Here is a shock... Block man hands down any time of year.. why cause if there aint no fish to be caught there is always a place to get some wamring beverage and chase some other kind of 2 leged fish.... lmao
|
Another thing Block has that cuttyhunk doesnt have is a vast salt pond ecosystem with lots of shallows to get things started early out there... At Cuttyhunk, your depending on migratory fish coming in from where ever, but at the block in the spring, there is bait in places that will hold fish- Squid, sand eels, spearing... its all in that pond. So many rush out to the beaches to fish in the spring looking for fish and dont take into consideration that there is some serious activity going on in that salt pond.
or at least thats my theory. :grins: |
Not that this affects surfcasters and other fishermen, but I've read that authorities are already planning measures to curb the baccanalian frenzy common on the Block, especially during summer holiday weekends. This will also includes mainland police who will be watching those who have gotten off the ferry drive out of town.

Islander, how many police officers do they have out there in the summer these days? Back in the day they had maybe 5 in the summer - 2 staties and 3 locals including the chief. Now they have something like what, 15? And they need more. |
I did read some stuff last summer that pertained to certain watering holes on island as well as the commotion on the ferry. While I can't recall the source, the crackdown info is more current (maybe the Narragansett Times). The BI police expect reinforcements this summer around July 4th, for example.

As much as I love to fish Cutty, (and I have been there all by my loansome for a couple of days) I'm thinking the second week might start to look like The Shining.

Hey Joe how 've you been [mike -massapequa]
Thats part of the alure -solitude up the ying -yang ...FISH ,READ ,FISH ,SLEEP ,FISH, TALK[TO YOURSELF] ,FISH. I'm into the Thoreau thing :rotf2: |
Mark summer time I think its 15-25 seasonal but when you consider the sheer number of people daily there its a lil understaffed in reality.. 30k plus peole a day in summer on a sliver of land 3 miles wide at widest and 7 miles long from farthest to farthest lol....I think its more the Vegas-esqe rep of the Island now a days ya take poeple 14 miles off shore to an Island and they think they can act a fool so...
|
The whole "Why I went to the woods," thing is overstated...Thoreau's sister would bring meals out to his hut at Walden. Not knowing what's for dinner and seeing a woman once in a while is more variety than you'll find at Cutty.
|
Block heats up earlier, but Cutty in the fall is killer. If I were trapped on Cutty for over a week I would just keep swimming until I hit the Block.
|
OK cutty is safe ...till the fall
Block sounds worse than montauk ,but thats after july 4th I'm sure . Hey maybe I'll hit R.I. again ...Rhody's are very friendly :) |
