I witnessed those Killer attacks in CC Bay around that time. Boy were those some splashes!

I saw a documentary on this a few years back.
I believe that the documentary stated once the orca had their fill of the seals, they would 'play' with one last one, then often toss it into the air and leave. Scientists were baffled as to why.
