Hi Mike! didn't realize you were on this board. I have "Stripers in Paradise" and love it. Although I would like to see more surfcasting footage, will this new one have more? I understand it may be tough, especially with these spot burning battles going on. Awesome pictures by the way!

Ok,

I have a couple comments that someone just needs to say regrding this thread.

If you are reading this thread you should go back to the main page and read the thread about the new site raffle. I read english and the thread lets us all know that the till that keeps this site running is low. With this in mind, lets look at a few angles on this thread.

The thread starts out with a passive agressive advertisement for Cowhunter's new charter business. It would be ok if this was a client reporting on a trip, but this is a celebrity endorsement complete with manufactured professional photos. I also need to note that Kenny did not post this blatant SPAM. In today's economy with the pricing of inshore fishing charters going off the hook due to fuel, dockage, etc, the charter business is getting even more competative than in the past. My point is that this site has paid sponsors that actually PAY to advertise on this site. This thread has put John R in an impossible position. I do not think it is ok for this thread to remain as it is free advertising like this that if paid for would not have John needing to do site raffles to keep the lights on. Once
again I hope that Kenny Cowhunter becomes a Sponsor as all reports say that he is an S-B kind of guy.

One more arguement for pulling this thread. I would like to know if FishEye is a PAID Sponsor of this site. For Two years I have watched this site used to build and build up the expectation on the new DVD. No doubt the quality will be what we are all used to seeing from the master. Mike Laptew is the best videographer in the business, period. However Business is business and if Fish Eye is is not a paid sponsor than this thread must come down.

I post this as I can not fathom the idea that John would have to come out of pocket for site costs with the thousands of dollars crossing these boards on a regular.

Un Paid sponsors need to ante up and kick in.

BigFish 10-07-2005 08:56 AM

I was thinking the same things Patrick! SPAM SPAM SPAM! :spam:

Good point.
True.

BasicPatrick,

I’m sorry you feel the way you do about the post. The intention was to give a fishing report on our recent trip to the Race while taking a tongue-in-cheek poke at some of the over reactions to spot burning…MHO.

As far as your comments on spamming and not being a supporter of the site…I think it might have been better if you talked with John before you questioned my lack of sponsoring or supporting the site.

In the past I’ve done two full-length shows for the fund raising efforts of this site. I might only have 591 posts on this site but I think if you do a search you’ll find that I’ve always salted most of them with images. I’ve spent considerable time working on those images in Photoshop and then sizing them and then even promoting them as free screensavers. My goal has always been to try to keep people entertained and informed. I’m in the business of selling images (7 pictures in the October issue of Salt Water Sportsman, four pages of images in the March issue of Field and Stream, etc.) but I’ve always been happy to share my work with the S-B community.

There’s been a fair amount of interest in my DVD because a lot of folks from this site have been privy to seeing rough cuts at fundraisers and blueberry socials. Check out this thread and you’ll see I never instigated a promo for the video.

My time spent providing photo essays of Cuttyhunk, with where to fish info, is not exactly an example of taking form the site; I thought it was an example of contributing something to it. Anyone that’s talked to me at any of the shows should attest to the fact that my number one goal is the sharing of information. Patrick if you have a problem with the thread by all means have it taken down.

Mike

Fish Eye,

Your photos are outstanding and I'm glad you post them here! There are plenty of excellent photographers out there, but few who take photos from a fisherman's perspective :kewl: . One of the cardinal rules of intellectual (artistic) property is to NEVER give anything away for free. You obviously don't follow that rule and everyone on this site is richer for it. Thanks.

Hopefully the guys with nothing better to do than whine about having to look at great photos will grab a rod and actually give fishing a try. :rollem:

BasicPatrick 10-07-2005 09:05 PM

Fisheye,

You have completely missed my point. My point is simple. I am talking about CASH, BENJAMINS, DUCKETS, or whatever you wish to call MONEY. This is what pays the bills. This is how it works. For profit companies BUY advertising through Sponsorship. If you look real clear I asked if you were a paid sponsor. Your answer leads me to beleive not.

Frankly, I do not want to hear about how you probably waived your $800 appearance fee, etc. Let's take a poll Everyone that would not have gone to the Too Freekin Cold to Fish nites if Fisheye was not the entertainment please let us know. Everhyon ethat would rather see fishEye pay like other sponsors raise your hand.

John is having to run a raffle with some of his own products and I am bull %$%$%$%$ that he has to do so. The day will come when all of the unpaid spammers and plug advertisers on this site will be off the hook if this thing is sold to someone like you know who over at you know where.

That is my point.
In God We trust, All Others Must Pay Cash

Gotta catch a tide

fishweewee 10-07-2005 09:44 PM

Hey guys,

Forgive me for piggybacking on this thread, but since we're on the topic of shameless spam, I would like to announce ...

...that I'm launching my very own Rhode Island guide service.

You can find more about Rhode Island right here (sorry if a few spots get burned, if you don't like it tough titties).

Here it is!

Nice.site Fishpeepee.
not sure how to treat to this i love mikes work an his photo's are always a great addition to a site like this. Do i think kenny should step up an become a sponser? His hard work an dedication would is well known an he could do good from spendin a few duckets here.his season will be winding down soon though an perhaps he might wanna wait till next season.there are buisness politics that i don't always realize. there's alot of instances where on the other site the guy has to put his foot down an its not always well recieved.I have no idea what it takes monetarily to run a site like this. But I am truely greatful to John R for doin it.

fishaholic18 10-07-2005 10:42 PM

Ben, where do I sign up???? :kewl:

I'd like to hear John's opinion on all this, he usally jumps in when evil spammers come a knocking. IMHO, the fishporn Fisheye posts are not spam, but fishy pics for fishy people to enjoy.

Keep em coming.

the Price of running S-B /// so it's not such a mystery...

charge a membership fee... 2000+ members times ten bucks a year

is twenty grand... now (reverse) scale down to who will actually pay it...

out of those 2000+ members... i don't get all this SITE secret smoke....:smokin:

and mirrors.... poofiness... it's like halloweenies....

fishsmith 10-10-2005 06:13 AM

I agree Raven, this place is alot better than a magazine, and $10 is less than any subscription.

TheSpecialist 10-10-2005 09:44 AM

While I most certainly would spend 10.00 a year to be a member of this site, you guys are missing the point. There are other people here who are paying sponsers, and two of them are charter boats. Now while we all enjoy Cowhunters pics, he generally has been "less commercialized" in his posting. He never has solicited anything from members of this site. I am sure if Ken wanted to become a sponser, John would not have any problem with it, or if he wanted to post non comercialized pictures of his fish than that would not be a problem.

Some people just seem to post stuff when it suits thier needs, and that is not right.
