Phil,
that system is flawed as well. BMI does not take into account lean muscle mass. The only true way to judge is by body fat %.

So here is body fat % calculator:

Body Fat Percentage Calculator

Where is the waist: circumference around the naval or where I wear my pants belt?:rotf2:

Redsoxticket 11-25-2011 01:11 PM

You can make your waist smaller by tighten your stomach muscles and holding your breath and making it larger by doing the opposite.
There will be larger folks that get inaccurate measurements because they will need to tighten up and hold breath just to see the numbers on the tape.

*Measuring your waist
Your waist measurement should be determined by measuring the distance around your natural waist which is located just above your navel.

Give up food.
Buy protein powder and mix it with milk and take a multivitamin. Have a fiber drink with Metamucil once a day to fulfill your fiber needs. I lost 60# that way and have kept it off for the last two years. I only occasionally eat a regular meal.
After a while you start to view food as disgusting.

Put it in a blender and drink it!:rotf2:

Joe 11-25-2011 07:09 PM

Nothing tastes as good as thin feels. If you're not full on the recommended amount of protein powder, just add extra - you'll still be under.
It's weird not eating with the family though. I cook just about everything and clean while they eat.
Food never really did it for me anyway. I never really enjoyed it that much. I just got fat because I was in the house with the fridge all day, until I found myself disgusting.

I stop both butts and Beer as they both go hand and hand last March, could care less about getting drunk , still want a smoke
But it is a life saver for sure and you can do more :fishin:and buy more lures and .........
And you as well bossman

Quit smoking five weeks ago, and started spin class same motivation as shark but the bums go up and down in tight cycling gear. Great motivator,
7 classes and counting

Smoked for 40 years at least. I quit last winter. One last pack and the patch. Smoke one in the am and put the patch on. The first week I think I smoked one more butt oneday but I knew I only had 20. I really want one still when I am fishing but other than that it does not bother me, in fact people smoking kind of do but I stifle myself.
I feel like the portly angler now. Need to get back on the treadmill, but this am I am going to walk a few miles in the woods instead.
I know all those BMI calculators are BS. For most of my life they said I was obese and I literally could'nt float.
I float like a cork now.

Greg's right, you have to go by percentage.

JohnR 11-28-2011 08:23 AM

Percentages is the easiest fair way to play.

OK - kick off - January 1st - with an early start December 15th? Cost is a plug OR this year we'll let you buy one online with PayPal (maybe even get the PayPals in and the total will go to a gift certificate with one of the plug sponsors (I may nominate Afterhours as at last check he was working himself into better shape).

Jan 1st to May 1st?

chefchris401 11-28-2011 09:48 AM

Sounds good John.

Were do I send the plugs?

I'll throw in some custom tied bucktails and siwash hooks too.

I wish this started in August. I was 203 when I got out of the hospital. I'm down to 179 now. I can't imagine losing much more would be too healthy. A before and after picture would be fun too.

Sea of Atlas 11-28-2011 10:57 AM

I would like to do this, does it have to be a plug turned by the participant?

jlnel 11-30-2011 02:24 PM

id be in!!, would need to buy a plug for now.. i think win or lose, i win, just like all of us that could lose 10-20, or 100lbs!! after breaking my back years ago, i couldnt believe how fast 100 lbs could find spots to cling on to me :-(

The Iceman 6 11-30-2011 03:34 PM

I dropped about 25-30 this year, always worked out, hiked, ice hockey, just starting eating better. Pretty much maintained it as well.

I'm not participating but, if anyone is near me they are welcome to work out with me. It might help those that don't have the motivation at the beggining or a broad base of exercise knowledge.

I life weights and do cardio.

that's difficult when you grow food ( a celebration of life) yet still good advice.... in a sense

protein is now my rescue fix when i crash hard perhaps on sugar in
the chocolate coffee creamer or come down fast on just 2 coffee's.

Normally i'll head for the frozen OJ to make a quick sugar pick me up
drink... but it's the protein (says my Doctor) that sustains you the longest before you run out of steam again. It's the way to go.

so Joe, are you just using WHEY protein ?
