 Dude, relax. If it's different, then it's different.

You wrote, "If you were smrt you would go get one of my plugs and see since you cannot apparently see differences from pictures!!!!!" I agree. The sizes, weights, finish etc... may be different. Send me one and I'll compare it. I have no idea where to purchase a sfrancis.

sfrances 12-03-2003 12:18 AM

Arby 12-03-2003 12:35 AM

Geez...

OK, Yes, Don makes a good Bob Hahn imitation. He is probably the closest people could buy since Mr. Hahn stopped making them. Still, Don has had a few bad runs with his plugs. Plugs rolling over, etc...

So if I get your gist correctly, you are "copying" neither Bob nor Don but the Creek Chub original? Both you plugs and the Big Don will be sold next to each other? Also, If you are friendly with Don then you should be happy that someone questioned someone elses similar "for sale" plug. As I said above, if someone all of a sudden showed up with very similar plugs to those of JHabs, down to the color schemes, and then sold them as his own I would expect Mr. Habs to be a tad upset.

So, no plug will be sent my way?

Gee, I went a long way to try to "plug 'ho" this guy....

Diamond Tackle 12-03-2003 12:53 AM

Whats all this about surfster lips now ?
Please elaborate so an idiot like me can understand.

btw, Big Don makes a plug that is pretty hard to beat quality wise. I own quite a few of them including a one of a kind surfster in candy apple red/purple sides that I will treasure forever. The attention to detail he puts into every single one is quite extraordinary. And they CATCH. Takes time to build that kind of reputation and following. I dont think Don will lose any sleep over this.
Good luck in you Plug building venture SFrances.

Arby 12-03-2003 01:06 AM

One more before I go...

sfrances, YOU, not me, came on this public site showing your wares to sell and asking for responses. I gave you one. So did others. Sorry, you may not have liked mine. (Hell, I know you didn't like it since I read the PM you sent me. :D ) But that's the way it goes. Good luck in your plug venture. Best wishes.

Tinman, the top plug in my Big Don picture (orange/black) was part of a special run (Sea Robin). Yep, they do catch... ;)

Arby

MrsSFrances 12-03-2003 01:24 AM

 Yes Big Don and my husbands plugs sell in the same store

and sfrancis is not the name of the plug...im am not going to start anything by posting any info on this forum....

my husband as well as many other lure makers have worked hard on creating a wooden lure...my husband is not "copying" anybody...he uses references and goes from there...

as some has said, "ya gotta start somewhere"...right?

I myself am an artist, i just didnt pick up a pencil on day and start making master pieces....i liked a certain style, and started out that way...my husband loves fishing..its his passion...and building plugs and tweaking them was in the makes before he started selling them...its something he loves to do...just like anybody else here.....who build....

alls i can say is...BOYS GO TO YOUR CORNERS!!!:p

Krispy 12-03-2003 01:54 AM

Geez Arby, he came to a public site you havent posted to in over a year to get some feedback. And you completely ripped him and then do some really hard backpedaling and then tell Frances to chill?
I have both makers in surfster styles/sizes and they're nothing alike. Big Dons are an awesome plug, generally a little fatter all around in shape, and a staple in my bag.
SFrances hasnt even given the name of his plugs or where they can be bought. He seems like a plug builder showing some stuff with some like minded folks.
We should be  theres some fresh air in here, sometimes its just status quo 'round these forums

UserRemoved1 12-03-2003 08:02 AM

I just had to go back and check the thread title to see if it said "#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^& plugs"

:D :D

It's gonna be a looooooonnnnnng winter.

capesams 12-03-2003 08:05 AM

I copy everyone's new an old..these's only so many styles around that work...sooo! if u make a great plug an people want them more power to ya..just because someone made a fishin rod doesn't mean someone else can't make one..thread fa thread, guide fa guide etc. etc... WHO CARES.... sfrances don't stop postin ya plugs, pay no never mind to people who have nothin better to do then complain, their not worth responding to.

BigFish 12-03-2003 08:27 AM

I don't care who any of you plug builders are.....I think that everyone copies everyone else anyway....slice up the "wonderbread" any way you want, none of you guys invented these plug body styles, you simply took a basic design and made it your own! Don't agree???? Henry Ford invented the automobile...the other auto makers began making their own yet they were based on the original.....correct! I think you get my drift!! Chill out guys, this is supposed to be fun! Does this mean someone is going to yell at me if I start making plugs of my own and post their pictures???? Can't we all just......plug along!!!

NIB 12-03-2003 08:37 AM

Salty that was funny.... Imitation is the greatest form of flattery. It happens all the time in fly tyin someone adds some herl to the top of a design an slaps there name on it. it's still just buctail an feathers. It's good to see everyone is a plug builder/seller these days.I would like to see some competitive pricing.

NIB 12-03-2003 08:40 AM

Don't call me Frances.... By the way sweet plugs good luck in ur endevors. now send me some lips. an plugs so I can copie them.:laughs:

NIB 12-03-2003 09:05 AM

Sorry bout that Salty I'm a jackass. ... oh well.....what does sellin to the walls mean.

JohnR 12-03-2003 09:47 AM

OK - I've ben pretty busy and have not had the chance to follow up on this thread. What it does look like to me is free advertising, semi cleverly done free advertising. Sending PMs to people stating that you are not selling plugs but followed up with websites and phone numbers IS advertising and IS SPAM. And frankly, its not fair to the sponsors and people that help out here.

As for the plug, I think I saw these a couple months back in Rhody where several of us fishing a night tide with one fish watched as a first timer to this spot pulls a 20#er out using a blue one.

But this is still semi-spam. The thread title "new to lure making"? Come on - maybe new to mass production / Interent advertising.

I'm about ready to pull the whole plug on your thread pending your response.

my husband only came here for information on lure building..and to make friends..but i can say i dont see this happening...

sfrances, I am a member of the Berkeley Striper Club. It is showing up for no other reason in my posts other than it is in my signature allowed by many message boards to show individuality. It is in my signature on every message board I go onto and is in every post I make. I want to make it 100% clear that my opinions of your plugs has nothing "officially" to do with the Berkeley Striper Club of Seaside Park, NJ in any way, shape or form...

bassmaster 12-03-2003 11:04 AM

STEVE IN MASS 12-03-2003 12:16 PM

Okay, okay, okay.....

First off, I don't know diddly squat about plug building.....I just like to THINK I know how to use them.....:smash:

Anyway, Arby's response here was some of MY doing, as he is a good friend from Jersey that I fish with often, and I know that he knows Big Don and has a bunch of his plugs, so I hinted to him to check out this thread, as I did to another good friend of both his and mine from down there.

Arby is a fabulous guy, and anyone would call him a friend if they met him. He just stated his opinion and thoughts.

As far as Mr. Francis, or whatever your handle is, I too think it was a vieled attempt at spam. Whetehr you copied Don or Hahn's or whoever, or designed it yourself is neither here nor there.

You said you came to learn, and to make friends. Well, sorry, bud, but seeing some of your responses to posts, not to mention the PM you sent to Arby (yeah, I've seen it, Ron forwarded it to me......and to tell ya the truth, if I were Arby, I'd put it up here, or at the very least, forward it to John), you ain't doing a very good job of being cordial.

I said enough....carry on.....

And Bassmaster....watch it, I grew up in Jersey......;) :p :D

Hey BM :rocketem: watch the New Jersey comments. Some of us live here. Send me a plug to make me feel better.:jester:

Arby 12-03-2003 12:40 PM

Like the new Las Vegas commercials on TV (they showing them up there in New England?) "What happens in PM stays in PM"

Yo, BM. (in my best Newark-ese) Yoose guys got White Castle up there? A few Belly Bombers will definately sharpen the tune of your Wendy's and leaves a wafting note unlike no other... :p

Canalman 12-03-2003 12:42 PM

JohnR - Not my call but I say ditch this guy. He seems to need some psycho-analysis.

Salty, BM, and other makers of original works - Beware... I can see right through this guy.... he's looking for original works to add his name to....

Sfrances - You are not the only guy who sells plugs. There are lots of guys on here who are not sponsors of the site that sell their plugs and you will never hear so much as a peep from them about their plugs being for sale. I think would be wise for you to fade away to avoid the embarassment of being removed. You have succeeded in offending most of us that have read this thread and in doing so you have directly insulted John. I think it's safe to say that everyone on this site that has met John thinks he's a hell of a guy. He keeps this site alive even in the absence of a job. So in short, what I'm saying is that when you insult him, you're basically insulting everyone that uses this site and follows the rules.

Hi Arby. :bshake:

JohnR 12-03-2003 12:53 PM

Guys - I want to give Frances (nobody calls me Frances :laughs: ) the benefit of the doubt here and a chance to make things right, by making things right I mean a chance to participate in the forum. If he's trying to just spam, that will come out in the wash. If he wants to participate and not promote his lures, that would be good. It all comes out in the wash.

I just sent him a mildly conditional olive branch in the chance that this is a thread that spiraled badly instead of open spam. How he responds will be up to him. But if he responds openly and honestly and wants to be a member of our little community I think that might be good for all (including BM - cause this guy is from PA and not Jersey :laughs: ). Here is a little bit of my response to his PM - it doesn't include the spam sctuff:

I welcome you to remain as a member and to share knowledge, some fun, and maybe even pickup a thing or two. I welcome someone that has something to contribute and I think you have a lot of knowledge. But in fairness to the people that help keep the lights on, I really can't allow any shameless plugs to push merchandise. If what you want to do is to move merch and get free advertising across the net, its not welcome here. If you want to be a member and particiapte in the forums and maybe even enjoy it a bit , I encourage you and the Mrs to stick around. We DO haver a great bunch here, some awesome knowledge, fantastic talent, some fun, and some 'tude :wall: but you are welcome to come aboard with those guidelines. So this is not a product knock. Just trying to see if we can get on the same page...

Ball is in his court. he may have ben honest and things fell apart. If that's the case I think he should still be welcomed and we can get by this. If he truly wants to spamn, thats just not possible ...

For everyone relatively new - if you want to have a laugh and get a little history of spamming on S-B, check these threads on Penetrator Lures:
