Game fish status doesn't mean you can't catch the fish. It doesn't mean you can't kill a fish for the table. It DOES mean you can't SELL fish.

First of all catching a striped bass isn't like fighting a tarpon or a snook . Secondly , people don't like eating Tarpon . Snook idk .
And third , people just need an excuse to go to Florida when it's cold up here .

Obviously you have never fished for snook. Or redfish for that matter. Both are tremendously similar to striped bass on many levels.

Tarpon make bass look like goldfish.
And if you're dragging a fish back 300 ft on wire, well that just sucks no matter what it is. Might as well be a 5 gallon bucket.

3 reasons for florida's success- (all off the top of my head... I could have some facts wrong)

1- an expensive fishing liscense that has a 3 tier price structure lowest is a resident, then an out if state and then they really stick it to you for a week long license.

2- no commercial sale of game fish

3- slot limits. The cows all swim free to a certain point.

And an in-shore net ban that was enacted via constitutional amendment, and approved by 72% of the voters.

up here the nets (obviously) aren't the specific issue.... thay are just worth too much money to markets and restaurants
