For those of you with membership to BoatUS, there is now an ap for the Android platform. Useful emergency contact info and location transmission.

Red Laser is a very useful ap

I was in a marine store and was looking at a new compass for the boat. I found the one I want and the price looked good. You click red laser, and it reads the bar-code using the cell phones camera. You hear a beep when it acquires just like at the checkout stand. Then tells you about the item and its cost. But then using the GPS is knows where you are and then finds the exact item in other nearby stores and lists the price. The stores are arranged by nearest distance. It also has a tab for online retailers as well. Within 20 seconds I found out that I could save 30 bucks buy walking across the street to a retailer there who had 3 in stock! Or I could save 37 dollars by getting it online. pretty useful.

Thanks for that one! Happened to be in a shoe store in Chicago, new boat shoes $100 + 9% tax......scanned the box barcode and found Amazon had for $56, 0$ Tax, $0 shipping. I had them ordered from Amazon before leaving the store and on my doorstep 2 days later.

PS I knew exactly what size to order since I tried them on in the store.

My kid told me about that one.

Another one that I found out about is card vault. You enter in all your discount cards and when you check out it displays the barcode at the checkout. You can then empty your wallet with the stack of cards. I have used it a number of times and it works OK. It does not do CC's just things like stop and shop, membership cards, etc.

IGFA has an ap that is fun to look at when you have some down time and useful as well with lots of species info...but it is kind of expensive.

Animated "grog Knots" I look at this often and it is useful. Lots of good knots: Basics, Boating, Climbing, Fishing. Scouting, Rescue, Household.

Tunein Radio: get any radio station pretty much. I use this to listen to the Bruins when I am out of town. (It uses a lot of battery and the phone gets hot after a long time of use)

BoatUS has an ap, it is free and seems somewhat useful but I have not really used it yet.

I have another ap called "Float Plan" you keep all your contact info in there as well as boat info and before you leave you can send out an email to those that should expect you back at some time. If they have to call the CG they have all the info. Again, I tested it and it seems to work but I have not really used it.

My Blackberry really blows!!!!!!!!!!!

The only useful app it can handle is not actually an app but Wunderground.com has a great mobile tab that tells weather, marine weather and tide and current (when applicable) by zip code.:wall:

Lots of good apps listed here. I just got the new iphone last week. I have been looking for some apps for it. I am new to the whole smart phone thing, went from the basic flip phone with no texting

Android related

Boat Ramp APP - by TAKEMEFISHING.org

CardStar - sounds similar to one above. Scan all your discount keychain barcodes (ie CVS, S&S, etc..)

Call Confirm - since I used to always "pocket dial" folks by mistake

Compass

First Aid Guide

KnotsGuide

Shazam - since I'm bad with song titles & artists

Just upgraded to a Droid-X yesterday, time to start loading up on apps. So far all I grabbed are Pandora and Stupid Zombies, neither of which will aid in fishing unless I am waiting on the tide to turn.

Going to start playing around with it today as I want to get solid tide & weather apps.

Couldn't find that one but isn't that the same/similar as the BoatUS ap? I have BoatUS loaded.

Sit or Squat - It has helped me find a bathroom when I needed one.

If I had money to burn, I'd buy a portable cell phone signal blocker and carry it with me at the Canal.

No need. Turning off your cell phone isn't as effective as one might like to think. Simply removing the battery from the phone will suffice.

Finally ditched the BBRY and got an iPhone. Just bought these two apps and they're pissa.

GPS Kit from Garafa LLC. I like this one for marking spots along a long shore line. With any cell signal at all this will get with in 3 meters. Also helpful if you need to summons help to a remote area. GPS coordinates are easily displayed.

NOAA Buoy and Tide data - This one rules for the tides and current speeds etc.

Whats a smart phone? Sounds like an oxymoron to me. I think they are all a royal PIA especially all the ones being used on the highway weaving all over the friggin road.

I like Motion X gps, I can save tracks, and waypoints like tree stands when I am deer hunting, and walk boundaries, trails and deer runs. I then email this stuff to myself and import it into Google Earth and then print up detailed maps for myself and my hunting buddies, it makes scouting and hunting my deer Areas so much easier. I am sure when I get the boat back on the water I will be able to do the same thing, but at that point I will also get the Navionics...

You might want to take a look at "My Tracks" also, seems to do a lot of the same.
