The rhetoric! Last I heard we had 2000 troops on the ground as a show of force and support for Georgia and to make sure the treaty that France helped broker is being followed. Which it's not.

There are reports that Medvedev and Putin are both giving orders to the Russian military - what a crazy country.

Personally I think the Russian troops were out of control. Professional well-trained soldiers would not loot stores and load the stuff on truck to go back to the mother land. Or maybe just Russian troops. I think thier is much to come here. Glad I read all the post. Learned quite a lot about the prequil.

Thugs, a bunch of bleeping thugs. From the top ~ Putin ~ down. What a sad, sad crew of people. And to think so many people idolize(d) them. And just to further eff things up they'll set their thug juniors loose.

The schoolyard bully has kicked around a not too close but new friend that we told not to take the bait, but he is a friend nonetheless. If the bully keeps kicking this friend when he's down we need to decide if we'll break it up which will lead to the possibility we're in the fight too.

Spence, yep - rhetoric. Not too much we could do militarily there without the OK from Turkey anyway (not that moi is advocating a kill 'em all and let god sort 'em out). But something needs to be figured out or who is next in line? Russia wants something and they've been flexing their muscles a bit for a while. We're still the class if the schoolyard.

Russia is flexing new muscle built on oil revenues and not much more. I'm of the opinion that they are testing the West and we should be standing up pretty tall in this matter. I can't believe it took the Admin this long to formulate a position.

Hell, we invaded Iraq on less evidence. I'm not saying we should use military force, but we basically let this happen the past week without as much as a peep. Not good form, and it's clear they've realized their mistake.

This article is considered pretty accurate (i.e. low bias) on how things kicked off over there: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...1700211&s_pos=
