Tat - I'm going to see if any of my old links from last year has something on that. I remember a couple places that had steel mesh & nylon mesh nets / traps...

Check with any of the local comm fish supply places?

sounds like we need to have a eel trap class? I have the one Mike gave me last year and it works great. They would be very easy to make and Katchum traps in NB has all the gear you need to make them.

in massachusetts do you need a license?

hooked 01-28-2003 11:08 PM

The 2003 regs are not posted yet. Here's the info from last year.

http://www.state.ma.us/dfwele/dmf/re.../rec_index.htm

Recreational Finfish and Shellfish Restrictions for 2002
Species Min. Size Open Season Possession Limit
American Eel 6" all year 50 fish

The Comm regs had the following note:

(1) Subject to regulation by the Division and local community. Consult local regulations.

I'm planning on doing the same thing up on the Merrimack.
