I've been out about a dozen times so far, mostly to try the lures i did this winter and to kind of reacquaint myself with some of my old haunts, and learn some new ones. Beverly and Salem have fish busting every time I'm there, but they seem tuned in on the herring fry. I did manage my first of the year....an impressively fiesty 9"! lol I did glimpse quite a few big boys in the 30-40" range, but they just weren't interested in what I had to offer.

to make matters worse, I had to get a steady stream of pics from my buddy who fished PI the other day, 17 in all. 30-36" range. Just lit the fire for me.

Maybe it's the loss of access in a bunch of my usual haunts, maybe I'm just tired of the game. Staying home with the wife on weekends is getting more and more inviting.

I know the last year was a tough one for me, and this year has it's share of distractions. Most of last season I stayed local, just wasn't feeling the drive! I too wanna spend the time with my family! I know this feels good, the quality time with the wife and son!:uhuh:

Running late seems to have become a way of life for me, too occupied to be away for more than a few hours. Been flyfishing for trout because I can steal an hour in the evenings behind my house.

Sigh.
I miss the surf.

Hahaha, yes for those of us not used to catching 30-50lbers, we speak in inches....it's a different dialect. lol

I'm usually in on Mother's Day but this year my boat is still in storage in NH. I'll go get it next Friday. I need to touch up the bottom paint and maybe have it in the water the following week. It's been one of those Springs.

I scraped and bottom painted and loaded the gear May 1st. It's still in my driveway waiting for it's shake out cruise and then on the mooring it goes. Hopefully tomorrow is the day.

Oh I get it. Us old timers never spoke of inches. If it wasn't 15# we didn't even mention it. I know, times have changed. This guy stopped me at the Canal last night and inquired as to how I did. I told him I had a couple of mid-teens and one around 20. He said "wow, those are small fish. I said "really, since when is a 20# fish a small fish? He said OH, I thought your were talking inches.:smash:

yeah, well I get excited anytime anything starts tugging at the end of my line, never really bothered to weigh my fish, just always made sure they were over 28". Maybe because I never caught any fish worth mentioning....lol

I am kinda late with striper fishing, too. Hopefully, I will hit the canal one of the mornings this week...

Except for a quick boat trip with a friend a few weeks ago, I haven't even sniffed the salt. I only just cleaned up my gear...

yup.. schoolies were schoolies... students or rats.. back when 16" was a "keeper".. 10 -15lbs means they were mediums.. and that was only for market terms..... everyone I knew called 'em bulls... not cows when they got worth talking about( and of coarse no one did until after the fact)... even if they were female....
