I went on line and found out some info on the three fisherman and the author.

Seth Barton French. Married into the Forbes family. Tons of dough.

George Tew- A Newport resident, he was a mason in the off season.

John Whipple was another heavy hitter

Daniel Fearing. Was a collector of sportsman phots. His books are very rare and are considered priceless.

Thanks, Toby - that print does look great in the dark mahogany frame - ya know, I think someone oughta get a really nice thank you on Valentine's Day ;)

There's a lot of history in that print - Fearing was mayor of Newport in 1894 and quite a collector of angling prints and literature. He published a book that is probably the rarest of any in angling literature and would probably be the most expensive in the current market - if any were to become available.

If memory serves, French's wife was a direct descendent of George Washington and was said to have attended a costume ball in Newport wearing an heirloom locket with a lock of his hair.

It was an incredible crowd of movers and shakers in Newport in those days - and they were serious about their bass!
