I like cutting my legs in half. The ideal bait for me would be a big crab cut in half, peal the shell and legs cut at the nuckle. That may not be the big tog bait but you will hook up consisantly. Buzz bay is smokin commerial tog.

Nebe 10-27-2005 07:14 PM

this is what i am going to try.. hi-lo top hook gets a clam belly and the bottom gets a crab. In my wildest fishgasm dream i get a double hookup.. tog on crab and bass on clam :D

spence 10-27-2005 08:52 PM

Them togz will take the clams too :humpty:

damn, all of this tog talk is killing me. i might give frances fleet a try next friday because they start togging this saturday and i cant go because of my thai boxing and instructing kung-fu class in chinatown. i have to break down those scrawny teenagers into a bunch of hardass martial artists.

After talking with Spence last night it was revealed that of course all of the above will catch blackfish, legs off, legs on, shell off shell on....
my sentiment has always been; why bother doing all that... too much work, and if they cant get it in their mouth I dont want em on my hook :D

tight lines and be safe out there this fall...

At this moment I am more interested in targeting tog then bass...I am bassed out for 05 (I also injured my ankle (while surf fishing) and will be hobbling around for the rest of 05 so catching a few tog from the boat sounds like a lot of fun!)
I love bass fishing, don't get me wrong but the fall run is not all it is cracked up to be compared to years past. Nowadays, I do better in the suds in June then Oct-Nov anyway.

As soon as the seas calm down I will be out in BB looking for rockpiles to drag some crabs across. I noticed they use green crabs here, when I fished them in NY they seem to smaller fiddler crabs.

I am no expert on toggin,In fact I have only gone a handful of times before and don't know the toggin grounds that well here. Most guys I know anchor but can you drift for them until out target them? I don't know all the spots and this is a specices where you need to be right on top of them. Anchoring can be a pain if you need to move 10X to find them.

If anyone would like to PM me some good tog numbers in the WoodsHole/Buzzards Bay area please feel free :thanks:

With tog I would keep both hooks on the bottem,, you'll do 10 times better. Scup same thing....keep it on the bottem.

Big crabs, big baits, big tog;
not interested in filling the boat; we usually take a few fish each a day and then c&r... trophy huntin... my 15 is out there somewhere :D

Mr. Sandman 10-31-2005 06:50 PM

Had a incredible day today, probably the fastest action I have seen. I forgot how much fun it it to fish for these bull-dogs of the sea. They can steal bait faster then you can say rockpile and a 7# fish puts up an amazing fight!

snake slinger 10-31-2005 08:23 PM

years back me and my father weant toggin a lot and we had good luck with muscles

Amen Jim, Amen..
nibble nibble, whack... set... thump-thump-thump... maybe a bit of drag... get the net its a 'chin! you got a tog in da boat :D

Craig the spring inshore guys do well with softbaits; too many bait thiefs in the deeper water...
Old timers say in the spring their mouths are soft from not eating all winter...
They do love softbaits if you can keep the choggies and doggies off of them....

fish4striper 11-01-2005 11:34 AM

yeah baby

Caught a couple of big fat ones friday, man they can fight!

Be quick or else. One buried down in the rocks, had to wait him out a bit to finally get him up!

Mr. Sandman 11-01-2005 05:18 PM
