Alive tody...My friends Steve Morris & a guy named TK
From the past...I agree with MikeP. on the MAd Russian but then again I think the Derby is just plain old religion |
Ted
Patrick,
I would have to say Ted Williams and my Dad. Both are heros, Ted being a Marine Corp fighter pilot who loved his country and unfortunately the man who taught me how to fish can not go up a few stairs. This is due to years of cigarette smoking and now he is paying the price. If I could have just one day on the water with him again, I would cherish it forever. |
Along w/ Relentless I would choose Teddy ballgame and also his fishing pal Curt Gowdy. ;)
|
Jerry sylvester would be my 2nd choice :D
|
I voted for Woolner but I really rather fish with Roy Leyva.
:D :D :D |
i voted steve van stall and #^^^^^^&. with steve, i thought that i might get a good exercise. as for #^^^^^^&, maybe watching him might improve my eeling skills.
however, i would like to fish with crazy alberto and BM. he is a diehard. i would like to fish down the cape and rocky shore on RI. |
the gals that make the PENN ads :kewl: thats one time I would'nt care if I caught anything and a close second would be John R and clamman but they would have to be together :smokin:

The Mad Russian
I'm a young guy but I have read lots about the good old days when monster bass were caught every day.
Sergey de Somov: is mentioned in "Reading the Water" by Robert Post. He was one of the best bass fisherman ever. He won the MV derby three consectutive years in a row between 1963-1965 with 52, 54,and 49 lbs bass he won again in 1969 with a 51 lb bass. No one ever really got to fish with him. He was rumored to use lobster tails amoungst other things. He also would pick up his tackle and leave in the middle of a blitz if another fisherman was around. I'm certain he could have taught me a thing or two about pulling slobs from the surf. http://www.mvderby.com/history/halloffame.html I wish I had a mentor, because my Enthusiasm and drive is there, but I do spend many a night getting skunked and wandering beaches quessing rather than knowing where to go I have never fished Block island (hope to get down this fall) but I'm going to nominate The isle of Martha's Vineyard in this debate but I'm openly biased. |
I fished with Coleman in the Keys - he's a quiet "actions speak louder than words" kinda guy.
Fished with Milt Rosko last summer on an overnight cod trip - he's truely a statesman of the sport. I wanna fish with Jimmy Buffet on the Monomoy Flats with Flap, Slip and Dipship :D |
I would most like to fish with old friends who for one reason oranother 9usually family) have no time to fish anymore or who i have lost track of over the years. I really couldn't care less about fishing with celebrities but if i had to pick some people , it would be stetzko and chirappo.
|
It isn't so much the actual "fishing" that I cherrish with Chirappo as it is the time spent talking and listening that I enjoy the most.
The same with everyone I fish with. To me it isn't about fishing. I fish with a great, great group of guys, most from this board, that what really gets me going is the sittin around shootin the bull tellin fishing lies resortin to "Plan B" when things are slow that do it for me. I don't care that some guy has caught this many fish or that many big fish years and years ago. Good for them. They need to take off their high school letter jacket. I am not a fan of celebrities and prefer to do my own thing than chase spots and reports. I have stood on beaches before slaying big fish every cast and had people walk up with their Walfart rod combos (the ones that come with mystery line on them), cast out, reel upside down, and catch BIG fish. Good for them too. Its a matter of gettin out there and doing it. The thing that makes someone a skilled fisherman involves some technique as to where to be/ when, but the biggest factor next to luck is being able to be out there all the time. Fish have fins and move, so they could be at any spot at any time. Its just a matter of being in the right place at the right time. Person I'd like to fish the most with is by myself more even though I can't stand myself, cause then I don't have to worry about "spot burnin" and make people angry. And I'd always catch the most fish. |
I enjoy company but to seriously fish, without having to worry about catching or if the guy with me knows what he's doing or not, I prefer to fish alone. I fish with Woolner in a way, I have his boat. In four years it will be forty years old and this past weekend over a hundred bass were landed in it. Several in the 20 pound class, one bigger and lots smaller. I think he would be happy that it is still a viable fish catching machine. On the sand I like being alone under the stars and sometimes just look around and take in the scenery. I am at peace there or drifting across the flats at B-Harbor or Monomoy. Of course you are never really alone, the spirits of those gone 'round the bend are still watching. Me and the ghosts of all those who went before, that's who I like to fish with.

All these people are great at what they do , but ... if I had a choice I'd pick...
Heather Locklear! |
Saltheart I agree with your last post 100%!
|
I chose Charlie Dodge, because he's forgotten more about The Island than I'll ever know! However, Pat was a close second.
|
Hmmmm...fishing with heather locklear????? OH YEAH!!!! :)
|
now this puts a spin on this poll hands down

Bump.
Tim's written words were always great. Tony, I just missed you. Pat Abate, I'd like to fish with now. Posted from my iPhone/Mobile device |
Heather Locklear would also have been a good choice, she aged nicely.

You gonna be at the MSBA Show? I will have a booth there-stop by and say HI! JC |
My first choice would be my boys over all the greats that are mentioned ( also my daughter and wife on the rare occasion they want to).
Block hands down for me Did not realize this thread was so old at first. Very cool though. DZ after "#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&" went to boat fishing I don't think he returned to the surf much, just kind of disappeared? Perhaps health related? |
Clammer, if you could GUARANTEE me I would get back alive. :D
|
I would go back and fish with my uncle Bill in the rips of Nantucket with guys like Bud Henderson and Spider Anderson.
