Maybe it was something like: since the 2A was specifically intended to be a defense (as in combat) against a tyrannical government, wearing combat gear symbolically represented the meaning of the 2A.

I believe it is because that costume makes more of an impact to those who are viewing the 6 o’clock news. Couple it with a nice big rifle and you have the makings of a movie. It’s really no different than kids playing paintball.
