Friend Pete & I hooked up for a few hours with FW/BC on their usual flat, but it wasn't happening tonight. Should have been here yesterday or aren't you ready to leave yet Bob, were the only comments :).

Pete nailed a 19 inch fluke on about the 2nd cast after just starting out on the flat, hit one of my 7 inch split tails. I nailed 2 blues right after and then 2 more further out on the flat, then it just died. Lost 2 more that I never really had hooked up well and that was it. Too bad because they hit them there good last night and the conditions were better if anything. In case you haven't heard this one enough "I guess that's why they call it fishing".

I'm still hoping for one more crack at a decent blue/flat blitz, so you might see me tomorrow, then I think it's time to start up in Scituate and hit my spots and look for mack's.

Schoolie Monster you going to be out in the boat at all this weekend? If so let me know which day, maybe we can meet up and I can get you your plastic. Owner has shipped, so I'm hoping to be restocked very soon.

Maybe its an every other day thing there and tonight will be killer. I'm hopin' 'cause like you, GS, I want to put the Cape behind me and focus locally.

It was just nice last weekend to wake up at 4:45am and be on the water by 5:30 (including gasing up the boat & car) rather than waking up at 4am to be on the water by the same time. Plus, when I was ready to be done, I was home 25 minutes later.

I'll be on the flat tonight and if I don't see you, I'll be out on the boat probably every day this weekend. I'm definitely launching Sat and Mon... hopefully fishing with John-boy sat and then some "celebrity fishing" on monday with the fiance of a family member. So I'll figure out a way to find ya... if I don't see you tonight, we'll figure it out tomorrow.

Schoolie Monster - I'm going to have to bag this weekend. Long story but the short of it is, someone's really pi$$ed...

I hope to get out locally for a few hours a couple nights over this weekend...

John, I wouldn't even know who you're talkin' about...:)

Well, I'll be available Sat/Sun if anything changes, just give me a call. June weekends are a disaster for me, but maybe we can both, ahem, bag a day and get out...

When's that msba boat tourny? We gotta get out for that... hope you have a good weekend.

JohnR 05-23-2002 01:08 PM

FW will know better than I or maybe GS if he went last night but it may not happen this year for some reason. Or it may be smaller and happen later in the year. Too early to tell - great tournament though...

Hmmm, bag in, eh?

Well I'm glad I decided to join Schoolie tonight, because altough there was a slack period after the initial flurry early on, the end of the night was a rush. We nailed some 10 blues each early one and then the slack hit and you really had to work for one here and one there, but then all H*LL broke loose right after the wind picked up from about 15 to 35. It was a fish a cast for about 1-1/2 hours or until we were just too tired. Actually I was too tired and S.M. was just too wet, man you need to wear a rain jacket at a minimum bud, you were like a fish out of water out there :). I even took a few at the tail end, because that high wind really kicked those waves up a notch or two. I had a ball tonight...too cool.

there's blues out there

You would think after last time, I would learn, but there are those that would say I'm a bit scatter brained about these things. I left straight from work so I packed the night before... I even debated stoppin' at the house to pick up my lightweight rain pullover. Traffic was brutal so I skipped it.

Bad move... it really took away from what should have been a sweet night. After taking a few waves early, I just was off and everything was a struggle. I couldn't concentrate... I felt awkward working my lure (how hard is a ballistic missile to work), awkward fighting the fish, landing them. I'm so mad at myself, that I looked thru the catalogs last night for a few of those cheapo travel pullovers to store in both of my cars and the boat.

I still had a blast, but by the end, I just wanted the heck outta Dodge. GS, maybe I'll see you out there on the water this weekend and thanks for the baits... that's going to be THE color dude. Tomorrow, am, I will be slaying fish on those on the harbor.

Also, hung around a few minutes and bs'd over a cold one with Topwater and his wife. Thanks for the brew, it helped shake off the shivers. Best of luck to them this weekend, though I doubt they will be reading this.

In closing, man, those are just cool fish...

I sure hope I can find the schools of blues this week. I really would like my wife to partake in a blitz.

kippy 05-25-2002 08:11 AM

I'd have to agree with you guys, bluefish are definitely one of the best sport fish. There's nothing like fishing a school on topwater in the summer. :D I plan on getting out this year down the Cape and chasing some schools in Dennis. I made the mistake of taking some home last year, I think I'll stick with the kippered snacks! :p
