By "non english speaking", I assume you mean people from foreign countries that like to fish. Why is that a problem? I'm not trying to start anything, but I hear this very often and I know and understand the thought process about following the reg's and littering issues that are beaten like a rented mule. So, possibly a bad choice of words? Or, as I touched on, an incomplete thought process?
Again, I'm not trying to start any conflicts over the issue. I just think we need to be careful not to lump people into catagories because of nationality, or any other criteria.

Anyways, back to the topic at hand; Luckily, I saw a lot of this coming and got rid of the gas hog Dodge Ram that required a dedicated refinery in order to commute to work during the week and bought a Toyota pickup that I'm very happy with. I also downsized my boat. If I wasn't working so much, I'd fish as much as I normally do. Thankfully the mandatory overtimes are starting to taper off in time for the fall. Saved some vacation time, and will be hitting it pretty good soon.

Raider Ronnie 09-02-2005 02:35 AM

I see a LOT fewer boats out on the water when I'm out on mine!!!

Mr. Sandman 09-02-2005 05:41 AM

I will not do long runs on the boat anymore this season unless I get a fresh report that is fantastic from multiple sources. It is not worth it. Also I will not do any exploring on the boat until fuel prices come down.

I will do more surf casting. A night in my 4WD burns a lot less fuel then a day on the boat.

Charter guys have to be taking it in the butt. When you hit $750 for a half day charter a lot fewer people will show up. A recent poll of the fishermen here showed a lot fewer guys fishing already at 550/half day.

I bet you see some nice large power boats on the market at reasonable prices this winter!

CAL 09-02-2005 06:10 AM

BigBo, a few times I've been told in broken english that they're taking shorts cuz they gotta feed the family. Figured if they can't afford food then they sure can't afford gas now either.

BigBo 09-02-2005 06:40 AM

Well, like I said, that's wrong. I'm not the PC Police, but still don't think all should be labeled for the faults of some. My personal situation allows me to fish with some "non english speaking" people and all that I know follow the reg's as much as the rest of us.

Now, lets forget about gas prices and go fishing! :btu:

It's fall , screw pump prices , i'm fishing.

Gas is cheaper in SoCo than it is in my town.

honestly, i dont care if there are a lot of people around or hardly any... i just like to fish :D

eelman 09-02-2005 08:52 AM

I am glad I filled up a couple of days ago at $2.60 full tank and ready to go for the wekend! Will it slow me down nope! I will eat spam, cat food, or anything else but miss a night of fall fishing? No way!

Steve and I are considering car pooling now instead of bringing those two thirsty V8s all the time.......

No Lookin Back

Filled up my truck this morning, $72.00. My boat is fairly economical with a 115 HP Yammy. The only thing that gets me through the week is thinking about fishing on the weekend. Maybe 2 months left, best fishing of the season is ahead, I'm biting the bullet.

I do miss my tin boat. With the 30 HP Honda I would maybe burn 2 gallons of gas, some days only 1. It only weighed 500# so you did not even know you were towing it. Clammer bought it from me. What a visionary!

Bass Babe 09-02-2005 10:33 AM

Rob Rockcrawler's Post: I just drove in from michigan, 3.69 a gallon out there. thankfuilly i was driving a rented 4 banger. Now its back to my truck. Its tough that the prices hit the roof during the fall run. Im scared of lookin at my visa statement around december, its gunna be a lean cristmas for friends and family, man i hope i catch large.

ProfessorM 09-02-2005 05:36 PM

I am definately using the 14' tin boat way more then the 20' glass boat. So glad I did not get rid of it when I got the new boat 3 years ago. Paul

Raider Ronnie 09-02-2005 07:00 PM

I used to be able to fill my truck on $20 and drive for a week!
Now it's going to take $20 to fill the tank on my ride on tractor to cut my grass!!!
As for my boat,
I may have to start acceping (or asking for ) gas money when I take friends out !!!
I have definately changed some of my ways by fishing inside Boston harbor instead making LONG runs just to go cod fishing for fun!!!

PurpelNoon 09-03-2005 06:40 AM

This is all a good start for us to become fitter as a nation. More walking less driving. :err:

Thom 09-03-2005 06:53 AM

Yep All ready had cut back now it will be even more. Good chance it will be only fresh water fishing this fall. Maybe one or two trips and that will be it. ThomT

MikeTLive 09-03-2005 07:41 AM

drove home wednesday saw prices up into the 3.37 range.
passed a station that still had 2.79 and got in the 10-car long line to fill up.
got home, grabbed all the gas jugs I could find and headed to the local sta for 2.99 gas. would have cost me more to drive all the way back to that lone 2.79 station.

parked the truck and didnt go into the office Thursday or Friday - that saved me 16 gal. my truck has been gettin like 13mpg I really need a new one. I wonder if these gas prices would be enough to offset the payments...

I am already scraping money for the rebuild of the house.
Gonna start walkin to my favorite fishin hole.

179 09-04-2005 06:29 AM

$2.79 a gallon you guys are lucky, Down this way it's $3.29-$3.49 on the street and $4.00 at the marina, hell yeah it has halted my fishing....

Pete F. 09-04-2005 08:31 AM

Pretty much 3.50 here in VT

Katie 09-04-2005 08:46 AM

I haven't left the house in about a week, but I believe gas prices here are about $2.59 to about $2.80..Slowing me down? Nope, I take the bus. Although, if it wasn't so high, i'd be driving right now. :nailem: Stop me from fishing? Heck no. I can walk or ride the lawn mower down. :buds: The yuppies will hopefully be gone by tuesday. The markets even getting to expensive here, and we have to suffer the mark-ups :af:

It's all good, now I just need to catch something! :wavey:

That station had 3.35 the next morning.

tattoobob 09-04-2005 12:35 PM

I paid 2.79 last Tuesday and 3.05 last night. 3.05 is the cheapest around
Salisbury around the 95, 495 ramps

no I will not let it interfair, I will stop buying coffee at DD'S and start to bring my lunch to work and stop buying plugs and tackle, but I will not stop fishing

Backbeach Jake 09-04-2005 01:23 PM

I just paid 3.30 in P-town. They couldn't use the defibulator cos I was too close to the gas pump. They kick started my heart and I'm OK except for the scream I hear in my head. It has a Scots accent. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaach!

Katie 09-04-2005 04:10 PM

Update on todays price here.. $3.58 a gallon.... i gotta get out more...

Raven 09-04-2005 04:38 PM

it's like being in a TAXI Cab!

when you drive now............but instead of watching the meter run,
your watching dollars vanish as the fuel gauge needle races for the finish line of empty. :yak:

Just got back from the Cape.

Gassed up here at $2.89 on Wed.

Got to Buzzards Bay, gassed up at the Citgo/7-11 at the end of Head of the Bay Rd for the same $2.89.

Stopped there for coffee on the way to the Canal, still $2.89.

Drove thru BB area. 3 no-name stations were all around $3.09. The Texaco at the RR bridge rotary was $3.41. No name next to Cumbies was $3.15, the Valero was $3.25, Citgo at Xtra Mart was $3.14, the Exxon at the Bourne rotary was $2.99 as was Sorenti's Shell at the Sag.

Next day--Citgo at 7-11 went to $3.29, the no names were $3.25, Citgo at Xtra Mart was $3.17, Exxon was $3.29, Sorenti's was up to $3.39 and the Texaco in BB was $3.41.

As of this morning---7-11 still $3.29 (which I gassed up at before leaving), no names all $3.25 (and, BTW, "cash only" no credit cards"), Texaco in town was $3.51, Valero was $3.25, Xtra Mart $3.41, Exxon $3.29 and I didn't get as far as Sorenti's.

Citgo at 7-11, $3.29. Citgo at Xtra Mart, $3.41---wassup wid dat

When I got back here, the cheapest I saw was $3.39 at Hess. The Exxon down the road was $3.79 :eek5:

ThrowingTimber 09-05-2005 12:38 AM

What gets me with Hess is, they have several refineries in NJ that aren't affected in the least by the hurricane.

eelman 09-05-2005 07:52 AM

It definatly is starting to hurt, but all I need are 12 more weeks!!

beachwalker 09-05-2005 08:18 AM

it now costs me $85-95 to fill my truck....

unreal :walk:

I'll be doing a lot more walking this fall....

ABSOLUTELY !!!! At least Kerry doesn't own any oil companies or have any royalties coming from the Middle east to him.

Bush is all for having the price go out of sight, the higher it goes ... the more he makes, plain and simple.

And that clown he calls his VP is making a fortune on feeding the military in the Middle east.

So where does Bush and Chaney not feel the pinch of the high prices? They don't feel it, we pay for it and they collect on it ... I'm sure they feel real bad for us, they're crying all the way to the bank.

If any president needed to be shot it should be him, he can't even finish what daddy started and failed at in the Middle east, he's a loser just like his father was.
