here we go....WOO HOO!!

I am reading AND posting so I dont get tagged as a lurker :)

I was supposed to get to RI this winter when no one was around to check out spots but was unable to :(

Maybe an early spring trip will help narrow down some areas when the girls come home.

Everyone on the Planet Earth know about the (*&*(^*&^*( run is.
the burning of a spot doesnt really have anything to do with catching fish whether it be 6 inches of water of 6 fathoms, its about placing "extra" (as in more than usual) pressue on a location.

Paul - This response from people is not directed at you specifically so don't get wound up on it. It's a classic tug of spot information warfare :hee: . Personally, I think there is WAY too much emphasis on spots from too many different sources, here included. Bait Shops trying to get the last dollar on their Fisherman Mag ads, Charters blabbing away, various online and print media - it's tooooo much. I just don't want to see this site as mainstream of pressure on "spots".

You have been fishing hard for a long time, right? How did you learn spots - betcha went out and learned them. Learned what made them tick. Learned from others close and not so close, in your circle and not. Met and fished with people in a club. Made many solo nighttime journeys. When you walked into Joe's Bait and he winked and said they blitzed beach X last night, 20 people might have heard. Now, Joe's Bait goes onto the Fisherman and says Joe, Tom, and Tony hammered fish to 30 pounds on Plug"Y" at Beach X and 500 people think about heading there.

I think it is about balance, and there is no balance in media today about spots. It's park here, walk there, and cast up over yonder. Yeh, I've been guilty of it too but I just can't see how spots can be sustainable over the long term....

OK - enough rambling on my part

ProfessorM 03-22-2005 10:32 AM

Sorry if anyone offended in me mentioning the specific run I did. Thought the location was common knowledge being the largest run in state. I agree with your concern. From now on mum's :faga: the word. Paul

piemma 03-22-2005 11:51 AM

OK, I have been chastised and will post no more information about anything, anywhere, anyhow. From here on all my information will be kept in the vault. Except for the Striper run at Wood River.

I thought J plugs were the answer, but now I now it's the Y plug. Thanks John.
Salty you sell Y plugs? :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

piemma 03-22-2005 12:37 PM

There are NO Herring in Rhode Island, Mass, or CT. All the herring are in the Hudson River. How's that for burning a spot......

TheSpecialist 03-22-2005 02:38 PM

John that would make things a heck of alot easier......

BTW I was'nt chastising one member on this board, I am chastising all of us. We all need to be alot more concientious of what we post.

Uncle Matt 03-22-2005 03:47 PM

By the way John, I like the way authors of specific posts can go back later and delete his or her entire post. You know, a few minutes later after posting a quick, retalitory response. I've used in twice in 24 hours.

strpr3 03-22-2005 07:08 PM

Am I the only one who finds it ironic that ThrowingTimber's sig lists a Rhody herring run in it??

thefishingfreak 03-22-2005 07:13 PM

SEE :eyes: he's only got one post and chimed in on this thread.

TheRattBoy 03-22-2005 07:21 PM

Maybe it would be better if no one posted anything till the end of the season...then we could compare notes on how our seasons went :hang: :jester: johnny

Striperhound 03-22-2005 08:02 PM

John, please put this thread out of its misery. We all get it! the spot police are out in full force. By the way how does someone go about getting appointed to the spot police and does it come with a badge and revolver? Im looking for a second job. :jester:

Take it easy.... anyone with half a brain and a good map can locate almost every accessible herring that exists. THe runs tend to be spotty for the last 10 years, some years good, others not so.... The fact of the matter remains that if everyone followed the regs and only kept their limit, their would be plenty to go around in all those OBVIOUS runs. GS has been a mob scene for years, do a little research and you can find plenty of brooks and other runs ignored by the hordes. Have fun netting them, keepin them alive from the run to the truck, the truck to the hold, the hold to the livewell. If you fish from shore, add in the fun of keepin them alive in yer converted shore baitwell attched to the tether on yer moms stolen laundry basket..... They do make excellent fertilizer though when left in the 5 gallon a little too long. Throw a 6 inch storm shad and fish it correctly instead, itll catch more fish for way less effort.

M^2 03-23-2005 12:52 PM

Close the runs until they drop, let the breeders breed
