Are you guys shoveling your roofs? we got 28" here in central Ct. It looks like a lot of weight. My concern is ice-dams... also, they are calling for straight rain on monday, and that will make the snow very very heavy on the roof.

Any thoughts?

This is as bad a snowfall as I have seen I. A while. Spent four hours building two mounds at the shop last night went back this AM around 7 after I did my house with the snow blower. Looked likeI had never been there. Got halfway through and lost 4wd did a decent job In 2wd. Had the truck inside the shop for a few hours gonna go back now and see If I can lock it in four high at the xfer case and plow some more.

Ivan,I'll be shoveling my roof tomorrow got 38" where I am in east hartford. The south side of my roof has a huge drift has to be around 4' of snow on there. The rain in the forecast had me worried to. plus that snow isn't light and fluffy stuff as it is.Shouldn't be too bad I shoveled it a few times back when we had that october storm and the year before that. Just have to be smart about it, Don't get within 4' of the edge and there most likely will be some ice forming under the snow already so definetly take that into consideration.

Shoveled out my landlord and I's driveway and walkways. The walked to end of the street to clear the massive pile to get to the main road and while I was shoveling 5 EP DPW trucks drove past me staring at me with their plows up. 5th one got the finger. It's cool I don't mind shoveling snow in the middle of pawtucket ave dodging cars.. jerks

Yeah, here's my thoughts. I shoveled 3 or 4 years ago when we got a ton and then I said to myself "why the F*&^& do I pay for insurance". If it caves in this time I'll get a new roof with those architectural shingles. and Liberty Mutual will pay for it. Check with them yesterday and I'm covered.

Lots of ornamental shrub and tree damage from this storm. The wet snow to start pulled over a lot of stuff and then 2 feet on top of that is going to bust up a lot of stuff. Not even worth trying to get the snow off as you end up doing a lot of damage trying that. Probably have to tie up a lot of stuff when the snow goes and hope for the best or prune heavily this spring.

I'm dug out finally. Plow guy just finished. haven't seen piles like this in a long time!! feels good to be able to go out and drive around if I have to.

Thanks again for the offers of help but things worked out good with my normal guy , it just took longer than normal do to the excessive amounts of snow.

striperman36 02-10-2013 04:51 PM

Good to hear.

This time I really have to do it: install the manual release safety device for the electric garage doors.:smash: I bought it 3-5yrs ago, hope I can find it. We don't have a 3rd access.

Being efficient moved the snow blower from the shed to the garage Friday morning. Lost power 8PM Friday, access snow blower 5PM Sunday when power restored.

Mike P 02-10-2013 07:52 PM

I got rid of most of the slush and concrete snow Friday night. Made yesterday's work a breeze. The town started plowing early, so I was also able to clear about 8" of plow wall at the end of the driveway Friday night.

When you install it, try to minimize the length of the rope and don't put the handle on it if you don't have to. I've heard a few reports about the scumbags using coat hangers to pull the rope and let themselves in. Then they use tools already in the garage to break into the house.

It's Tuesday night-
I manage a 50 acre property with a mile long, uphill, hairpin turn driveway and the plow guy quit last storm, so its up to me. I've had to hike up it twice in the snow because the tractor- a 37 hp 4WD Kubota- has gotten stuck at least 6 times due to the ice under the 30"( now 24" after the rain) of snow. I tried to get a bigger machine to come over and they're having the same trouble, sliding on ice and getting stuck. Everyone is looking for chains for their equipment, the parts couter at the local equipment dealer was 5 deep at 4:30 today. I still have over a half mile uphill to plow. This sucks. I want to be somewhere else where there's no freekin gd snow or bitchy clients.:splat::lossinit:
