Gas prices will affect my Chrismas season, but my fishing and hunting seasons will go as planned.

I am 95% a boat fisherman. This season I find myself doing fewer trips, and watching the tides and weather for the absolute best conditions. If its iffy, and I think I have a slim shot at catching fish I stay home.
I have also slowed down in the truch driving to and from and in the boat. I try to run at the most economical speed in my boat averaging 3NMPG. I am only doing 22knots, but I still get to the fishing grounds and the tank lasts a little longer. I have been keeping my boat on the trailer down near the State ramp to save some money over slip fees for a few years. I think this year a slip would have been cheaper because I could drive an economy car to and from the slip, and just bring the truck down to haul for street gas. Oh well, maybe next year she'll be in a slip. |
It effects me I havn't even made my first trip yet :(
|
IT'S NOT
ML SR.:scatter: |
My opinoin is if you spend that much for gas you can afford it...Good luck..Wish I could...:wall:

considering most sport fish boats get between 1 and 3 mpg I would bet it effects many. I am not going boating as much this season as I am finding other things to do at home. I have a hobicat and a new home theater with a 60" high def TV which I am getting much enjoyment out of and it costs little to run. When I go fishing, I do my normal trips but it is painful to fill up. The other week I stopped putting fuel in when I reached $300 and had a ways more to go before it was full. Most sport fishing boats cost more then a grand to top off now. Some well beyond that. 300 for a CC gets me about 3 weeks of fishing so about 100/week is about my "mean" average for most of the season, add to that 3500 for dockage and probably double that for all the other misc stuff through out the year and you get the boating fiscal picture. For longer distance trips and during the derby it will probably be about 300 per week. Yes it is painful but a good day on the water is priceless. It does not effect my surfcasting significantly.
There was an interesting article in the newspaper here about a guy who went to Menemsha, took a look at the cost of a charter boat trip (400-600) and was told he could only take 2 fish. His comment was that is a lot of money for two fish and decided to fish off the dock in Menemsha with bait he purchased at the grocery store. He got several large bass, during the day, in the harbor ...one weighed in at 47# the others were 20 and 30#. Not bad considering the charter boats are not doing that good on average. You can do it on the cheap . |
yeah it effects me, the gas prices are tearing up my wallet.
|
I'm letting them slow me down a little right now but starting mid August the hell with it. I'll be fishing just as much as I want.:alien:

Fishing more this year than I have in the last 5 years. Keeping within 60 miles of home though. Mostly canal and SoCo. Outer cape doesn't exist in my mind anymore. Probably doing 3 trips/week at $40 per trip for gas and eels. Not too bad, there are worse habits.:buds:
|
Since I got the boat, it cost me a lot less to fish in the Bay than to run to SoCo. Yamaha 4 stroke is amazing on gas. I miss the pounding surf but don't miss the $22 for gas each trip.
|
Trying to save as much as possible without gas prices affecting my trips.
Pulling the boat every two weeks to fill up on the street. Figure saving about twenty bucks each time I fill. Fill the boat about ten times a season and it ads up. How are doing Frank? |
Piemma
Just wait till you launch at Oakland beach, you may sell the boat. |
I got a Prius and it has not effected me. Getting 50mpg not too shabby. I'm tired of the gas co. BS. Get a Hybrid you'll like it.
FishHawk:happy: |
stopped taking the neighbors, and freinds and family out for scenic cruises, now if i go out its for me since im paying the bill.
|
Cost me $260 in gas to make the trek to BI.Thats only using a 1/2 tank on the 7 mile long island. It's ok I saved for it.Instead of driving around looking for tackle shops. I look at gas prices.
Now my 3-4 day trips to RI are gonna be tough to rationalize. It's gonna cost roughly the same amount.I already camp out of my van an shower in the sink at the dunkin donuts. How much more money can I save. |
U fit in the sink at DD's?
|
Im just amazed when i see 60' footers at the dock filling up ,..............
