I do both (and enjoy both), boat and shore....for bass I mostly surf fish. I actually enjoy hiking and climbing my way around some island looking for that great spot to take a big fish. The personal reward is much sweeter.

But the other day I was boat fishing with my surf rod so close to a beach I could put my eel almost on the beach. Got 10 fish ( in the 20's) from 5:30-7:00am and was back home to take the kids to school. I also enjoyed that trip. Would I rather catch a 50 in the suds? sure. It is just easier from a boat. You can cover an amazing amount of real estate and fish different methods and carry a ton of stuff.
The fish on my wall is a surf bass. I would not mount a boat fish. Unless it was a record fish. A 50#er is a big fish boat or shore but IMO if it was hauled up trolling wire or drifting scup in deep water with 50# braid.... its no trophy, its just a big fish.

rwilhelm 09-30-2003 07:23 AM

I think we can all agree that it is more challenging to land a big fish from land. In a boat you can cover a lot more area and reach deeper water. With that being said boat fish do count I just think it is a little easier than shore fishing.

Fishpart 09-30-2003 07:33 AM

It's about the fishing.................... To me it doesn't really matter, most of the time if I'm boat fishing I'm within a good surf cast of the shore. Unfortunately some of the places I boat fish can't be reached on foot by a mere commoner.

beachwalker 09-30-2003 07:42 AM

Yea, that's it......

So we are finally ALL in agreement that fishing is fishing and boat or shore is good as long as we are fishing, right ?

It seems to me that some shore people have some bitterness towards the boat people. What is up with that ? Are you bummed that they might kill the fish that YOU wanted to kill.

I have a mount of the American Eel on my bumper of my truck that I caught a 53 lber on. And a plug that I caught another one on is in my safe deposit box. These trophies are SO important to me that i want EVERYONE to recognize them. I am such an amazing fisherman...... :laughs: :laughs: .

beachwalker 09-30-2003 08:28 AM

Ok so let's see how long it takes for the Krispy vs. Beachwalker pissing contest to sort itself out........

Krispy. The ignorant display I refer to is YOUR statement to "Get a grip".

Seek first to understand THEN to be understood.

Clammer 09-30-2003 08:40 AM

AS I stated before ==its not all the fish ==its the combiniation , on being outdoors that we all enjoy, but some of you won,t let up

I think most boat fisherman will agree the most times a shore caught bass is a greater acheivement,,,,,,,
but some of you shore guys think a boat ==equals a piece of a cake fishing ==not so ,,,,,,,,,
Got Stripers said it correctly , when he said time takes it toll on the body/////////////I still shore shore fish ,but not if it means knocking the #^&#^&#^&#^& out of myself or dropping of a heart attack =========thats fun , thats sport ==========I don,t think so===============thats stupid
If boat fishing is so easy I invite anyone whose so adament against it ===to come take my boat =lets see what you can do =========lets see if you have the balls & knowledge to fish where I fish ?????????/ or cause being a hardcore shore fisherman =who fishes at night we,ll do that tooooooo// lets add some fog also ///
think its easy =fish with got stripers & see what it liked to be outfished with plastics
go
next to Cape Sam & fish the way he does =see how you do
get a boat , come where ,im fishing a t& w =no wire [which I don,t do any more] & see if you can match me , Bluefish & scup don,t count/////
how would you feel if we went & got 24 pogies right now & then went fishing in the same boat , I smoaked the large & if you got lucky you got Bluefish =you won,t catch a bass unless it my mistake///
You guys just won,t let this rest=its what each & every one of us enjoy no matter where, when & how we do it
How many do we go & not fish hard or we stop to see the sunrise ,or the waves break, or the smell of low tide =do you actually think thats limited to shorefisherman///

How easily we forget how lucky we are ,,
we are phycially able to go =many can,t////
we can finicially [???] go many can,t ////
we are allowed to go ,, many ,many ,many can,t=======look around this world . put this its proper place ,, let it rest =and all enjoy what we have have & don,t take it for granted===========================

Great response Clamdigger.....It takes alot of time, effort, money, and experience to get fish by boat also. We are not talking about running up to a school of fish breaking the surface that will hit anything thrown at them. To pull some big bass out it's usually going to take some live bait, proper tides, currents, and conditions. I have been boat fishing for 3-years and I am the first to admit I don't know squat "YET"....but I am learning quick.

beachwalker 09-30-2003 09:07 AM

And 179 is right on with Clamdigger. It ain't easy from the boat. It takes preparation and boatmanship.

But there are an AWFUL lot of big son's a guns that you can put yourself on from a boat.

I head over to Tuckernuck today for an afternoon of fishing the area and a night of hitting it's beaches. Sleeping over at a friends house and fishing again in the AM.

Fancy that. Boat and Shore ALL in one trip. :D

Pretty psyched to get a grip on things ;)

You need to read back into the thread and UNDERSTAND what has been discussed and pissed over the whole time here.
I guess thats what happens when you try riding the rail, esp. on the internet. Good luck with that.
And I will wade through your "posts" in the future, and hope none of it sticks to the bottom of my souls :)

fishaholic18 09-30-2003 09:30 AM

I Love Fishing....Boat & shore.....Don't You??????????

Answer : I absolutely DONT CARE! :D

i march to the beat of my own drum.

a fish is a fish -> catch'em anyway you can as long as your
not snagging them - its legally caught

Rappin Mikey 09-30-2003 09:55 AM

Can we talk about something else for a little while? This post was getting old two days ago.

beachwalker 09-30-2003 09:58 AM

That is why there are other posts or you can start a new one, eh ?

I'll stick to fishing and not responding because it is now obvoous to me that it is a very stupid agruement to begin with. Especially when a fisherman does both.

:D

Rappin Mikey 09-30-2003 10:14 AM

Actually, if you wanna start with me BW I need some good laughs. What ever you do just don't use that stupid "Seek to understand crap" on me. Your hypocritical attempts at philosophy are a big enough joke as it is. That is enough comedy for me for one day. I will go to another post. :D :D :D

beachwalker 09-30-2003 10:20 AM

You obviously are a little underdeveloped like the Krappy up in CT.

Respect what other people say if it isn't absurd. That is all I am saying.

It is people who don't try and learn that makes discussing things impossible. I learn/ you learn.

You should start to fish with Krispy there. You boys would probably have a bunch of real good bull to tell each other while you pat each other on the back for being such amazing fisherman.

Stick that in your pipe and puff on it.

I get a good feeling you are going to be real unhappy with me now.

It was most certainly my intent.

SEEK FIRST TO UNDERSTAND AND THEN BE UNDERSTOOD. AND IF YOU CAN'T DO BOTH, GO FISH WITH MIKEY. :laughs: :laughs: :laughs:

Krispy 09-30-2003 10:30 AM

:smokin:

Rappin Mikey 09-30-2003 10:30 AM

Come on BW I was joking around. I just wanted to get into the action. I heard from a bunch of people that our last little tiff was mildly entertaining. Remember "Fishing for Dummies" with the pictures? Anyway, I was just jealous of Krispy getting all of your negative attention. I'll leave ya alone now. Peace, and thanks for responding. By the way, I fish from a boat during the day, and from the beach at night and in the morning, so at least we see eye to eye there. I think there is a lot of us that do, so that is why I wrote my original post. Everybody has made there points. Many of them were dictated very well, but enough already. How about whether you fish from the shore, boat, or both, good luck in the next few months. Everybody be safe, but more importantly have fun!!! That is what it is all about.

beachwalker 09-30-2003 10:31 AM

Slipknot 09-30-2003 10:50 AM

Where's Bill Nolan? Now THERE'S a potstirrer.

Krispy, slow day at work today? :)

Krispy 09-30-2003 11:13 AM

Hey Slip. anything else I can burden the fault for ya there? Unrest in the Mid-East, medi-care costs, Mass. politics? ;) :)

Jenn 09-30-2003 11:25 AM

HUH? are you all serious???? I hope not!

I love to fish! and I fish from shore! does that mean I wont fish from a boat??? no....

hey, we all have our prefrences. (and sometimes circumstances) heck its all fishing right??? hey why dont we fight about what the best fish to catch is????...Its what you enjpy that makes it fun ...and the passion for fishing that brings us all together!

Yes, Mass politics. Can you kick all their arses? they need a headslap. Can we talk about shore access to where the beautiful people live? I want parking near that access :D

Clammer 09-30-2003 11:33 AM

Girl ==I,m glad your feeling better:D

Krispy 09-30-2003 11:34 AM

Ok, Romney was my fault. sorry :(

Krispy 09-30-2003 12:38 PM

C'mon Slip, who else other than me n' Mitt could piss off so many Mass anglers at once :p  :D

Saltheart 09-30-2003 04:56 PM

I don't care what your opinions are. Just use acceptable language to express them. I don't have time to edit posts to get rid of gutter talk. if it sounds too bad to me I'm deleting the whole post. I shouldn't have to tell you this but please behave like adults.

Please review your own posts and edit out the gutter talk I may have missed.
thanks

Guys - this can be debated til bloo in the face but keep it CLEAN. "Family Friendly" and all that crapols....

Zank you, Vil be heeah altza veek....

beachwalker 09-30-2003 08:20 PM

Sorry to all members.

Obviously I got a bit fired up when I was told to get a grip.

Fished 'til the tide change on Tuckernuck tonight. Current stats are 12 fish 27- 38". Lot of fun. Beach and boat. A little rough along the bars. Perfect surf and rip fishing. Via Sat link right now.
We are back out around mid night. Cooking up a nice meal of steamers, bass and beers right now :D

We have got a pretty good grip here but I will make sure I watch my mouth when I lose it in the future ;)

T.G.I.F

Thank God It's Fall !

fishaholic18 09-30-2003 08:30 PM

Beers and steamers don't count!!:D

beachwalker 10-01-2003 07:55 AM

:D

Had another 2 doz. fish between us all after midnight.

I think the fish are starting to wake up

By the way you can't just motor up and stay on Tuckernuck. It is private and I have a friend who owns a house there so....

But the fishing around is good. Just be real careful of the rips. The one at the mouth of Smiths Point will end it all for you if your motor stalls in an outgoing tide. Class 10 rapids (is there such a thing ?) :(

I find up to class VI Rapid...:D :D :D
Class I
"Wild Water definition: Very relaxing."
Gentle, moving water. Very small waves requiring little or no maneuvering.

Class II
"Wild Water definition: You may get splashed." Regular waves, easy to see, may reach 3 to 4 feet in height. Avoiding rocks, river bends or other obstacles may require simple maneuvering.

Class III
"Wild Water definition: You will get wet!"
Large, continuous series or sets of waves, some in excess of 6 feet. "Holes" or "hydraulics" may be present, and can be run or avoided. Small drops, ledges or waterfalls may be present. Scouting the rapids is suggested for all but the most experienced of river persons.

Class IV
"Wild Water definition: You'll get soaked… like a 9 or 10 on the "fun scale"!
Confused and erratic waves or holes. Large obstructions need to be avoided in what are referred to as "must moves". Risk of injury if swimming without benefit of a raft! Very difficult and scouting is required.

Class V
"Wild Water definition: Adrenaline junkies only!
For most people, class V goes off the "fun" scale and enters the "kinda scary" scale! Very challenging for even the most experienced river persons. High risk of capsize or injury. Limit of navigation and scouting is essential.

Class VI
"Wild Water definition: Niagara Falls in a barrel!" Virtually non-navigable, or navigable only at particularly favorable river levels.
