Skunked again from the surf today 0500 to 0730

Out on boat with two kids and fresh herring 1200 to 1500 nada

Tourney going on up this way, maybe fifty boats fishing, saw only two small fish landed, both in the white water up tight by fly rodders.

Back out tomorrow for sunrise

CANAL RAT 06-26-2005 08:43 PM

Nothing wrong with it if thats what you like...all I am saying is its not my speed. I like to be more involved. :walk:

Big, I wouldn't touch bait with a ten foot pole. It would make me AND my car smell horrendous. Chunking is not my speed, either, thank you. Although I won't be snotty about people who have a good time doing it. They can fish however they want, and I won't blame any lack of catching on my part on the fact that I choose to fish in a "more involved" manner. Don't assume that all I do is have my boyfriend bait my line and daintily toss it out into the water. Not my speed...bah. :lossinit:

BigFish 06-26-2005 09:36 PM

Kudos to you Bassbabe on passing on rod-watching! :kewl: Hope my comment did not offend you it was not meant that way. What is your preferred method of fishingBB? You may ball me BF. ;) I did not mean to sound as though I was belittling you.

Goose 06-26-2005 09:42 PM

Its respectable to throw eels but when a guy dunks chunks he's goin ta hell.
A monkey can throw an eel a reel it in,,,give guy props for catchin when everyone else is pipping. People get the wrong idea about fishin ...its just bassassbackwards:smash:

BigFish 06-26-2005 09:45 PM

Not ripping anyones method of fishing Goose....its just that I hate bait dunking.....its the devils way! :devil2:

This year has been better than last so far. Ive only gotten skunked once this year. By this time last year i was into a lot of blues and unfortunatly i have yet to lose an eel or a dozen to them.

NIB 06-27-2005 05:21 AM

Their all still in NJ.Huge pods of bunker an constant south winds from the deeper waters keepin the temps in the low 60's an the bass hangin around.in the last 2 weeks many fish over 30 have been taken the boats are just killin em an us surf guys get em when the push in.50 # plus fish seem to be more scarce this yr.I know of only a few. The last 2 yrs many where taken.
Don't make me come up there an spank ur fish.I may stop in RI an beat up on the striped ones there first.

ThrowingTimber 06-27-2005 05:49 AM

:sled: I've been seeing a good sized increase in :ss: 's that are from Mass. Usually you see the increase later in the season. But there are noticeably more :ss: 's out here now. :kewl:

Dunno why sooo much traffic.. there aint no fish in RI. :faga:

MakoMike 06-27-2005 06:16 AM

You guysa are kidding right? The week before last there were 6 fish over 50 lbs weighed in in RI and this past week, there were three 50lb plus fish, just on Sunday! The first three places in the ASA tourney went to 50 pound plus fish.

ThrowingTimber 06-27-2005 07:09 AM

aint no fish hea!

zacs 06-27-2005 07:51 AM

i can't complain. not one bit.

although I did go on a fluke charter [bachelor party] on saturday and out of 15 people, we caught one short and a skate. Although only 8 or 9 of us were really fishing hard... the rest.... :buds: :gu: :smokin: :yak4:

So to some up, striper fishing = good, fluking = bad.

Your not fishing MV are you? My take is bass fishing is pretty good in MA. We didn't get the big spring wave of fish where it was really hot for a week then a slow pick afterwards but there are plenty of fish around from the beach. Instead, it has been more of a steady trickle of fish this year. With new fish arriving each week. I have had a good number of fish > 20# and my largest so far was 42.5 this season. Lots of smaller fish just over the keeper marks as well to keep it interesting. We are getting fish almost every night. Somenights are better then others. Only a couple of what I would call really excellent nights but its been fine IMO. Boat guys are doing very well with loads of 30's and 40's on live scup.

If you want bass you need to fish nights. Spend time with your family during the day...there will be plenty of time for sleep when you are dead (or go back to work :hee: )

Sandman (and Beachwalker) ...

MV and Nantucket are striper disneylands.

They are not the hit-or-miss worlds of the Cape, RI, and Long Island (noticed I left out CT cuz that's mostly "miss.").

I have NEVER gone to MV/N and not caught fish, even during crappy Wx.

I would gladly give my left nut to have a shack where you guys are fishing right now. :faga:

Mr. Sandman 06-27-2005 08:30 AM

FWW..keep both your nuts. Fishing ain't **that** great. :hee:

Fishing is pretty good along the cape too right now. Was in falmouth this weekend and the bar tender was telling telling his friend just how hot the action was in the woods hole area from the shore at 8:00pm at night. "blues all day and bass most of the night" was his quote. I never said a thing just listened. Now I don't know this guy but he clearly was catching something and reading all the reports (fisherman, OTW, etc) it sounds like it is pretty good.

Moses 06-27-2005 08:37 AM

So far, this season has been disappointing. I've had the boat in the water since early April and fished northern ri and souther ma hard. Not many fish and none bigger than 36".

Late May thru today, have fished Buzzards Bay, MV, Nantucket Sound, sshore ma and cape cod bay. Again, not many fish and mostly smaller. Biggest fish so far was taken friday morning in Plymouth/Duxbury bay, 37".

The canal has been the biggest disappointment this year. I'm still heading down before work and some nights since early May. A couple small keepers and plenty of skunks.

Caught a handful of blues off some south cape beaches while on vacation last week in Mashpee. This was my most productive week. Blues every morning and night from shore, nothing bigger than 5lbs though.

Lets hope things improve.

BasicPatrick 06-27-2005 08:40 AM

I am fishing 4-6 days per week in MA right now...a lot of small 1-2 hour trips and catching keepers just about every trip for the last couple weeks...

and by the way...8 out of 10 trips are from shore

keep fishin BF..it will come

reelecstasy 06-27-2005 08:45 AM

For me personally, I am having one of the best starts to a season ever. I have only took the skunk home a few times so far. I have been fortunate enough to find fish just about everywhere I have gone. This past weekend, I hit 8 spots form south shore MA to the south Cape beaches I found fish at each spot. I hit a bunch of blues and a keepah down the cape and picked up shorts the rest of the time. I also sad to say dropped 2 really good fish but thats fishing. So, all in all I find it to be a good start to the season and if the start is indicative of the season to come, I can't wait for the fall run...not that I want to rush thru summer... Get out there and fish :ss:

it starts at 6am and ends at 5:59am the next morning.
slack deep in the rocks sat night was amazing.

the area harbors have more schoolies than you can shake a stick at.

MakoMike 06-27-2005 10:43 AM

Zac,
Three of us had 14 fluke on saturday with two in the five pound range and one that went seven and a half pound on a certified scale.

can't speak for everyone else but my reply was directed towards cape fishing, which i do very little of . rhody has been very good to me this year, having my best season ever so far. :hee:

S-Journey 06-27-2005 01:54 PM

Yes, the fishing has been terrible this year, but I suspect it is only my 7 month old daughter causing that :-)

Nebe 06-27-2005 02:03 PM

i cant buy a fish

RIROCKHOUND 06-27-2005 02:25 PM

E.. you and me both; got your VM, I'll catch ya at some point..
This spring so far for me, the fish havent been where I THINK they should, I think they are around, but just aint been where I was fishing....

Ive been a believer in the intangibles when it comes to fishing for awhile now.

There is a certain x-factor that some people have that others do not. Its something that goes beyond skill and knowledge. Its that thing that if there are 5 guys in a line using the same bait the same way, the person with the most x-factor outfishes the rest.

I thought after last year, I had it, but apparantley, this year, I do not. It must come and go, ebb and flow like the tide. Granted I am only behind two keepers on last years talley, overall count I am probably a few dozen back.

Call it what you will, x-factor, mojo, @#$ luck, I dunno...
