Good unit I fished with one of my customers out of padanaram last fall late night coming back from Cuttyhunk we followed it from can to can it was great, alarm would sound as we came up on the markers. Thats how I got the 128 it was his and he upgraded to 180.

TheSpecialist 01-18-2002 02:29 PM

I got the Garmin GPSMAP76 this year. It is WAAS ready and has navaids built in. It will also give you sun, moon , and tide data. It is a pretty smart little unit.

GBOUTDOORS 01-19-2002 10:35 AM

All who can make it will get a small cuttyhunk bag from the corner store on cuttyhunk and we will have some hats and mugs to give away for maybe most fish caught and smallest.

GBOUTDOORS 01-19-2002 04:43 PM

GBOUTDOORS 01-19-2002 04:50 PM

Sweet Hats! :btu:

GB - We should talk in the near future (within the next month) and hammer out some of the details. You are doing an incredibly nice thing for everyone here and I want to make sure you don't unnecessarily overextend yourself. Because you are doing so much already to make this happen, I propose that everyone kicks in a small amount so we can bring some food over, have a fish pool which will pay for biggest & smallest ;) , as well as the other things we come up with along the way....

I'm also wondering if it might be adviseable to push back a week or two for everyone to hit the Island at the BEST possible time :btu:

And again, I think I can speak for everyone when I say how thankful we are that your putting us up like that - Big Thumbs Up!!

chris L 01-19-2002 05:24 PM

;) dont forget me ! As long as I am not on call that weekend !

GBOUTDOORS 01-19-2002 05:34 PM

John if it will not get in the way of the RI leg of the S-B C+R derby we can have it any weekend in June. That will give me more time to go out and find all the big ones before the derby.;) ;) ;)

Slipknot 01-19-2002 05:37 PM

You won't have far to go to find them GB. :)

The hunk,the hunk,the,hunk
There's nothing like the hunk
Ra ra ra......

ya, what John said:D:happy:

GB -

On top of an already kind and very generous offer, the hats take the cake.

I've been looking for a new lucky hat - my standby is now 6 or 7 years old - I could see myself wearin' a Cuttyhunk hat til it turns into dust...

John and GB - If you guys need a hand in any way to help things along or organize, let me know, I'd be happy to help. We've got a good crew here and it would be the kind of trip that would be a lot of fun and generate more than a few good stories - no doubt! :laughs:

I'll DEFINITELY pack a camera for this one...

Just one request...puhleeeease don't make it the weekend of June 29th....

Crafty Angler 01-20-2002 10:01 AM

Heh heh heh - the Alliance goes amphibious...

chris L 01-20-2002 11:48 AM

I dont mix alchol with fishing !

Im with John If we all kick in a few dollars each we can off set costs and help pay for the gas .

Im game .

And John have you figured out around when the S-B 4 legs will run . Try for new moon weekends !

Crafty Angler 01-20-2002 01:06 PM

I'm with you, Chris -

A good nite of fishing for me is as likely to be followed by a cold Pepsi as a cold beer - AFTER I've returned home to put away my gear.

As for drinking and fishing... never. It doesn't mix well with navigating rocks and swells in the dark. A friend of mine was formerly an accident investigator for the RI DEM - none of the stories are pretty and most of them involved alcohol.

Not that I've turned into a teetotaler in my old age - but there's a time and a place as far as I'm concerned.

I think everyone here will be focused on the fishing aspect. And everyone I would think expects to help offset expenses and give a hand where needed.

Besides, we've still got some winter to go and the planning will help pass a few more of the snowy nights we have left.

GBOUTDOORS 01-20-2002 04:37 PM

Ok Chris L your name is added to the list. John I will pm you my cell number and we can talk next week some time. Crafty I will pm it to you also call me any time if I do not answer try again as this is my work cell and is busy but you will get threw. This is shaping up to be a great time can't wait.

Great looking Hunk bag!!!!

JohnR 01-21-2002 10:30 AM

The full moon is on June 10 so the best weekends for Cutty and the SB Rhody Leg would be the weekends before & after the 10th of June ;) ....

Nice Mugs

Slipknot 01-21-2002 11:08 AM

The 15th tides look good to me!

TheSpecialist 01-21-2002 11:57 AM

I have a wediing on June 2 WOuld I be able to get off the island early on sunday morning? If not I guess I will have to miss the wedding. :D

GBOUTDOORS 01-21-2002 03:57 PM

Ok I thought the 15th looked the best also. John what do you think? Maybe the S-B Cuttyhunk derby should be on the 15th to the 16th. Canalratt I will bring the deer burgers and steaks and the grill if you will leave the deer alone. Also some wild boar chops. If anyone wants anything other than deer or boar just bring it or we can set it up to have some regular burgers and hot dogs to do on the grill. John I am making up some maps of the south shore and will have them laminated so every one will know where they are and some good spots to fish.

TheSpecialist 01-21-2002 05:29 PM

AH JOhn I vote GB to be logostics Man on all tournies. Laminated maps :) You are too good to us. Make sure your mark all lunker spots, and in return I will keep Canalratt away from the deer. I may even bring some venison out if I have any left.:D

AnthonyN 01-22-2002 01:43 AM

After some discussion with my wife and some help convincing from a friend my wife allowed me to go. She was nervous about me meeting up with a bunch of guys on the internet. But in the end she agreed to let me go!!!!!!

So please count me in too!!!!!!

I thought i would never get a chance to fish there time won't pass soon enough!   :D

GBOUTDOORS 01-22-2002 07:20 AM

Alright AnthonyN your on the list. My wife said the same thing but after meeting John R and Tattoo,Crafty,Milo,Bloocrab,Fish Eye at the East Bay show I knew this gang was harmless. And we will be going to Cuttyhunk to FISH, its a dry island so you can not buy any alcohol on the island. I'm not sure but they look to be harmless to the fish too:jester:

Got Stripers 01-22-2002 09:46 AM

Anthony it's not the majority you have to be careful about, it's that BM guy, because he wants to make lovers out of the key people he meets and GB might now be on the top of his hit list :).

GBOUTDOORS 01-22-2002 12:07 PM

Hey Bloo it would be great to have some chourico. I am making a list of what everyone wants to bring and will be sure that we don,t starve. Specialist the maps are done and I did mark all the spots I did best at 20 or so years ago.

Hey, GB, are any of those spots good for guys ...uhhh ...on the north side of the half-century mark :D?

I ain't necessarily lookin' for grandma spots, just wondering.

GBOUTDOORS 01-23-2002 04:14 PM

Crafty I can put you on fish just off the road and on the beach. But don't worry I will work on something for us with my old friend Donna Veeder. I have a bad back and can't do the cliff thing like I use to and Donna has a nice Johndeer rig on the island and we go wayyyyyyy back as friends and family. I can also talk to Asa the harbor master about getting a lift around he is the caretaker for the house.

Honey, I want You 2 at night....
You know You want it Baby....

Crafty Angler 01-23-2002 04:42 PM

Thanks, GB -

I'm definitely not the lazy type, most of my favorite spots require a walk and a good bit of scrambling - I'll wear out the boots on a pair of waders long before the seat of the pants and usually live in my korkers and fish rocks 98% of the time anyway.

Just haven't been there and was curious about the layout - I did read Charlie Soares article about it though.

But I know what you mean about the back - I have to be careful myself - if it goes, it's nobody's idea of fun, I can tell ya.

GBOUTDOORS 01-23-2002 07:18 PM

CRAFTY THE SHORE IS GREAT FOR FISHING AROUND MOST OF THE ISLAND BUT NOT TO GOOD FOR WALKING AND THE FEW ROADS THERE ARE WELL THEY GO UP HILL BOTH WAYS IF YOU KNOW WHAT I AM SAYING. BUT WE WILL HAVE 24 HOURS TO GET ALL THE WAY AROUND IT. THE ROAD GOING TO THE WEST END IS OK TO WALK ON BUT ONCE YOU GO DOWN TO THE SHORE ITS TOUGH TO GET BACK UP THE CLIFFS. BUT THAT WHOLE SHORE IS GREAT SO YOU SHOULD FISH IT ALL THE WAY TO THE WEST END AND THEN GO BACK ON TO THE ROAD AS IT COMES DOWN TO THE WATER THERE.
