Leptar, sorry to hear of your hear of your rough outing. I hope your eye gets better soon... It could have been alot worse. I am sure fishing will not be the same with you for a while.

hulkyj61 05-22-2006 04:06 PM

Wow that sucks. Makes you think twice about going fishing alone. This is a long shot for catchin the bastards, but try Myspace, search for the high school and just start looking at profiles. My friend got his lacrosse stuff stolen and that's how they caught the kid. You may want to get a few buddies and go to the spot and just steak it out for a few weekends and see if there's any other activity, and this time arm yourself, just in case then call the cops if you see anything happening.

Skitterpop 05-22-2006 04:51 PM

1st report to police

secondly: be more aware, go with a buddy if you can, and carry 3 ft billy or aluminum bat

thirdly: batter up

If you fish Mass. at all PM me and we`ll hook up.

Feel better,
Mike

tynan19 05-22-2006 07:40 PM

Swimmer. I have been sprayed before also. I had to, to carry it. Not fun stuff to be on the receiving end. I may just get a holder for my wading belt and slip it in. I also am gonna start carrying my hand gaff.

tattoobob 05-22-2006 08:32 PM

PM me your address and I will send you a little something

staltershoal 05-22-2006 08:33 PM

leptar 05-23-2006 11:20 AM

I just want to say thank you to everyone for the support, it is greatly appreciated... Its weird how I feel now, the kindness and generosity that many of you have expressed to me has giving the strength (I could not think of another word to describe it) needed to push back that night and look onwards to tomorrow. Words will never truly express how i feel, Again Thank You.

Sincerely,
Paul

basswipe 05-23-2006 03:58 PM

Somehow I missed this thread but all I can say is WOW!!!

All I can say is I hope they fall off a rock and die a very painful lingering death.

MAC 05-23-2006 04:57 PM

First off I am glad you are ok. Things could have been worse. It does suk that there are people out there like that. The pepper spray is a good idea. Another idea is a can of bear repellent. (basically a larger can of the pepper spray that will spray further) Makes me think twice about all the late night forays by myself and even more so about leaving my other friend in the safe. PM me your address and I'll see what I can come up with for you.

BigFish 05-23-2006 04:59 PM

What goes around, comes around Basswipe! They will get theirs!

Parker650 05-23-2006 06:47 PM

The odd thing is that I wouldn't think something like that would happen around here. I wouldn't ever think of it actually. Maybe down in NJ or NYC...but not up here.

Maybe we should all get together the next couple weekend nights, split up and act like rich, vulnerable surfcasters, donned in 14k gold Van Staals, Platinum 10' surf rods and silver chains with 6" Striped Bass medallions hanging off them. I bet we could find them, or they could find us, then we could go for a 'swim'.

Seriously, does Fog Land draw any crowds or was this just random?

bloocrab 05-24-2006 01:36 AM

Fogland has always been a HOTSPOT for teenage party-goers...I'm surprised it happened this early in the school year though, normally it's more toward the end of the school year that you will find teenagers there most weekends...With the long entrance road, they have plenty of time to identify the police vehicles and hide any alcohol or drugs and just get asked to leave instead of being arrested. Surprisingly enough, the police DO make frequent visits to this area...however, with it being SO early in the out-door party season....they probably haven't included it in their "rounds" yet.

Sorry to hear about all this though, I fished that place once :faga: and know how it can be...You must have been right out front before the grass begins, that's normally where the punks do their hangin. Be careful with your other spot at the bend in the road, they ALSO party there on weekend nights...fortunately the local residents are closer to the activity so it doesn't get far.......police get called if it gets even close to loud. There's a good chance I'll be down in that area tomorrow night,,,, I'll look for any discarded evidence...they may have tossed the bags not knowing their worth....

I'd a loss my head if some kid grabbed my stick....:lossinit: ...

decksweeper 05-24-2006 07:10 AM

Leptar, just wanted to say sorry to hear about what happened...I'm new to the site and for the most part, the sport...looks like you've gotten some great advice, some of which i'm going to put to work myself. Fortunately, I've also got the buddy system working...thanks J.Sylvester...

More like the wrong place at the wrong time.

Too bad it wasn't one of those nights where the fog is so thick you can't see your feet. Lure them onto the rocks and they'd get lost :)

I wouldn't worry about fishing most places in RI...sure some random stuff happens but at night it's usually pretty quiet...and to be honest it can be creepy enough alone on the beach some nights :hee:

Sorry to hear about your fisfortune but glad to hear your ok. Gives me something else to think about. I fish alone 95% of the time and the thought of slipping on a rock and breaking a bone (even with korkers) or getting swept away by a rogue wave lingered in the back of the mind, that or having my vehicle broken into or vandalized. Now this is something else to consider. I may have to give the pepper spray some consideration, I know I wouldn't give up my stuff without a fight. That being said it's a given these hoodlums are local and this is one of their hangouts. Some recon around the same time and place of said incidence should be done to locate said PMF's, get the items back and let them know that fisherman won't stand for this crap.

Canalman 05-24-2006 07:56 AM

Leptar,

PM me we'd be willing to help you replace some of your lost goods. You choose the colors.

1 Danny
1 Popper
1 3 oz needle
1 Sleepwalker Spook

FishinRay 05-24-2006 11:44 AM

Just something to think about if people plan on purchasing cans of peppar spray. Many of the peppar spray products have metal parts, and you know what the salt likes to do with most metals...

I've got one daughter at 4yrs, and one son at 1yrs, the hand galf option is looking pretty good right now. I ALWAYS carry a blade on my chest or hip, but maybe something a little longer and intimidating might be the ticket.

The only problem is whatever you decide to use, MAKE SURE it doesn't get away from ya; or the other side will most likely want to use it back on you...:smash:

reelecstasy 05-24-2006 12:04 PM

Glad you are ok, that is what is most important. The lingering thoughts as you fish the next couple of weeks will pass.

Yep, the bore looks huge when on the wrong end.

piemma 05-24-2006 01:23 PM

What's the law in MASS? I have a license to carry in RI but not in mass. I believe I need a Mass license to carry a handgun in State. Anyone know?

PJT 05-24-2006 01:47 PM

I'm sorry that you were attacked by some dumb kids. It's a great relief that you didn't get hurt more than what you have described. Things definitely could have turned out for the worst.

I think this has been covered in another post but wasn't the concensus that the canal and areas managed under the US Army Corps of Engineers considered Federal property? I definitely know the areas around the MMA is restricted so don't even try it. I do support CCW but don't want to see anyone made into more fuel for the anti's when it comes to 'potentially restricted' areas.

Don't ask-don't tell works, but there might be that time when you're reaching for the pliers and you find yourself exposing. I'd think twice about it myself and would hate for anyone to be made an example of.

Does anyone have the 'real' information about this?

MotoXcowboy 05-24-2006 01:58 PM

I never go fishing without my fillet knife, and always have a heavy duty torque wrench and hatchet under my drivers seat...

thankfully, they have only been used to serve the purpose they were designed for..

best of luck finding those punks

I am in just the opposite scenario. I have one in MA. but not RI. I believe you can apply for a non resident permit for MA without a lot of problems since you have one in RI. It will cost you 100 bux for it and will have to be renewed every year I believe. FWW can probably elaborate on this better than I. My permit went from 25 to 100 but is good for 6 years now.

ThrowingTimber 05-24-2006 05:08 PM
