Lurking since the earliest of days and finally registering in October 2001. Many have posted more times than I have but few have contributed more images...and it has been my pleasure to share my underwater seascapes with fellow S-B viewers, as well as a few humorous images.

I remember when the flame wars were pretty hot and heavy and spot burning was deemed punishable by digital death and banishment. That's when I posted a chart of all the best shore fishing spots in RI with "X" clearly marking these secrets spots. Those who viewed the map knew it was the real thing -- I had given up some of their super secret, personal honey holes.

One of the moderators quickly deleted the chart and I was chastised before I had a chance to post the "punch line" to my joke. If anyone had taken the time to look carefully, they would have noticed that I simply put an X everywhere intersecting loran lines met the shoreline -- not very scientific, but it did nail a few quality spots. My point was that throwing a dart can sometimes yield better results than trying to decipher someone's cryptic post and that if you just get out there and FISH and WALK and FISH and WALK some more, YOU WILL BE REWARDED.

Thanks to a great core group of contributors, moderators and of course John Redmond, this site has always been a downright friendly digital neighborhood for social networking with people who love striped bass, and as my grandfather would say, "Chewing the fat." Here's to the next 10 years.

I stumbled upon this place I think in dec 2000 sometime after fishing yet another fall on BI I felt hollow in December and I was sniffing around the web looking for local SB addicts to commiserate with. I had moved to back up north to RI in 99 and was still doing a lot of surf fishing but most of the guys I knew were not fishing the beach much due to age, health and physical limitations and few had computers. I found sb.com and it seemed like this was the kind of local site I was seeking. It was a lot different then not a lot of members. There was a problem with my name at one point and I had to re-register and I think that is why it says 2001 now.

I have visited all the other sites but for some reason I prefer this one. Even when it gets a little hostile, I still prefer it over the others. Also I think JR should be commended for keeping it as non-commercial as he has. Further, I thought the first TFCTFN I went to when I met a lot of the people I have only posted messages to was really a lot of fun and something a little special.
This is a good group of people even if we all don't agree on everything... I hope it stays like this but it will probably change like everything else.

Happy Holidays SB.com'ers

June 22 2004. For some reason i thought it was longer than that. This place is like an online home, its always the first place i check when i log on. Im not ashamed of saying that the internet helped me a lot when it comes to fishin, and this place takes all the credit, and blame for the absurd amount of money i have spent over the past 5+ years since i joined this happy bunch of idiots.

I have to post then look at the date and edit. I don't live in the area but I look at this site all the time. I just moved from Long Island to South Carolina but I will still spend most of my internet time on the sites from the north east.

Now, what is that date ?............ah 2003

BigBo 12-17-2009 09:51 AM

Seven years, but I was a lurker for a year or so before that. I've gone back to lurker mode. I've learned a lot from this site and made some good friends. :uhuh:

I can't prove it but I'll swear my first post was the first ever on this site under John R's. I think some URL change or rename somehow right at the beginning then got #^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&'s name in front of mine . :)

But anyway , it is surprising how fast 10 years went by. Probably be surprising how fast the next 10 go by.

I have been here 8+ and have met some fine people on here, learned alot too.
