More shows with fishing legends showing their favorite techniques.

beaver 03-01-2009 06:48 PM

A few things to consider are the facts that...
a. filming a night is not the easiest task
b. don't want to give away too many spots, thats why boat fishing shows seem more popular
c. they are trying to reach everyone's fishing needs
d. IT AIN'T FREE... and this economy isn't helping. TV time isn't cheap and I'm sure OTW needs some sponsorship dough to get their shows on the air. They can film a bazillion tv shows all over New England, but if they can't afford to air them then its useless.

I hope they can get some more shows, particularly surf fishing with reputable anglers like they did with steve mckenna and mike laptew a few years back. I'd like to see a show on the outer cape beaches. I feel like you could preserve the specific location and just focus on the water.

CaptMike 03-01-2009 06:57 PM

I'd really like to see more fly fishing but I think it's probably fine th way it is. I think it's the best new england fishing show, although the bar's not very high. If anyone's interested I'd be willing to host a show!!

ProfessorM 03-01-2009 08:20 PM

I almost had a stroke when I saw them at my favorite area one very early morning as I drove by in my boat. Nutin ever came of it i guess, thank god.

WoodyCT 03-01-2009 08:40 PM

Personally I hope they don't do exposes no shore spots. We are already under attack from can tossing, line crossing, parking lot pissing idiots.

MAKAI 03-01-2009 09:01 PM

once you have a clue do you really need a fishing mag or show? It's like baseball, fun to play, BORING to watch.:yawn::yawn:

ivanputski 03-01-2009 10:28 PM

Show topic: "how-to properly confront & persuade Porgy fisherman to pick up their &^#*@!% trash without losing your temper and getting into a fist fight"

Clogston29 03-02-2009 08:19 AM

cancel it

Ehhh. Not sure on that as a few here and their are entertaining. I don't watch too many anymore as I don't have the spare time to watch fishing shows, but there are some that get the juices flowing...

CaptMike 03-02-2009 10:58 AM

Yeah I enjoy watching them. I don't really try to learn anything from them it's just for entertainment.

bassballer 03-02-2009 11:09 AM

I took it off the DVR. Same episodes every week.

2 Favorite episodes over the years though,

1. steve's surf fishing with sluggos

2. cuttyhunk surfishing

RIJIMMY 03-02-2009 05:36 PM

so I guess the question should be, when does the new season start? Its March already and the winter was all re-runs.

If you're bored watching baseball, you're not watching close enough.

RNC 03-02-2009 10:30 PM

maybe they should fish with some colored folks...:eek5:

BigFish 03-02-2009 10:40 PM

I like the show and think the crew of OTW do a great job but some diversity is in order to keep it fresh.....it is too much of the same stuff! As far as repeats go I have seen the "Cinto" episode about 40 times and not seen the McKenna show even once??!

Nebe 03-02-2009 11:06 PM

how about a documentary on poaching? how to do it, where to sell it.. how to keep it a secret... how not to get caught. That would be interesting wouldnt it?

I have played enough to know what it is about. It's one thing to be on the field, another to watch it on t.v. You have to admit most games are not close, well pitched, with clutch hitting affairs. My bigger point was watching some guy catch a few 10 to 20 pound fish isn't the same as catching them yourself, hopefully much bigger. Now i will watch fishing I never get to do, like rooster fish in the surf or big G.T.'s on poppers.

Joe 03-03-2009 08:17 AM

Catch enough 20# fish and that gets boring too.

Joe 03-03-2009 08:22 AM

Set up a big ramp, get a live 20ft Great White in a cage, and then have an episode where Flaptail jumps it in his skiff.

Sea Flat 03-03-2009 08:39 AM

In general I really like the show. Yes, I am sick of the episodes, but I am pretty sure that there will be some new episodes out in a little while.

Surf casting shows will have major implications in spot burning and unless they do it at night, which is difficult, I think they probably will not. I did hear that they were filming a little during the day down at the canal during the infamous mackerel blitz. I will be curious to see how they filmed it because the spot they were fishing is a little off the beaten path with not a lot of access.

Been there, done that. Didn't generate any interest on thier part. I am now trying to sell the idea to a travelling Bosnian amateur circus troupe for this coming summer. Only problem is they want to pay me in potatoes and cabbages.

Oh yeah, another thing. They think it would be more believable to eastern europeans if I changed the great white to a Sturgeon.

ridler72 03-03-2009 07:45 PM

I totally agree with others. It's not just OTW it's the other New England Based shows as well. It's all of em. I pretty much gave up for now. I enjoy my sports pack. I watch fishing shows from all over the country and the same ones can get boring too.

The highlight for my off season TV watching has been the independent video, Reel People Fisherman of Plum Island. What a benefit it would be for us and future generations to have a video library on the entire history of Striped Bass and it's presence in New England. Fish stories, beach buggy stories, kayak stories, Plug making, plastics, manufactures, anything and anybody. If it can't be done now.........when is a good time?

But lets be honest in another month or two we will be all on our own quests for glory.

Looking forward to MSBA show!

westhavendave 03-03-2009 10:29 PM

I know they filmed an episode of yakfishing Block Island with some friends of mine, don't know if it made it out of the can yet.

I know they filmed the episode with Bill and Jim White fishing bunker. I was withing 50 feet of them in my boat. It probably didn't air as that morning was absolutely pee soup fog and I imagine the quality of the film was less than optimal. They did get a ton of good fish up to the mid 30# but the fog was brutal.

There was a crazy public access show a while ago on surfcasting - the guys were from Charlestown, RI....It was very whacky, I liked it.

funny that you should mention that, as
i've been considering filming me nephews at a coupla spots,
at night, slinging snakes into sum feeshy suds, documentary style~~~

problem is i only have a home version minicam and it would prolly
be very "Cloverfieldesque". i'm still gonna give it a shot, for our own
viewing and rememberance pleasures, but NOT at the risk of burning me HH.

does anyone know where i can pick-up sum "night film"?
