$16/ft ? You must pay a large "fee" There is no way they can make any money on $16/ft and quite frankly with the slip prices the way they are now it sounds like a bad business decision. How can they say in business? My rate this year is $165/ft and there is a waiting list behind me if I bail.

Between the slip, insurance, maintenance and fuel I'll be looking at 12K for the season. (excluding fishing gear and bait expense) for a 23' boat. I recall the day when you could buy a new boat this size for less than that. I am seriously thinking of mothballing or selling it and playing more golf and surf casting. Either that or picking up a larger boat in a distressed sale and doing some inshore chartering but I wonder that the market will be weak as there will be a million guys chartering to support their fishing habit and fewer charters willing to pay the going rate given the fuel costs.
I really enjoyed golf and I think it is time to dust off the Mizunos.

No Jim,, the membership fee is only about 225/Yr. even the big inboards pay only about 22/foot. But I've been working along with 20-30 other guys every weekend doing repairs, new docks. electrical, plumbing etc....So they get it back in FREE labor... Still I'm not complaining (only bragging !!!) :rolleyes::rolleyes:

Just went through last year's fuel receipts, which were pretty complete. $1500.00.
So with a 30% increase, I'd say I'm looking at around $1950.00.
While I won't be taking it to Cuttyhunk this year, a couple Stellwagen trips will offset that.
On the bright side, I don't have to pay the sales tax this year, and the mooring is paid for.


Acording to the local yard, a number of folks are not putting their boats in this year.

a good friend of my fathers runs a 60?ft Hatt, and they were in Venezuela recently for a tournament, I think I heard it was 0.25/gal for diesel. then they run back to St. Thomas where it is probably 5.00+

I am looking into it. IMO it is worth it. I found a nice house on an island for 65K. No jobs to be had whatsoever down there. I could retire in a remote area/island with a big ass yacht and catch some real fish and burn a ton of fuel for next to nothing. I'd keep a small place in the US to come back to to visit during peak season here. Burn most of my gas down there.... his fuel thing is over the top. 12 cents a gallon!!?...They are probably still making money at that rate too. I'll have to vacation down there a few times to check it out. Fishing looks pretty darn good though. PS electric costs are next to nothing too. The infrastructure sucks and power can and does go out from time to time but the cost for a big place is like 50 bucks per month, a few cents per KWH. You can hire a couple of locals for 285/month too...unreal.

At $4 a gallon all, I know is one thing, my cost will be A LOT!!!!!!!!!!

and if I think about it I will get sick! If I have money to go I go, if not I don't, not going to think about it!

I have been researching how many miles to the ramp from my house and then how far to the fish by boat, also to the fish house to get rid of the fish.

By using a Maptec program I am able to plot courses on my computer, so after all the data I have found that if I change boat ramps I can save 50 miles in my truck each trip, the ride to the ramp is the same, the ride to the fish the same but I can sell my catch from the boat and then just go home saving me a 50 mile round trip at the end of the day to sell.

I am serious guys, if fuel is that cheap down there you could retire and spend 6-7 months a year there live like a friggin king and fish like a madman for nothing. 12 Cents per gallon goes a looooong way. Get an old big ass Hatteras SF and load it to the gills with fuel and fish your ass off. Come home and have your full time servants (@ $285/month) clean and prep the boat for the next day.

In the meantime, it's almost worth putting together a bootleg coop and send a barge down there and import (illegally of course) a load of fuel for our summer usage up here. Come back with a 100K gal of gas and some good drugs and it might be worth the investment.

3 extra suites?...hell for 65K each, I'd buy two places next door to each other...meet you at the dock @ daybreak.:jester:

Get tow package from Boat US, call them 2hrs prior before heading home.:D
