I have not talked to VB yet. I know he has some real beauties, specials, in pristine shape. I will see if he can post some pics for us.

in the mean time here is some info too. There is a Red Top # 20 in there and some history of the Red Top affiliation.

Looks like they dusted a little red over the yellow decal eyes.

oh the frostfish color.:uhuh:
I think, IMO, it may be one of the nicest plugs I have seen in person as far as paint jobs go.

You have way too many.

Keep them out so you can find them easy because I am coming by in the next week or 2 and I want to see them up close again.

Love the old sparkle flakes

Does anyone have the weight of the original? By the info on Sgt Striper's paperwork, they used both holes in the lip. Most likely to vary the diving depth. This looks like a casting plug rather than a trolling plug. I would like to try to make one for trolling by fooling around with the weight distribution.

VB- That is a nice collection of Capt Bills plugs. Curious if you have any that you fish or are they all in your no fishing collection.... It looks like they had an eelie design as well

Sarge-

What is the height of the lip slot in the capt Bills swimmer? How much is it below the Centerline.

they all weight 2.7 oz , I think they only have a tail weight?
most lip cuts are dead nut center, The redhead looks a bit lower.
If you lined up Any old Manf they are all off a bit , No QC back in the day

As for fishing a CaptBill, I am sure I have in the past :)

ProfessorM 01-09-2011 06:02 PM

he doesn't fish. :biglaugh:

Those plugs are too expensive to throw in the water.

I made a copy of the eely style plug, got hold of an original, thanks to VB. Has a big lip for such a skinny plug, pretty much an A 40 lip. It swims really good and I have fished it several times. If you have interest I can get you the specs and look at the lip locations.

Paul-

that would be great ... I would like to make the capt bill little eel plug. On another topic where can I get some thin SS to make hand carve blades and try to make the diving plane for a copy of the Capt Bill diving plug that looks like a small pikie
