When you sign up for the cup you can enter surf, boat or both. If you enter just one category you can only weigh fish caught that way. If you enter both, when you weigh your fish there is a spot on the form to indicate shore or boat.

I think this will be a good season. And see no reason why we cant win this year. LAst year was an off season for large fish for me but as far as quantity the best, and the season before like a knuckle head i didnt to the cup. I will make a plea to a buddy of mine who i have a lot of confidence in.

Sea Dangles 03-26-2010 06:29 AM

Well, now that Bradshaw has been exonerated it looks like he will be back in the fold.

Also some Crazy fishermen from Long Island.........surf division anglers help immensely!!

piemma 03-26-2010 06:32 AM

You guys really are getting excited about this thing!

Last time I got excited there were a pair of 38Ds in front of me.

Whatever floats your boat.

I know this won't be a popular post here but I do hate tournaments such as this. Unless the tournament is strictly catch and release with penalties against killed fish then these things have the potential to bring out the worst in some. I know there are many fine fishermen and people on this site and others that participate in this tournament and others. And not everyone will abandon their principles for the sake of a tournament. But some do. And in a time when the viability of the stock is in doubt as to it's future then perhaps it may be best to forego the tournaments and just fish for the enjoyment.

I am fairly new to this and so perhaps I take a different view than some and this post is not intended to piss any one off. We all have the right to enjoy fishing in a manner that pleases ourselves and so long as it's within the laws then so be it. But please consider your actions and don't let things get out of hand.

I do believe that one of your own that has passed away recently was dead set against tournaments. I know it's a personal choice and for that reason I won't participate in any tournament unless it's strictly catch and release. But that's my choice. If you choose to kill every fish you catch then that's your choice. I just hope you won't and will consider more important things than stroking your ego or winning a tournament. Not saying that's why you all do it. Many times it's just the comaraderie that comes along with it and that part is great. Let's just be careful out there and not get too carried away.

Are there really teams that get paid to fish in a tournament like this?

JohnR 03-26-2010 07:21 AM

DR - I understand your sentiment. If ASMFC considers S-B in trouble, we will certainly revisit this. They don't. We need numbers.

As for the tournament, 95% of us are 99% Catch & Release. I don't think the net effect of this tournament is greater than 2-3 hot days days at any prime spot: Scortons, Providence, Canal, Jersey Beach, Block, etc...

Last year there were over 3000 anglers entered and on average, fewer than 30 fish per week were weighed in. (from On The Water April 2010)

That doesn't seem that bad to me.

Me too, its the biggest reason I fish in this thing aside from the the cameraderie and funny %$%$%$%$ that happens.

Fact is there's 4-5 really good teams with a shot at victory, ours included.

I hear there's a guy on Team Real Deal with a funny green bike and an even funnier green rod...:hee:

I tried my best to recruit him for S-B but he wouldn't budge...gotta admire his loyalty.

this is freakin unreal to me. I assume it's tackle and boat companies sponsoring these guys and paying out these absurd amounts? Seems pretty dumb to me if it's done on the sly like this, why not just go all the way and call it "Team Daiwa or Shimano" or whatever....

John these guys here are not the white bucket gang you need to worry about keeping all of the fish they catch. They are top notch fisherman. They do not kill all the fish they catch in fact I don't think anyone will be weighing fish in under 35lbs for the cup. Preaching is for church or maybe the political foum. :uhuh:

You should see the graphics job on the new Fountains, yes plural, they just scored to help win the Cup!

Sea Flat 03-26-2010 11:48 AM

I sign up for the Striper Cup every year. I have never weighed in a fish. Mainly because I have caught a few 30+# fish, but nothing over 40# and not worth killing because it was not like I was going to win a weekly or monthly prize from them.

I mainly fish the Elizabeth Islands off of my 19' Seasworl Striper CC out of Fiddlers Cove in Falmouth. If you feel like I would truly be an asset to the team then I would be more than happy to. I usually fish a few times a week during the summer, but in the spring and fall I am quite busy. Not sure I would put in the time that most of you serious guys would put in. PM me if you want me to join the team.

Swimmer 03-26-2010 12:49 PM

Go s-b.com Go

I'm in again this year.
