice if you can't move, Jimbo." And as soon as I blinked twice she'd get "the look" in her eye and ripping off the sheets say, "And now my helpless one, you're going to be the object of one of my dreams." No sir, I won't tell her that one, only when I dream about Teri Hatcher.

AWSOME

article Dr weewee is a smart guy he knew exactly what it was so now I have some info on a condition I have had since I was 17 years old and was to afraid to tell anyone that they would think I was crazy who ever think s-b.com would be as helpful as this until this thread I have never discussed this condition with anyone because whoever experiences this will know why its hard to explain because it seams there no rational explanation to it.

bart 12-04-2004 01:08 PM

fu. it was scary. call me a homophobe, but i woke up kicking and screaming.

rhodyflyguy 12-04-2004 01:30 PM

holy sh1t, not as cary as sleep paralysis. it may just be your mind's worst fears, coming out at a time when you are the most vulnerable. maybe it's some way of your mind trying to tell you how lucky you are, being happy and healthy.

Rappin Mikey 12-04-2004 02:57 PM

Nope, it's demons or aliens. :D Seriously though, unless you have experienced it, don't make a diagnosis. We are not so scientifically advanced that we can rationally explain all of our scensory experiences. The brain is very complex, and certain nuerotransmitters, such as seratonin and nueroepinephrin, that control our moods and perceptions, are far from being completely understood. The point I am trying to get at is this, I am, and always will be crazy as hell! So is Mr. Macey and Jimbo!

Rappin Mikey 12-04-2004 03:08 PM

Whoa, I just read Hank's link. It said that people that experience this phrnomenon are typically very intelligent. I don't feel so bad now. I always thought I was slow.

rhodyflyguy 12-04-2004 07:07 PM

whoa, mike, you're smarter than i had ya pegged to be.

RickBomba 12-05-2004 10:26 PM

No he's not! He just went to college for 10 years!
Best one for me was a recurring one during high school...
I awake in the dream very upset, knowing something bad is about to happen. Just then I hear "Blop, blop, blop..." and look out my parents sliding door into their wooded back yard to see a six foot avacado (pretty much "Slimer" from Ghostbusters) bounding up the path in the woods.
Just then I realize that all my clothes are hanging on the line, so I frantically run outside to get the clothes, but by the thime I get there, he's eaten them all.
Had another last week about tuna fishing with my dad on spinning tackle with a rusted out krokodile. Everytime I had a fish close enough to gaff, I 'd ask him for help, and he'd have a giant grinder in his mouth, and the fish would get off!
Oh the life of a slepp disorder affected wacko!
Later,
Rick
