When I first started saltwater fishing I went to the canal with a Penn power stick and 6500 ss reel..I didnt know what I was doing but new enough not to cast over people. That is unacceptable! I would cut their line in an instant.

Back Beach 06-02-2006 12:19 PM

If its the greeks doing it,and it sounds like it is, just carry a slingshot and a can of unpitted olives for them next time. :nailem:

JohnR 06-02-2006 12:22 PM

Sounds like these guys need a blanket party - or a Ditch Sting :hee: Or a Ditch Sting followed up by a blanket party

clambelly 06-02-2006 12:44 PM

if you guys have a problem with the actions of the fellas you talk about, why don't you tell them? instead of slandering them on the internet, confront them with your concerns.

can you point out the so called slander to me? I didn't see anything slanderous with what Bob wrote. and yes I agree if you have a problem, take it up with them in person.

Whether the gents I referred to earlier were "the greeks" or not, my brother and I did have some words with them. Like I said, they left afterwards.

Simple coutesy is all I ask for. If they had asked first maybe things would have been different.....

Slipknot 06-02-2006 01:08 PM

clambelly, go back and read it, they DID confront them.
If you know them or are one of them, then why don't you tell them people are not going to keep putting up with that crap? I don't know which others you were talking to about speaking to them. Like I said , what is slanderous?

wheresmy50 06-02-2006 01:31 PM

[QUOTE=gone fishin]
That plug cast from the path is just as dangerous on the pick up as it is flying overhead.QUOTE]

And what are they going to do if they ge ta short strike 10 yards in front of you? I guess they'll suddenly get some restraint and not set the hook until they feel the fish? Yeah right.

Saltheart 06-02-2006 01:43 PM

You think its bad for a plugger to cast over you. Wait til a bait fisherman does it. We see it a lot at our low tide spot. fishing there for hours and some knuckle head pulls up on the bike and lays down bait and sinker right over your head. :realmad:

the canal has its share of idiots.

Bob Thomas 06-02-2006 02:44 PM

Clambelly,

They are referred to as "The Greeks" because they are greek. No one can remember their names. They run in 3's usually, on bikes most of the time. They're really not bad people. We've talked to them quite a bit....their consideration just lacks a bit. Nothing slanderous at all. Just like calling the sharpies "Canal Rats"

stiff tip 06-02-2006 03:10 PM

most agree its a classless thing to do .i agree its better to move down current 50 yds and waite for YOUR cast but that makes too much sense..20+ yrs now i,ve been a reg ,reg, canal rat ,and NO i do not cast over a mans head ,out of respect and hope that it dont happen to me....note i will if he saids its ok w/ propper cond. at the time....its no class for the head hunters that cant waite.....

basswipe 06-02-2006 04:12 PM

slander

n 1: words falsely spoken that damage the reputation of another 2: an abusive attack on a person's character or good name [syn: aspersion, calumny, defamation, denigration] v : charge falsely or with malicious intent; attack the good name and reputation of someone; "The journalists have defamed me!" "The article in the paper sullied my reputation" [syn: defame, smirch, asperse, denigrate, calumniate, smear, sully, besmirch

Clambelly...Slander?Definition is everything.

Sometimes it wouldn't hurt to research before you post.

BigFish 06-02-2006 04:45 PM

BEETLE 06-02-2006 05:08 PM

I was fortunate to have two early morning visits to the ditch Sun and Mon. - both days same spot with the same guy to my left and two different guys to my right each day. We all knew what we were doing and were considerate of each other. We all caught fish and left happy.
I did notice the some bikers come buy during brief topwater activity, but none pulled the trigger over us.
As far as these Greek guys, I'm sure that there be more people keeping an eye on them, thanks to the publicity.
If I was approached by a handful of angry fishermen, knowing the money they have shelled out to fish the Canal right and just looking to have a ?? relaxing ?? day out fishing, that would most likely change my attitude.

BigFish 06-02-2006 05:12 PM

Spence....you surf where I was fishing first....you take your life in your hands. As for boat fishermen.....you drift into my casting range and its hull bouncing time!:bl: I would never intentionally injure someone....simply making a point that you are in my zone......and deserve a little respect!:lasso:

BEETLE 06-02-2006 05:15 PM

Cutting lines or intentional entanglement is probably the best tact(s) to take, and no worries about getting sued. I'm sure that gets the point across.

Doesn't have to be intentional...even the best of us don't cast perfectly all the time  :smash:

I'm just trying to ensure any impressionable young minds don't think it's ok if BF does it :devil2:

NIB 06-02-2006 06:32 PM

If u fish at night u find u don't have that problem.
I have seen the mad biker gang, bunch of punks.
Sounds like a perfect example of everthing thats wrong with kids today. No respect. If i ever did something like that when i was young i better be prepared for a azz beating. From my old man if he found out.
I would volunteer to be there propa daddy for the day an learn em some manners.

Saltheart 06-02-2006 06:40 PM

The guy casting bait over me and Smokey was in the dead of night. You just can't avoid them all the time.

TheSpecialist 06-02-2006 09:44 PM

I am Greek and I took no offense to what Bob Thomas said. Personally I think they should be called the Malakas. If they did it to me I would stick a size 12 up their rear.

Thanks, Specialist. . . I meant no harm or "slander" by it...just how we've come to know them

tynan19 06-02-2006 10:37 PM

Man If I pissed off BigFish in the middle of the night I would be a little scared!:err: Of course I wouldn't do any thing like this so I have no worries.
