That sure is one impressive fish.

Seeing this guy is a vetern angler you would think he would have a larger set up fishing eels? Not to question it, Just amazing to reel a fish like that in on a medium sized rod.

You really can't tell a hell of a lot about how ballsy a rod is when the guy's holding it up straight.

The reel looks to be a Penn Slammer 560 in the pictures I saw. You can get plenty of 50# braid on one of them. Tony Stetzko used a Penn 650, which isn't much bigger, for his 73. And he wasn't fishing 50# test line, either. McReynolds used a Penn 710 which is about the same size as a 560 Slammer.

:kewl:Couldn't have happened to a better guy than Pete. He puts his time in and certainly gets his share. What people don't know is how generous he is, especially to the RISAA charities. Among them he has for years made signficant contributions to the "Take a City Kid Fishing" days that the club puts on. Good things should happen to good people. Congrats to Peter!!!

Yup, it is good to see something like that happen to a good guy :btu:

Karma actually works -

THAT'S AWESOME!
there was a 70 pounder taken somwhere in NY I assume, it was on the cover of The Fisherman this past week!
so with this rumored one from Orient Point, that would make three 70's taken this year????? I wonder how many seasons that has happened?
Also great to see a seasoned guy get it, not some lucky newbie that got on a charter or something.

Great fish.

I thought I remember reading that right before the last collapse there were many large fish caught - is tha correct?

Skitterpop 07-21-2008 09:54 AM

True ^^^^^

But here is hoping that that correlation does not meet todays conditions of the stock.

Rock on Striped Bass :hihi:

Congrats to Peter on a fantastic bass :musc:

Good to see big fish like that landed.

Circlehook 07-21-2008 10:42 AM

Are there as many fish being kept, or sold today as there where before the last collapse? It seems as though there is alot more awareness and preventitive measures being taken now than there where then.
