i can't take credit for any planning, i just helped keep some names straight.

One thing that always sucks at these type of things is you meet so many people it is hard to keep faces/real-name/screen-name straight. especially when pretty much everyone is wearing orange slickers...

Almost everyone :tooth:

Thanks to Zac for driving! Skippy for Kelly's (me must have been the smalliest in there) and SBurnsey for the jig rod loan ;)

Next year it is going to take some
serious bribe money to make sure
I do not bring a banana on board.
And even more serious money to
keep me home. I can be vindictive.

Wait I take that back, Sea Dangles
was upwind of me all day and he was
not only vindictive but LOL at every
blast. The yuppie swine. :fury:

Since there seems to be only a single photo, I put names on the people I know, sorry I didn't meet the yellow slicker!

I'll excuse people in the future if they can only ID me from the back of my head. Good luck, I'm usually wearing a hat.:)

zacs 05-16-2011 12:38 PM

that is eddie the fish pimp, aka stripercrazy

RIJIMMY 05-16-2011 12:44 PM

I hadn't been on a S-B shindig in a long time, even though the bite was slow I had great time. Thanks to the guys who made it happen.
I thought the crew of old salts were patience loving and understanding kind and forgiving. Those @$%&*() couldn't put me on a dam keeper cod!!!!

striperman36 05-16-2011 05:18 PM

they should have thrown Derrick off the stern.

Rob Rockcrawler 05-16-2011 05:28 PM

I was surprised nobody chummed. I wanted to give a plug to the first whi got green but it never happened. The plug went to the young kid on the boat. I wish i had a set up like he was using when i was his age. Dad's doing a good job with him.

I think it was mine. I said to the mate, "don't ruin it for me, let me have a few minutes and a few tugs. It feels good"

I had a great time Sunday! Really enjoyed seeing some of the guys that I’ve met over the years and meeting some new ones. I definitely want to do the S-B canyon trip if we can pull it together. Would also be interested in trying the cod again next year. Niko, Zacs, DerekL, JackK it was a pleasure meeting you guys and talking fish. JohnR thanks for the tips on my iPhone!

Niko and Zacs, thanks for all the efforts to pull the trip together. Great job!

Trip report card (scale of 1-10)

Weather: 4 (Better wet than rough. Would rather be damp than sick)
Cod Fishing: 1 (Where were they?)
Haddock fishing: 7 (saved the day)
The Challenger: 8 (smooth ride, comfortable cabin, clean and well kept)
Mate Bob: 9 (the guy was right there when you needed him)
DerekL’s knife sharpener: 10 (gotta get me one of those!)
Best decision of the day: 7 (Sticking with bait)
Worst decision of the day:0 (Making that last move. Never leave fish to drive 30 minutes to fish for only another 20 minutes. Tough way to end the day.)
S-B group: 11+ (Fishing with these guys was by far the best part of the trip!)

jimmy z 05-18-2011 03:57 AM

It sounds like all had a good time, even though a lot of fish weren't caught.

The Dad Fisherman 05-18-2011 05:10 AM

How'd you guys do on the Haddock?....I'd seriously rather catch those then cod myself....

Can't post any fish porn pics: would be spot burning!

Every time I was about to pull out the camera, it was raining too hard.

zacs 05-18-2011 10:57 AM

FishOn, that is a great re-cap! Great to talk meet and chat. You also deserve kudos on the organizational front.

Haddock fishing was pretty decent, actually, with delicious results. I wish I could catch this fish all the time, because my kids would eat way more fish if I did!!!

Flounder was also delicious. dusted with flour and seared in butter... oh man Bill, not sure why you would give that one away, but my family thanks you! Yours plus mine equaled a flounder dinner for the Fam last night.

Rest of the fish (not much) is in the freezer now.

RE: No Pics - I have a few from inside the cabin, but when fishing, my camera/phone were under layers of rain gear, and the weather was just to wet and raw to consider breaking them out for pics... sorry...

I think the "7" rating is highly biased by the quality of the haddock after one of those fillets hit the mouth, can't argue that one, but the quality of fishing for haddock rates a 4-5. To fish for 8hrs and pull up as few fish as we did doesn't rate a 7!

I just had my 3rd Burnt End Lunch. I am outta town till 6/10.

niko 05-18-2011 07:31 PM

fish on did a bunch of the organizing - thanks keith. next year we can try stellwagen w/ the viking out of quincy or capt john out of plymouth.

Fish On 05-18-2011 08:24 PM

Please don't mention it guys. I really only made a couple phone calls. I just love to fish. What made this trip was all the guys that signed up, paid and filled the trip in only a few weeks. Great effort!

I was hoping that we would see some of the same cod fishing as these guys have experienced in late May/early June over the past several years. The cod in those fishing reports are huge. With hindsight it seems as though the cod may have been better on Stellwagon for this trip. I'm up for that next year Niko.

My family has always loved to eat haddock so taking home 9 keepers between the two of us was considered a very happy result. I've been eating haddock since Sunday and have one cooked fillet leftover in the fridge. Not one made it to the freezer. Still, I really wanted to crank up my first 40 lb cod from 200 feet....still itching to do that.
