nice I doubted anyone else listened to them.

My tastes are all over the place - from old jazz & blues to Hendrix & Floyd to Tool & Meshuggah.

On a personal note

This is an old friend from my days in drum and bugle corps (for anyone who knows what that is, Bayonne Bridgemen)

I'll second Richie Hayward of Little Feat. Maybe not the speed merchant like some others mentioned above, but he keeps their funky beat to perfection.

RIJIMMY 01-12-2007 11:53 AM

if yer talkin Jazz and mentioning Buddy Rich, you cant leave off Max Roach. Buddy was great, but dated. The bop drummers took it to a new level.

For rock, I like the guys with style, ones you can hear and intsantly know who they are. For me, JOhn Bonham and Stuart Copeland (police).

Slingah 01-12-2007 03:08 PM

Stewart Copland gets my vote too Jimmy.....original for sure...love his style....heard a rumor today the the Police are going to tour..
I saw him a couple years ago with Oysterhead as well as with the Police many moons ago...still amazing...

Bridgemen were my favorite, the most entertaining corp out there. Sister did a stint with the Blue Devils

me too ... always liked him .. another guy that does a bunch of little fills that might go un noticed ... I never followed Stink after the Police broke up... Stewart Coplands vibe did it for me ..

If you put one these polls to the best drummers in the world,( not to just the every day music fan ) Steve Gadd is the guy they all look up to
is at the top of all their list !
Hal Blaine was good in his day also !

Slammer223 01-27-2007 11:42 AM

Best drummers I've seen live :
Keith Moon--1975
Billy Cobham--several times,Mahavishnu Orchestra and Bobby and the Midnites
Corky Laing--1975
Matt Abst--2005,2006 REALLY GOOD--Government Mule's drummer
I also remember Ed Shaughnessy from the Tonight Show band, excellent.

justplugit 01-27-2007 09:10 PM

Cozy Cole-"Topsy Part Two" , haven't been able to find that solo anywhere. :(

Slipknot 01-27-2007 10:19 PM

I always wondered where this version came from:huh: I guess youtube answered me
I had this on bootleg years and years ago and always got a big kick out of it.

pmueller 01-28-2007 07:24 PM

I'll second Ginger Baker. Can't beleive he's still alive.

justplugit 01-28-2007 08:40 PM

Thanks Karl, some great memories there. If i'm not mistaken, that was Dizzy Gillespie on the horn in part 1.Part 2 had alot of Cole.

Saw a drum battle between Cole and Krupa at the Metropole in NY with both of them behind the bar so close ya could touch them. :hihi:

Good times there with all the greats, Satchmo Armstrong, Dave Brubeck, Dizzy Gillespie, Lionel Hampton to name a few. Different times, but great music. :)

ridler72 01-28-2007 09:35 PM
