Somewhere this thread went awfully wrong, should have known better than to ask........

There is plenty of evidence that plastic worms show up often in the stomachs of trout and they cannot expel them. A lot of the rubber worms are picked up from the bottom of lakes because the trout think that they are food. If they have too many in their stomachs, they can starve to death. I would support a ban on non-biodegradable plastics.

As fisherman we should try to protect what we hold most sacred. If it means losing the lead and using Tungsten then so be it. I do what I can and so should everyone else. It sounds like you are the guy who leaves his trash on the beach and keeps all his shorts. Who cares, let someone else worry about it, my selfishness is my top priority. People complain about Liberals but it is these attitudes that cause all the problems. |
If it happens, I'll have a sweat boat for sale and my golf game will be improving quickly. Well on second thought, I'll stall the sale until I fish out all my old stock and good luck to them trying to inforce that one.

No one better tell the state what we weight our plugs with.......

:fishslap:Beamie the attachements were good. If people read this I do not believe it will pass. mass wildlife would have to implement a lead exchange program. Thats nuts.

I carry a heck of a lot more trash off the beach than I carry on!!!
I bet the state would hate the Sinkers I have made out of Batteries. You can really hurl the D-Cells and the AAA's work with the light gear.. Now if they banned pink Tampon applicators the beach would be a much better place. |
I don't use plastic baits, only the biodegradable ones from Berkely. Seems to fish just as well, and is about as harmful if it falls off the hook as an apple core.
Plastic gives off some seriously nasty chemicals as it degrades, and it degrades =slooooowly=... decades, or longer. The water here in RI is dirty enough as it is, thanks. How many of you have found used and discarded plastics at your favorite fishing hole? I have. How many of you have had a fish rob your soft bait from your hook? I have. With a plastic worm, that's one hurting fish, as bad as gut-hooking it with a lure With a bio-bait worm, it's a well-fed fish. I also don't use lead weights - lead alternative weights are cheap enough these days. I don't like the idea of putting a toxic metal into the water I take fish from. There's a Japanese company that makes bio-degradable line, but it hasn't made it over here, yet. When it does, I'll be spooling up with that. I don't think this stuff is any business of the government to regulate, but I do think it's good practice in general. |
