Plenty of morons out there. I had a guy cut me off 4 times in 15 min. Then he yelled at me!

Well said !
This guy with only 20 something starts a tread "come on people" & "share the love"
Another guy with only 6 post wants to yap about pogies and where they are in the harbor !
The harbor is loaded with enough nitwits now, only going to get worse !
Outch!..Only 20 posts?...Hmmm...I must have missed the rule that states you need 1000 posts about absolute nonsense before you can talk fishing. Sorry if I offended one "elite" member of this board. I guess I'm not worthy (yet?).

Last time I checked this was a boat fishing forum. I'll bet 99% of the folks that visit here look for tips on where and when to fish...so what's the big deal?

This thing about spot-burning is a bunch of nonsense. Fish move around from day to day and every day is different. If you find a spot with big numbers...guess what...unless it's a weekday, chances are you're gonna have company. Get over it. Anyone with a radio, cell phone, a good pair of binoculars and knows what a flock of birds means, will be joining you. It's not about finding fish... it's about how you behave around your fellow anglers when they are found. Privates want to catch fish and charter's want happy clients. Everyone needs their space...charter's need more space. I can respect that. There is always going to be "nitwits." You just need to be patient and deal with it. Since there are probably more "rookie nitwits" like myself visiting here perhaps a little education on fishing etiquette from some of the "elite" members might go a long way. Whatdya think R.R.?

Scutterbutt,

I'm sorry if any offense was taken from my post, as there was none intended. My point was that, just like in any area of life, a crowd always has its share of idiots.

While I am anything but well seasoned at fishing or "elite", the little personal experience I have is that people boat the same way people drive cars - like they own the road (or water in this case) and anyone in their way had better move fast. Generally, people don't have any consideration for those around them, run up on and over breaking fish which immediately pushes them down, cast on top of or over other people's lines and pretty much all out don't give a crap about anyone but themselves - I'd say this goes for at least 50% of the people we encounter out on the water (or on shore).

The above is, in my opinion, the biggest reason people get pissed about spot burning - be it boat or shore.

With regards to your comment on "99% of the folks that visit here look for tips on where and when to fish...", I wouldn't doubt that. I'd bet that on any given day over 1000 people visit this website, most of which probably aren't registered. Why would you want to dish out information to people that don't contribute back?

piemma 08-11-2010 11:26 AM

Since you have been a member since Aug 2007, one would think you would know better than to burn spots. 26 post in 3 years. 1 post every 6.2 weeks.

Very Well put.
I have enjoyed this very informative perspective and if I had a boat, would be very appreciative of it.
Nice of you to contribute to help others. Bah to all those that have their panties in a twist. It is what the true essence of this and other sites is, regardless if you have 1 or 10,000 posts..:btu:

would you be saying the same thing if someone put up a post saying "your island" or one of your mainland spots blew up? I would imagine you wouldn't be too happy....

Johnny...I get your point. But (respectfully) I think there is a difference between "nitwit behavior" (i.e., people that run through a blitz, cut lines, etc.) and what we consider spot-burning. There will always be nitwits...can't help that. This is a fishing board...right? People like to talk fishing, share intel and maybe improve their chances...right? My original point was to simply state that the fishing has been the best I've seen in quite some time (in one general area) and that folks that belong to this board ought to take advantage of it. Sure there are others who lurk and never contribute...can't help that either...we are on the internet...hello! Perhaps if more folks were more open about where things are happening more people would register...IMHO. I just don't get this secrecy thing about spots. What so secret about seeing acres of birds and fish in a 4-5 mile area three days in a row. Heck you can read this in the Herald on Fridays. Or how 'bout seeing a guy's pic holding a 40" with the Treatment Plant in the background. OOOOhhh this must be a spot-burn. Nonsense!!!!

Hey Piemma,

Glad to know we have a Statistics Major on board.

Joe 08-11-2010 02:14 PM

Not really even a provocative post by old flame war standards....Call somebody out by name, use a racist slur, I'm falling asleep here.

Come on guys. Lets be realistic. He said Hull. Hull is pretty effin big. Its like sayin "Cape Cod Bay is on fire" or "Stellwagon is exploding"
They are big friggin areas.

I'll put it for everyone myself............

Cuttyhunk is on fire. 6 over 40 last night.........everyone run over there..........ferry leaves at 5pm. Happy huntin.

Gooseberry is the best dog fishing I have had in 10 years.....Slammers on every cast............Fire in the water is trippy.

Come on, you know what I am saying. Its not like the guy said " go to this long/ lat and you will catch fish" Boats are a whole different beast.........Magnetic boat syndrome is contagiuos. Paul you know what I am talkin about.
Even if I had a boat, I wouldn't know the first dang thing about where to go from his posts:bshake:.

.......watch out.....I haven't slept in almost 2 days and hate my job........time to take a nap so I don't beat the wife or kick the neighbors dog when I get home...............

Hey Piemma,

Glad to know we have a Statistics Major on board.

I'll share intel, but really appreciate reciprication. If I can share my spots with someone, I hope that they'll do the same for me when I need it. I'm not THAT good of a fisherman; if I can double the covered areas, all the better.

I hate too mooch off others, but at the same time, if I'm helping the same people and getting nothing in return, I'll stop talking. I've made a few good fishing 411 friends on the forums over the last couple of years. Helps keep me informed during the week when I'm not on the water.

Joe. I tried my damnest to get em going but no one would bite. Ah the old flame wars. How I miss them.

JohnR 08-11-2010 03:09 PM

Talk in generalities and its OK. You argument RE sport burning is the one that makes sense until it happens when the fleet shows up as a result. Doesn't always happen (or probably usually). Spot talk from shore spots can often be tougher and different because many shore spots can't handle much pressure without getting closed. Not as big a deal on the harbor.

I'm having a slow afternoon so I was going to break it down by day and hour but Joe's right. This doesn't even qualify compared to th old flame wars we had when #^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^& was around. I truly miss Billy at times like these.

ProfessorM 08-11-2010 06:42 PM

Well your post didn't work as you needed a shoe horn the last few days in my neck of the woods. 2 am and 20 boats already out there. Daybreak 100 boats.

Common on guys get up there to Hull they are killing them.:)

I luv when someone post about good fishing where I don't go.:uhuh:

Slipknot 08-11-2010 08:16 PM

spot burning about great fishing at shore spots does no good at all because it winds up pissing the neighbors off from parking issues to litter, eventually access can be lost.

boat spots are different and yes fish swim and have fins last I checked, but I would never get specific about a boat spot ever. generalities are as close as you need to be in a report.

Go ahead and hype up a specific spot and see what happens if it's an easy access area :hs: the sea will look like a parking lot if you hype it up enough. so I guess it's all in how you do it.

ThrowingTimber 08-18-2010 03:46 PM

Hahaha boat guys fighting about spots and calling eachother nitwits.. This is awesome!!

REALITY... John R yes IF the fleet shows up.... I say if cause every one that ponied up for a MA Comm. lisence or is just reading the paper has been in my neck of the woods lately out on the cape... And when it goes from 50 ish boats to well over a couple hundred in a day or 2 and you wanna talk nit wits, beat offs and morons??? I find it funny I am their for work yet I see so many CT RI boat stickers its not funny... I mean one launch out there you cant get into... The town is making it resident only next year though... I mean miles of trucks and trailers on the side of the road... Any how my 2 cents dont worry bout most the fleet and the many many other beat offs their all ready occupied and annoying us who work/ live in this area

ProfessorM 08-20-2010 10:01 AM

glad they went up your way as we had it pretty crowded in CC Bay until your area heated up. Still crowded here but not as bad since word got out up there. Hope you did well since that is how you earn your living.
