we have had threads on what is considered a big fish...Im gonna start a new one, so we don't derail just-in-time's thread too much..

I think the poster in question has no sense of reality (fsihing) and believes that by diminishing others catches, he gains membership into an elite class of fisherman.

You are kidding me, right? (should just hit the ignore button now...)

I, for one, would like to see some pics of your sizable fish, posted here, in a thread of your own.

For me, a 19# fish can be a big fish, when I have been fortunate to get it after catching many smaller, even sub-legal fish. It's all relative. We're not all destined to get a 50, 40, or even a 30# fish.

All this chestbeating is Bullchit. That's a nice fish. Congrats.

Biteme 06-16-2008 05:51 PM

All this chestbeating is Bullchit. That's a nice fish. Congrats. :agree:

Stewie 06-16-2008 07:07 PM

Yikes! I've been doing this for a while and a 12-15 lb fish gets me all giddy:rotf3:

especially if it has teeth

Just n time 06-16-2008 07:08 PM

By big bass I meant fish in the 25+pound cat. We were watching them all last week cruise the flats in great numbers. 100's of fish in that range is big to me and you don't see that everyday:uhuh:. If someone out there was sick of catching 50's and 60's then they should go get "bored" :bs:doing something else.

mrstriper 06-16-2008 09:18 PM

remember that this thread was about the water temps...

nice fish...and of course good times are always had on my boat
(especially when I fall overboard, or hit the console with a plug and it blows up...)

I think all the members who have fished with me at least have fun!!! and we catch some fish!!!

Mr.Striper

Just n time 06-16-2008 10:39 PM

Let's not forget to mention the excess flatus :eek:and the sound effects. That sure can raise the water temps:rotf2:.

i never said that it wasn't a Decent fish,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

just not what I would consider BIG/LAHHHHGE.
that is a sweet belly-filler, but not a big striped bass, imho.

and yes, i have caught several in that size range and 1 fish over 30#,
with this only being my third full year of surfcasting................
not chest beating, only offering my opinion. for me large does not start
until 30# and up, ask around ~~i think others would agree :uhuh: :uhuh:

while i respect your opinion, nightfighter, i will respectfully disagree
with your relativity/subjectivity interpretation of what is LAHHHGE.
my point is stated in Slingah's new Thread upon the subject.

how's yer neck these days?
still mighty finicky on the Other Cape.
hoping for some heat to provide for sum settling in up North.
seen some schoolies being caught at the Mags at first light, Sun.

Slipknot 06-17-2008 07:33 AM

Yep, always a good time on the goodskiff lollipop. Very relaxing no stress, no pressure atmosphere. Just casting plugs for fish to eat:fishin: and good times.
Warm water, cool water, dark water ,deep water, shallow water, it's all good.

you wouldn't?

well big and large are 2 different catagories according to the other thread and your reply. You said since when is a 25 lb bass big, I guess you need to change your definition you wrote yourself then. If you want to be taken seriously, you may want to be consistent with your posts. Some people are nit pickers ;)

30# - 40#;; LAHHHHGE
40# - 50#;; SLOB
50# - 60#;; TROPHY
60# - 70#;; COW
70# - 80#;; IGFA World Record
80# - 90#;; MONSTAHH
90# - 100#; FISH OF A LIFETIME

those are the goals for me, so far so good,
and i LOVE the challenge and the mindset that
is required to not settle, and TO go for sum Big Gurls.

rats to [U]big[U] bass = 28" to 30 lbs. I think 25 lbs falls in that area towards the upper end and a 25 pound bass is no slouch so if it can't be a rat, it must be big.

conclusion = 25 pound bass are big

hmmm, last time it was several over 30.....show us the pics

BassDawg 06-17-2008 05:45 PM

nitpicking WELCOMED!!!

thanks for your interest, slip

just to clarify my, and that is the key word here, my
category that seems to befuddle you,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

rats to big bass means simply that there are two ends of the spectrum within that particular classification.

imho, 28# - 30# is a big bass and not 25, 26, nor 27#.
and if you were paying attention i began the
Lahhhge category at 30#+,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,nitpick if you must,
it's only an opinion and personal goals that i've set for myself

RIJIMMY,
still crying for pix of every feesh i've ever landed???
have you got pix of ALL of yer Stripers???
this year there will be plenty to post, the wifey and i
gave ourselves the Stylus 790SW for Xmas last year :uhuh: :uhuh:.

shore hope i'll be able to fill the memory card, the fridge,
and some certified scales up around the Cape of Ann ~way :bl: :bl:
digital should at least make it more frequent, and better quality.

OK, but your question was about big bass in this thread

the one about large is slinah's thread

so in conclusion, 25 lb bass is a big bass, don't you agree now?

This fish was caught in three feet of water on ten pound test braid on a six inch sluggo, one of many that size over the last two weeks, how would you rate it as compared to cuaght on 30/50 lb braid and a sixty pound leader and a plug?

Flaptail 06-17-2008 06:33 PM

BTW my rating system has only one level for this: fun.

mrstriper 06-17-2008 06:35 PM

I would take that fun all day!!!!!!!!!!

I'd rate it as a really stupid fish if YOU caught it.

Skitterpop 06-18-2008 10:30 AM

When seeking whale oil I consider a 25 ft specimen large especially from my dory with harpoon made in Old Rochester.

pixs will give you credibility. IMHO you have none and should build some up before making the claims and statement that you do.

sorry, slip!
but that was more of a rhetorical
rather than a direct question,,,,,,,,,,

NOPE, to answer yer question!!

it takes 30# to begin to be large, and
i have a very small window for "big".

just a common and easier amount than say 35#+
as the benchmark for Large; because if you do make 35#
the cut off, then it throws everything off from a tenpound
classification system perspective.

however, in the interest of compromise and reasonable discussion,
if we were to agree on BIG as being from 25# to 35#, LAHHHGE from 35# to 50#,
TROPHY from 50# to 78.8#, IGFA from 78.9# to 95#, and MONSTAH from 95#+,
then that does allow for some more wiggle room at the bottom
and it enhances the middle and the top, as well.

simple and clean, and a little more inclusive..................

00# to 24# ~~ rats/dinks/schoolies
25# to 35# ~~ Biggs
35# to 50# ~~ Lahhhge
50# to 78# ~~ Trophy
79# to 95# ~~ IGFA
95# to ???? ~~ Monstah

and i would agree with Nebe, that anything over 50#,
is a Fish of Lifetime. very interesting opinions and thoughts, gents.
hope to be notching sum :bl: bigger :bl: ones this year, and climbing
the scale with consistent and larger catches and releases...........
