I only chide you over plugs because I don't know how else to manage my fear. Coming clean actually feels pretty good. I'm a %$%$%$%$ing chicken....aaaaaaaaaaahhh.

This wetsuit thing though, it should be interesting.

Crush the barbs. It's inevitable your going to get hooked or slashed. At my height I wade deeper than most and am always unhooking fish in the dark at waist deep or deeper still.

Pain is temporary, pride is forever. Plug fishing at night while wading 50 yards from shore is not for the feint of heart.

If Flaptail takes you up to the cape tip some night, you can try all three on the front.

Its amazing how relaxed not having to worry about waders a wetsuit makes you! I also felt alot more confident out there!:uhuh:

Relaxed and Confident= Better Concentration

Question for you wetsuiters if ya don't mind. While wearing that thing are your feet staying wet the whole time ? One of the only drawbacks I can see at this point is wet swamp foot unless there's a dry boot/dry sock worn I can't see having wet feet for hours at a time.

Wondered that too ... also Larry ,, Did you change out in the street or drive home in it ?

BigFish 09-02-2008 05:36 PM

Adam...sure can't be worse than a sweaty wader boot for 12 hours straight? Feet are wet....its a wet suit! It was awesome....and your feet are wet and clean not sweaty and smelly! I wore my Lycra shorts under my denim shorts, drove to my spot, put the suit on....takes less time than waders for cryin' out loud.......fished and then when I was done I just removed the suit, left the Lycra shorts on and put my denim shorts on and a t-shirt and sandals and drove home!:)

while i am also very close to joining
the wet suit brigade; my biggest drawback

is the higher tax bracket i'll have to join to
reach those oh so desirable SPOTS that can
only be GOT ten 2 by swimming there and
still be able to call yerself a surfcaster!!!

trouble is if YOU swim there so doesn't the reel have to be able to swim with you.
VS 275 would be my choice, then i gotts ta have a GS Loomis to pair with the reel,
fins, a summer wetsuit, then the special boots, a surf belt that swims(vs pliers,
surfbag for the drygoods, hunter plugs bag) then the boga, a scuba knife,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
what's that BB ~~about 1,000 to 1500 for ALL the bells and whistles??
sounds about right, to do IT right!!

there IS onehelluvalot to be said for the ability to reach those unreachables, be safe when the rogue calls yer name, and being able to piss while fishing :heybaby: :heybaby: :heybaby: if i lived in Aquidneck Country it would already be a done deal!! there's just toooo many swimmable spots that would FORCE me to take the plunge.

*plus all that cool gear and the suit makes you look like 007
on a covert mission to slay sum BIG arsed STRIPERS..............*

I looked more like Mr. Incredible than 007!:jump:

BigFish 09-02-2008 07:31 PM

You are right though BD....all those other things are on my list! I have had VS Pliers for awhile and while I am not thrilled about spending $800.00 on a fishing reel.....its a must! For now I am using the cheap Spheros I have due to lack of funds at the moment! A good friend gave me a pretty sweet Ocean Master dive knife! New boots are on the way...used my felt bottom wader boots last night! You are right...its an expensive switch!

Going tonight Larry wish you lived closer.

MotoXcowboy 09-02-2008 08:00 PM

Nice Larry!

The idea of fishing in a wetsuit seems pretty sweet..being able to get to those spots you need to swim to. Id dive into the wetsuit game but dont have the cash for the rest of the stuff..(well mainly the VS) the other thing is I surf too, but can only stay wet for so long till my feet turn into raisins..Id rather be dry.
in my tin boat :)
To each his own..
Best of luck this fall, and be safe out there in the wetsuits guys.

oh yeah, dont forget to hose em out when ya get home too ;)

5 String Bass 09-02-2008 08:09 PM

Nice fish, Larry. Best of luck with the wetsuit. I think they will play a larger and larger role in surf fishing in the future. Reel manufacturers need to up the anti a bit and begin compete with VS and ZB and make affordable dunkable reels. I have to think that this is not far away, given the kind of technology that is available.

hyefisherman2 09-04-2008 05:58 PM

nice way to break in the suit larry ;)
