I’m entering both this season but will probably spend more time fishing from shore than from the boat or kayak.

Paul, lemme go back over the 2 other threads and see if anyone specified boat or shore.

PRBuzz 04-03-2010 06:03 PM

I'm boat only! Not that I'm likely to weigh in anything.......

Dad 818 04-03-2010 06:36 PM

Broke down the roster to SHORE, BOAT, or BOTH. PM'd everyone on the roster to find out which method they are doing. Hope this helps.

This year prediction, At least 530lbs to win the cup...... Alot of teams have been strengthened substantially, its gonna be a tough competitive 5 month run! Best of Luck to All!

I'll throw this out there, and it is not accussatory, but the idea of a club w/ ~hundreds~ of members who have no idea of who their members are(personally or at all) having signed up, and some in both divisions does raise some thoughts.......

I was inquiring about membership numbers on clubs this week... As of yet I have still to get them... I am curious as to membership numbers on some of the larger clubs...

Could be, but it all depends on what's available on any given year.

As it has happened once in my lifetime, the real big fish suddenly vanish from our catches, either dead from old age or other causes.

Lets hope you're right though as 530# sounds like a good estimate and it would require a good distribution of big fish for this to happen.

Back Beach 04-04-2010 06:32 AM

double, sorry

Which club are you referring to? To me its a fun tournament and I could care less if a club has 5 or 500. The club portion of the striper cup is simply for bragging rights only, no $$ involved.

Its the big $$ prizes some people will most certainly be cheating at in order to win. When you consider its a coastwide tournament and there's countless weigh stations with obvious disparities between all of them, it just opens the doors for bad behavior.

Look at the Vineyard Derby for example...there's what, 2 weigh stations and any leading fish is dissected and checked for alterations before going on the leader board. Still, people cheat and get busted at the MV Derby even though they're under a microscope....how do you think the striper cup will fare with regard to quality control? The possibilities for abuse are endless.

If I remember correctly, it was one of the smaller clubs (15-20 guys) of "professional" fishermen who had a team member busted for poaching. So much for club size.

Just in case Sea Dangles thinks I'm changing my mind, I'd like to remind him I'm still in and look forward to the tournament...

Ditto Paul, some giants out there where you tube.

JohnR 04-04-2010 08:36 AM

Come on in Paul  !

As for Team Size some larger teams will have lot of people that are not out fishing all the time. Some small teams will be 8-10 guys fishing commercially 5 days a week. Where is the advantage? How do you quantify where the advantage is?

People have been complaining about advantages and disadvantages since the striper cup started and they have been changing the rules almost every year to accomidate some of that. The way I look at it, Play by their rules... If your serious about winning the cup create a well balanced team with guys that fish hard, love fishing, and want to win! You have to diversify Shore, Boat, Commercial, Recreational. Also cover as much of the striper coast because you never know where good bodies of big fish will show.... Numbers do help... Not many teams want to win as bad as Team Striper, they did alot of the above and that's what it takes to win... Luck takes you only so far... Best of luck to all!

the above was totally tic and for the FUUUUN of Team Competition.
whatever it is,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,it is still fishing, there is a CUP to be had, and why
shouldn't WE put our best anglers forward??? ALL teams recruit their contestants.
