Hard to tell here in west warwick some really big drifts 4' to 5' and had some bare spots, not sure of the actual totals but considering its been snowing almost 24 hrs i will agree.

Probably around a foot here but really drifting. Bare grass on one side of the house and 3' on the other...

Snow just picked back up and is coming down hard. Looks like this afternoon will be bad.

ivanputski 01-27-2015 02:30 PM

Im just outside of hartford ct. Stopped snowing about 10 am and sun pushing through thick clouds. Forecast was 24-30" but we ended up with about 14" some bare spots, some drifts.
I have never been so happy to see 14 inches of snow since i was expecting waist deep. And power stayed on

Probably have 20-21 inches so far. Another 3-6 to come. Wind driven drifts make it hard to pin down accurately. Been watching neighbors clearing, only to see the wind fill it back in. We haven't left the house... Might head out to at least clear my drive and vehicles so as to get an early start tomorrow. Told all my customers that it would be Wednesday before I got there anyway. The wind just wont quit here on the coast.....

Guppy 01-27-2015 03:59 PM

The wind is brutal down here,,, shoveled for close to 3 hrs this afternoon and probably have another 3 to go tomorrow 😂 :smash:
If this global warming keeps up I may consider a snow blower :biglaugh:

Mr. Sandman 01-27-2015 05:00 PM

Probably 2'+ with bigger drifts out here on MV. Wind was roaring..60 at times. I don't shovel (all vehicles I own are big 4wd's)but I had to clear the furnace vents and drains, they were partially buried. Never lost power. Wood stove and pellet stove kept house 74 deg all day. I was downstairs making plugs all day. :)
This past year they replaced all the electric poles with big heavy taller poles and re-rigged the power lines so they very well supported and above all the trees. They also did a lot of heavy trimming. Everyone (except me) was complaining all summer about Nstar putting in eyesores and that they never asked the commission for permission to do that. NSTAR told the commission...we don't ask permission, we do what we want these belong to us and that pissed them off and it was back and forth all summer. I bet they are happy they didn't loose power now. (probably not actually, they are morons). My local 'hood is underground and the cable to the island is underwater so it is only the few miles that we have an issue.

I always look forward to your storm reports.

How did the power to Nantucket get cut?

tysdad115 01-27-2015 06:42 PM

If anyone near south shore - Wareham is without power let me know. I can drop my generator off . So far we're good here.

Thanks Andy got power but if you want to shovel my driveway I'd be more than happy to let you.:kewl:

I haven't exited my house since about 9 last night, and really there's no point. My street runs east/west and a snowdrift averaging 4-feet deep is running the entire 200-yard distance. No plows yet, and until they come through there's not a car on this street with any hope of moving. Crazy.

beamie 01-27-2015 09:22 PM

Guessing we have about 2 ft here in Marshfield and still coming......

Hard to believe we haven't lost power, hasn't even flickered.....usually in many parts of Marshfield losing power always is an issue. Maybe they have been doing better tree trimming.

Jenn 01-27-2015 09:55 PM

They predicted 2-3 feet here but if we ended up with a whole 6" I would be surprised (hard to tell with drifting but I would say maybe 4" total on top of the 4" from Saturday) I do love snow but would rather it in VT than here even still. Either way I still cant help but feel let down that EVERYTHING was over-hyped for our area and closed for nothing! Forecasters really blew it for my area! What a waste too that last night between 9-10 P.M. the plows went through (yes with blades down) 8 times in one hour and we barely had an inch at that point! Even considering the fact that they did each side of the road once that's still 4 plows, both directions in a hour...no clue what they were plowing at that point. Completely "over-hyped" and as a result a huge waste of resources.

yeah, come to my house. 30" +. 5 foot drifts. I plowed all day yesterday.

Not the blizzard of 78 but a top 10 storm.

Raven 01-28-2015 06:37 AM

the snow was so fine and blowing so hard it came thru my window
screen in the bathroom like finely shredded cheese.
No sense trying to clear it under those conditions.
Today, i will begin to "dig out" my cars. can't even see my wife's volvo.
this will take several days. My dog has gone blind with cataracts
and i dug out a spot outside the back door for her to go
but she couldn't understand the walls of snow towering over her
bumping into them in all directions like a pin ball game.
the snow is over the top of my chain link fence.
thank god it's Fluffy texture.

iamskippy 01-28-2015 07:09 AM

With the duration of this storm amd wind i am feeling very lucky taking the drifts into account i would say we ended up with 6".

I spoke with a few folks in the north and they were telling me they were approaching the 3' mark and that was mid day yesterday hope the storm ended favorably for them as i have not heard from them yet..

RIROCKHOUND 01-28-2015 07:17 AM

I'd guess 18" Down here; the official total at the Westerly Airport was 20.5"

macojoe 01-28-2015 08:09 AM

They say 28" here?? But we never lost power! Got the car out yesterday with my sons help, but the plows have it locked in again. Going out now to do my best at getting out as I have to go to dialysis, thank god they made us all go in today at 11am, instead of 6am.
Glad everyone is ok, bless them plow guys! Wish my son was not one of them so he could dig me out

JohnR 01-28-2015 08:19 AM

Mom, on the Cape, said nothing in the back yard - 10ft drifts in front :jump:

Rob Rockcrawler 01-28-2015 08:50 AM

I spent a good part of yesterday moving show with either the snow blower or the tractor. THings are looking good, all i have to do now is clear a oath to the wood pile and im good to go. Going to make for crappy ice fishing this weekend though.

Nantucket has their own generators. I heard a sub station on the island fried and caused the generator(s) to fail and a cascade problem island wide of some sort. (But this was hearsay)

I don't think they have a power cable to the mainland but they may by now. MV has 3 conduits that cross the sound. Every 10 years or so one goes and they need to replace it. A couple years ago two went and it was peak summer load. They had the on island back up generators and a lot of portable equipment running all summer. These things are B I G. I think Obama had one just for him. I recall a few years ago a big boat (a mega yacht)anchored in the sound and snagged on to one and actually pulled it to within sight at the surface before figuring out what he just did. That caused all kind of issues.

I bet NE has a mini "baby boom" of sorts next Oct/Nov :humpty: with all this time off.

ivanputski 01-28-2015 12:53 PM

This storm was not over hyped at all.. it just ended up in different places.

if you live in a region that was spared a 30" snowfall, you should be happy instead
of feeling like someone pulled a fast one on you.

Come a bit west. Some places out my way will be fine. As long as this next storm predicted for Sunday/Monday stays rain!

ProfessorM 01-28-2015 02:30 PM

tell my aching muscles it was over hyped. I would have loved 5 inches

Stays rain? It's projected to be all snow and a foot or more depending where you are.

I'm scheduled to fly to San Diego in the afternoon and am not looking forward to it.
