nice big cabin w/ a flush head. full glass all arround, hardtop. gotta fish all year in any weather. this would make a kickass center console. i watched a 420hp volvo tamd go for 800 bucks on ebay last night. that would be sweet, just a little too heavy i think. |
Man o man , all I can say is you are an ambitious and hardworking guy. That is a LOT of work, but if anyone can pull this project off by the Spring ? :musc: , you can.
|
Looking good, very good :claps:

Nice clean start! Be sure to mark holes from engine mounts somewhere on hull for reference later, trust me... Should have chimed in earlier, but when we re built a 1957 Beals Island 37', I wished I had referenced everything we took off by weight and location of the weight. When we repowered, the block moved forward, the transom and knees were new, and I raised the coach roof for headroom. All these changes were enough to affect how she floats on her 'new' lines.
You building a plastic shed around her for the winter build? Was always a challenge to get temp up enough to epoxy. I'll be down after the run is done. |

I'm going to be the 1st to hoe a ride on that when it's done ! |
yeah one side at a time like doing brake shoes. i know what you mean.
if i need heet i'll just back her in the shop and hit it with 10,000 btu's of radiant gas heat. deffinitly gunna be different weight placement. maybe big block maybe diesel? i got thousands of pounds of gear and cod jigs i can move arround for ballast. gotts to do some research now on wood. and resin. bummer now is,,, i took her off the trailer today and put it on stands. my bud need his trailer back. so i gotta find a trailer. maybe a piece o junk yard trailer i can move it in and out of the shop for the time bieng.. gotta keep an eye on craigs list for free trailers. |

i am greatly enjoying your progress.
This is an interesting development. keep us posted. Zac |
wow, youve made alot of progress Mike. Ill drop bye the shop one day this week.
|
thats too bad its junk. Diesels are pricey. can you get one out of a junkyard and put it in a boat?
|
i watched a running 420 hp tamd volvo go for 800 bucks on ebay last week :wall: right down the street in r.i. too
that would do me nice.. they put twins in these things so a 420 volvo weight wouldn't matter. i bet the flybrige i'm leaving off weighs as much as the difference.. thats the plan now watch ebay for cheap 350-400 hp. diesels. the fuel saving in one year alone will cover the cost. they didn't winterize this thing right, water was left in the exaust manifolds and it creaped into the head. down the pistons and in into the oil pan :poke: deisel it is :humpty: :boots: |
If you look in the right places you can find one that is coming out of a boat about to be repowered, or has been overhauled. I know 2 years ago Mass Martime had a couple running diesels that went to there aution for short money. If you look around you will find stuff pretty cheap.

Hmm MMA auction is in the next two weeks I believe....

Ehhhh.... the Volvo Pentas aren't that bad, but parts when you need them hurt the wallet something fierce.
|
back on the new,tad small but free, trailer today.
tomorrow we go wood shopping. thatsa big hull. my sloburban 1500 could fit inside no sweat. got keel? http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y25...k/DSC02422.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y25...k/DSC02424.jpg |
Nice Mike. I need to score some free rod holders for my brother's boats...knucklehead doesn't have a one between the TWO!!!!
Would love to see a sketch or drawing of your plans. Use good stuff for cleating up cockpit decking and cabin sole, but do not spend much on the materials that will be serving as those floorboards. That's because they will be trashed after the build and you will want to fit in new after the big jobs, especially power plant install. It is definitely something to plan out as you build the bulkheads with the B grade stock, as I assume you wil be glassing those in. Make any sense to pull trim tabs during build? I know I would be hitting those in the shed more than once! |
I could get you a good price on a new Mercurser...
PM me... I also have a 8 foot bench seat out of a 27' Tiara/Prusuit (spelling) you could have... |
Freak if that trailer is to short, you might be able to flip it and pick up some quick cash here --> http://boston.craigslist.org/bmw/wan/232405558.html

nice, thank you...
i'm on it :cputin: :btu: |

started mocking up some stuff.
gunna add some flair to the bow and raise the cabin up a little bit in the process. i wanted to give the flair a good 3" extra beam amidship ala buddy davis, but there's one major problem with that.. it won't fit out of the garage door after :wall: as it is now i have to grease up the gunnels to get it in. also i won't be able to complete the wheelhouse/hardtop inside as it will be too tall.:read: http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y25...k/DSC02472.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y25...k/DSC02474.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y25...k/DSC02468.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y25...k/DSC02475.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y25...k/DSC02470.jpg |
Mike you sure move fast! Flair looks great. Can you gain any space by cocking it to the side? If not you could get one of the portable garages and set it up sort of attached to the side of the shop??
|
i have about an inch on either side to get it in and out.
i'll do what i can inside over the winter, then look into a portable shed. |
