Saltheart - that's why we're having this discussion :hihi:

fishsmith 02-06-2003 11:47 AM

I'd love to win the charter trip, but that is a prize I think everyone wants, so make the most money you can with it, have a seperate raffe for the charter and a dollar amount you'd like to reach (maybe the going rate for his charters), and a date so it doesn't hang around forever.
On another subject, I don't think I'm going to be able to dig enough clams for 84 people, I'll try but I don't want to get anyones hopes up either, instead I'll bring some Sunday football crock pot concoction, kielbasa/beans/pineapple, hopefully both. I'll make up for it with buying raffle tickets and I'll bring some stuff for the MSBA Striper Swipers.

Is anyone else having a hard time convincing the wife, that this night out is their valentines day gift?

Bliz 02-06-2003 11:53 AM

You're a brave soul Fishsmith!:laughs:

JohnR 02-06-2003 12:01 PM

No prob Fishsmith!

As for getting the maximum dollar for the trip, we do want to get a reasonable amount for it but I don't want to send anyone to the poor house (just keep me out of it :hihi: )

Jenn 02-06-2003 12:35 PM

want to apologize for any overreaction on my part......

and the valentines thing....woo hoo....were gonna get a room for the night!!!! I had no problems convincing the hubby!;)

Slipknot 02-06-2003 12:47 PM

Nice post Saltheart

Bliz 02-06-2003 12:48 PM

Good Job Jen!

Now, could you talk with my wife?...

I cannot get her to budge toward a night out!

alr 02-06-2003 01:56 PM

I'm one of the new kids on the block and as such I haven't said (contributed) a whole lot to this site so it is w/ the upmost respect to the oldtimers :D and frequent contributors that I'd like to add my great big $.02.
If you look at the first couple of post back in Jan. when this started I think you will find that original goals of this night out are pretty well laid out by GB & John.
As far as raffles, door prizes, auctions etc. for gifts it seems to me that everyones opinion should be heard especially the organizers but the bottom line is that John should have the final say. It's his sandbox and without his time and initiative we frankly would not be here.
That being said I personally like raffles over auctions simply because everyone has a fairly equal chance of winning and not the guy w/ the deepest pocket.
This is all for fun, and to provide a little help to keep this site going, so cheer up folks. Days are getting longer and soon the water temp. will warm up and we all know where that leads up to!!!

JohnR 02-06-2003 01:59 PM

ALR :D

Actually - no auctions, just chances. The question is how to handle the chances... I love nice lively debate :hihi:

Bliz 02-06-2003 02:07 PM

Do we have a verdict?....:D

schoolie monster 02-06-2003 02:47 PM

I think this part of the debate is over, but as someone who knows the kind of time and money that our administrator has put in, proceeds should go to the site. The money will go back into the site for all of our benefit. End of story.

As for when and where? It seems to me that these prizes will add to what looks to be a fantastic night for everyone to get together. Reward those that are going and helping make it that way... IMO, the prizes should be for the party.

And I doubt I'm going, so that's a completely objective opinion.

I pretty much missed alot of this stuff, but I am amazed at all the good will from people donating time, prizes, bringing food, etc... pretty f'n special group.

I'm disappointed that I'll likely miss out, but hopefully this will be the first of many SB.com winter get-togethers. Have a great time.

chris L 02-06-2003 03:00 PM

Have the raffle as the general variety like Saltyhearty said .
Who you calling oldtimer Son ? ;)

Jenn
Me and my Woman have a room across the street at the Holiday inn . Happy Valentines day Honey !
Did I mention how long its been .................................................. ... That me and my wife have been out together .

To cross the street from the VFW to Holiday Inn is there a divided highway or can I crawl across the street ? Did I mention how long its been since me and my wife .......................................... Drank together ?

I will have 4 liters of soda ( 2 sprite 2 coke ) .

Van 02-06-2003 03:18 PM

What was the question again !!!!!!:laughs:

IMHO

All prizes general raffle.

Grand prizes are drawn last.

Limited to attendees of the night out.

Oh yea, and I win it all !!!!!:smash:

mrmacey 02-06-2003 03:58 PM

every thing at the

PARTY

bloocrab 02-06-2003 04:04 PM

I hear ya again Mr.Macey......

...if someone wants to donate......they can donate, and that would be just great.

but if you want prizes - fun - excitement - live fishtalk - see ChrisL live and uncaged!!! .....ATTEND THE PARTY!

If the raffle/prizes..whatever the hell you end up calling it, are done on the site......any Tom #^&#^&#^&#^& or Harry can send in a few bucks...and win. I'd like to think this is little more than just about $$$$$$$$$$

I probably still won't be attending, but it seems the FUN is being SUCKED right out of this....:smash:

chris L 02-06-2003 04:16 PM

LMAO at Bloo !
You so funny !!
let the dog loose !
stop by for a couple hours anyway .
I can hammer the closet ATM .

TheSpecialist 02-06-2003 05:11 PM

Guys my reasoning behind my post was :

1. The general raffle items can be like $1.00 for 3 tickets, or $5.00 for 10 This would raise some cash.

2. A separate raffle for the larger prizes of the charter, and Bloo's pic. These tickets would be for a substantial prize. Maybe $10.00 each or 3/ $20.00 I threw $20.00 out there as an example because these are substantial prizes. This would generate much more money, and be fairer to the individuals that don't have deep pockets. This also allows EVERYONE to participate.

If we decide to go auction please let me know in advance, as I will have to find some partners in crime.

BEETLE 02-06-2003 05:33 PM

hello fellow S/B . commer's

Bloo - Sorry to jump on ya a bit - I guess i'm as passionate about the tourny as JohnR is about this site. I had just got done dealing with my PC being all botched up - finally logged on, and then saw all the MSBA tourn. stuff on this thread - I'm working hard for the tournament to go smooth, be the best yet, and everyone satisfied and have fun, at the end of it all.

I forgot to mention last night, that I also would like these items exclusive for this site. I have been into this site for about a year now, and have gotten a great deal from it, in more ways than one.

I am looking very forward to meeting some of you on the 15th.

Thats a good thing Mike , pg site and all !
got cuffs ! ;)

STRIPER77 02-06-2003 09:15 PM

Don't Miss the Boat

With 3 pages--I could only scan--But it seems party enthusiasm is gonna lighten John's (striped-Bass) wallet. Yeah, sure keep most of the raffle stuff for those that attend------But it would seem that with 800 members, enough stuff to draw interest should be available to on-line donors(ticket buyers). Getting the most money from more people would seem the best way to help fund the site. I have to work that night, others have to work, for many that's a LONG haul, etc. etc. Hope this offends no-one. Just trying to help John maximize the opportunity.:bgi:

mrmacey 02-06-2003 09:44 PM

i feel

pepole showed there support with rod raffle how many pepole actually showed support for that nice rod what was it 25, 30 pepole out of 900!! that was for the site! not to many responses!! going back over the begining threads here all these prizes were donated to make this an awsome party so it should be kept that way only my opinion!! some pepole are driving from distances and getting rooms now they want to be there!! whatever the decision lets have an awsome time!!

Jenn 02-07-2003 12:19 AM

chris...yes was planning on the holiday inn (and we will just let clammer think what he wants because he a pervert anyway!!!;) )

as far as convincing the wife....you gotta be creative....start off with something valetines-ish and see if you can slither a fishing related event in the mix!!!;)

chris L 02-07-2003 09:45 AM

"convincing the wife" ? Shes been looking forward to it as long as I have . 19 years of marriage and I dont have to convince her of anything . I just ask !
We dont do the Valentines day thing never have . We show each other everyday what we mean to each other . I just wish she'd stop hitting me with the frying pan to wake me up ! Its starting to leave a mark ! hahahahhaahahahahaaha

chris L 02-07-2003 01:04 PM

I thought it was for someone else with the space between the replies . But I got a lot of ammo with that .

A frying pan is round and hard and they use them to cook your food in the restaurants you go to for dinner .
