Chet there are no fish on that road anyway but would be nice to come back on if the pond opening is to deep to cross.

Story in todays New Bedford Standard-Times
|
If you look at the top picture that is the water tower to the left the opening in the wall just before it is some land we own that I use to camp on in the summer and use as my fishing base. It is a buildable lot that if we did put a house on it you would have a full 360 deg view. Anyone want to pitch a tent???? Chet you must know the spot this was Joe's land I put the opening in the wall back in 71 the last time I camped there. The water tower would be filled each morning till it overflowed thats when I would get out the soap and shampoo for my shower:D :D unless I was fishing which was the case most of the time. I was sixteen the last summer I camped here after that I found the house and my aunts cooking a far better way to stay on the island.

What is the official date? Where are we meeting to make the ride over and what's the story on the return trip. Can I assume the boat runs only until a certain time and once there, you are there for the night? Is this heavy tackle stuff, or can I plan on bringing my usual gear. Do I need waders and if so I'm I going to sweat my arse off in neoprenes? Does it make more sense to try to get hip boats or lightweights?
-Tick spray Maybe a complete list? |
Bob the date is June 15th the ferry goes over at 9:00 am and gets to the island at 10:00 or so. A one way trip is $12.75 we will have a cookout at 11:00 and start to fish after that. Some may want to go to the Cuttyhunk Fishing club to see the way it use to be done and I will walk over with anyone that wishes to. You should bring a surf stick and plugs:eek: a back pack for soda and snacks and your waders should be fine I use neopren and find they are fine. The boat makes one trip most days but I will find out if there will be two on the 15th, it comes back to NB at 3:00. The tide will be high at 12:23 am on the 16th so fishing should be good all night long then we can all get together say 10:00 or before for some breakfast and see how everyone did. Then its off to the ferry at 2:00 and back to NB at 3:00 on the 16th.

You guys will do well. I have no doubt whatsoever. I am sorry I can't join ya. I will be there in the fall.
The barges are an easy spot ( there is something left to stand on but not much) and the channel is also very productive. IMO don't overlook the northeast corner...on your chart where is says "whale rock". From the sandy beach, walk east thru the rocks till you see a gazabo...fish that cove. For me, the large haps and yozuri mag plugs clean up in that cove every night I fished it last fall. Also, you got to work the entire beach along the southwest side around to the point. Expect to do a lot of hiking. You may want to consider the following: A) A backpack B) breathable waders C) quality hiking boods D) Cell phone (the vineyard towers are reachable and a saftey whistle (incase you break you leg) E) a ATV or better yet a Helecopter with infrared cameras and sonobouys for finding fish. BTW, the place is dry...byo here are 2 pics I took last sept. the barges and a typical cove on the sw side. have fun and I look forward to reading and seeing some Large results..... |

here is what you have to look forward too...very bassy waters indeed!
|
I think I caught a fish or two from those rocks:cool: I stopped by the Cuttyhunk boat today and made res. for ten on the 15th he will hold these unless he gets other paid res.
|
Thanks GB....I'm hoping one of those spots Was for me??/....
...if they're anonymous spots.....I'll fill one in....:D ....I guess I was under the impression that all you had to do was show up and get on board.....:hs: ...silly crab!! ....Hey GB....is there a limit to what you can bring on board the ferry...I know ferry's only carry so much...  ...usually not more than their pocket book....:D |
Bloo you do not need res. but seeing that there will be at least 10-12 of us going over that day I figured it would be wise to book at least 10. I will check with him in a week and see if we are ok if it looks like it may fill up I will get paid res. but he did not think there would be any problem.

I was thinking of putting on some whiplash or fireline on my 6500 Nautil, and using it on my 10' sealine -x. I will be using eels and plugs out there. Any recommendations? I was leaning on the fireline.

weight considerations
gee, how many beers can a man on foot comfortably carry without it being obvious!:D

Greg,
If we get a (master)list of what is needed by each, as well as who's bringing what in the way of food, etc. it might lessen the organizational load that you've taken on. Delegation! Who be doing the trash? Do we take out or is there a facility? And don't fergit to bring some TP for yourselves! Been there. Is everyone doing the whole night? Any tents in case of inclement weather? Just trying to get out all the questions and figure out how I can best help the cause. Ross PS Thursday is the magic date for cured epoxy, which means I get to christen my Black Beauty by Saltheart in two days!!!!!! |
Passed thru the elizabeths yesterday....
One thing you have to look forward to are strong currents/tides. Attaced is a picture I took yesterday. I have seen these get dragged nearly under the water. I saw several guys fishing but no one doing much...still a tad early but should start have started. |

The buoy number doesn't show and there is just a bit of land and other characteristics showing in your photo but from my guess;
North side, Robinson's Hole, current running South into Vineyard Sound and photo taken from boat on wrong side if the buoy. The currents are particularly strong right now due to the Full Moon coming on for Sunday. Casting from Shore, you will feel the current from the West End but come around the corner by the cement pirymids on the beach and work that big cove. The current eddies into that cove and sometimes, like when there is a strong current, the big girls lay in that cove. After looking at the buoy and land behind it a little longer I would change my guess to Canapitsit Channel. If there is any swell running I would not want to be to much further to the N. W. of where the photo was taken from. |

Sorry for the lack of replys but a real busy week this one was and the fish have been calling me almost every night.:D Just getting ready to run out agian but will post a list this weekend of things we will need and see if anyone can bring some of it out. Yes there will be a place to get out of the rain at the house and also a tent or two. Goose had said we can use his tent and I'm sure we can dig up one or two more??? Nightfighter thanks for the offer of help and lets see everyone else's ideas on what we may need. I will be sure there is tp at the house:eek: and the trash is picked up weekly at the house so I will just leave the barrels out when we leave Sun.

Ok Bloo this is the list I have and are numbers I am going to use to plan food and drinks:
JOHN R, BLOOCRAB, SALTHEART, SMOKEY, CLAMDIGGER, MILO, SPECIALIST, SLIPKNOT, GOT STRIPERS, RED CRBBR, CHRIS L, SALTYDOG, ANTHONYN, NIGHTFIGHTER, GOOSE, DAVE S, FISH EYE? Thats 18 with me I will bring out two 12pk of pepsi and two of sprite after that you will need your own. Also going to bring out 40 hamburbers, mustard, relish, and buns. I will see about breakfast and let you know what we will do later. Will have tp,paper towels, paper plates at the house.I have made res. for at least 10 on the cuttyhunk boat for Sat at 9:00 am. I know John.Saltydog,Chris are going over on there own, That leaves 13 or 14 on the ferry or Nor-Easter charters. Please talk to each other this week so we can see who is going by ferry or Chet. We will need to make plans for parking. The elm St garage is only one block from the boat but will cost $7.00 for the night but if you all meet at one spot and maybe go in just two or three cars that would not be bad split by four or five??? The boat is$12.50 one way I will find out if he will charge for rods and gear but it use to be like .50 per bag. I will be taking most of the goods over this week and next will start up the ref. and check the stove for warming things up. Now lets hear what anyone else is planning on bringing I don,t think we need to much as you should be fishing most of the time so lets try and keep it lite. |
I can contribute a big batch of macaroni salad, maybe some paper plates, plastic forks, Ketchup. how's that? Maybe a bannana bread for breakfast?
I may carpool with GS down to Fairhaven. Not sure if I will go on ferry or noreaster. |
