I have at least one spare XP/Tbird board, a couple of Intel LX/BX boards including dual celery, Probably some P-3 boards. Processors I have 233/333 dual 333, C400, C500 C533 C433 and some other odds and ends...

Sounds to me like your firewall is preventing your ISP from pinging your system to verify you are a membre. It allows you on but every so often , say every half hour , it sends out a ping and you firewall is preventing a return response so it shuts you off as if you were not a member of their service.

Still running? With the router out of the picture, I would have guessed an intermittent cable modem.

macojoe 05-10-2005 02:01 PM

Router still in place!!

We reformatted the computer and it works fine now??

Jonny5-22796 05-11-2005 02:22 PM

I read through this whole thing and it seems a little f*ed up. I would try a static ip address, and disable the windows firewall, and just utilize the firewall on the router.

OR

Get a SWITCH or HUB and I doubt you will have any problems from that.

OR (if you cheap like me and need a solution without spending a dime)

If you get "booted off" next time, run the command ipconfig in prompt, if you still have an address like (192.168.1.XXX) or (10.127.1.XXX) then your network card is fine. Go to another pc in the home and try to ping your computer ( c:\ping 192.168.1.XXX(yourpcip) ) if that works, then you know the router works fine. The problem must be somewhere else.

Ill keep checking back here...
