3 years ago, talk of a 40% or something mortality reduction. Then, there's an awesome YOY index, and everything's all roses and champagne again.

Fast forward to the very next YOY. 0.9. All time low, worse than any year in the early 80s. I once thought, "gee, the SB recovery is the one success story, out of dozens, of their fishery management history. They'll do everything they can to avoid #^&#^&#^&#^&ing it up." Just call me naive.

I was codfishing 20nm east of Chatham yesterday. Wanna talk dead wasted bass. Saw plenty of nice bass bycatch floaters from the draggers working in 275ft of water. No one likes seeing that and is 100 times "wrong" than a party boat issue.

I agree. There should be no such thing as edible by-catch. IMO any edible catch (by-catch or otherwise) should go to market and come off the comm quota. I know that R&R comm bass guys will cry because the by catch will take all their quota but put it in the hand of the comm fisherman and let them duke it out.

How is it we can dump them dead? Who OK's this activity?

The current rules force the fishermen to dump them over the side.

Pretty Fn stupid to toss anything edible over the rail.
Dead is dead.
But then it's government involvement, I'd be surprised if they can pee without getting it all over themselves.

I love that picture! I hope the party boats suck the last fish out of the ocean!

This years fall run from the shore in Gloucester and most of cape ann, using lures (99% top water) was a 100% bust! and its was not just me. Guys you know and guides you know that catch (and release) 20-30+ 40" fish and 100's of smaller fish from Sep-1 to now got lets say? 30 fish? avg size 12"-30" TOTAL COLLAPSE!

so party boat on! because nothing will be done till the NY fishermen sees the same numbers. as for the canal fishermen? they are right up there with party boaters! its like the killing fields down there some days and once those fish are gone your going to have to learn how to fish in the ocean.

next year in MA for commercial fishermen; TAGS! AND THEY WILL HAVE TO PAY TAXES LIKE THE TUNA FISHERMEN!

Florida got it right 30 years ago when they made Snook a game fish. Closed down the commercial season and made it, predominately, a catch and release fishery. Now it's a world class fishery.

No Bobber, no pics taken. Videos of the same thing have been posted in the past. It is an already well known problem.

Couldn't agree more. I gave up the canal this year... well I went twice and I regret it. I just end up just getting pissed off and disgusted at the whole scene down there. Place is the ghetto of the striper world. F that place.
